DOI: 10.2478/RAE-2019-0018 Review of Artistic Education no. 17 2019 171-182 2. IPOSTASES OF THE CHOREOGRAPHIC DIALOGUE 153 Cristina Todi Abstract: The analysis of the aesthetic face of dance brings to our forefront the fascination for the movement on many artists who experienced the movement and, above all, explored the possibilities of kinetic art or movement movement. In its most elevated form, dance contains not only this element but also the infinite richness of human personality. It is the perfect synthesis of the abstract and the human, of mind and intellect with emotion, discipline with spontaneity, spirituality with erotic attraction to which dance aspires; and in dance as a form of communication, it is the most vivid presentation of this fusion act that is the ideal show. Key words: Arts, ballet, dance, dialogue, aesthetic 1. Introduction The Evolution of the Syncretic Dialogue between Choreography, Theatre, Music, Literature and Visual Arts We shall initiate an approach of the discourse regarding the historical evolution of choregraphic dialogue, even from the age when this artistic genre started to assume clear contours, rather from the 17th century. Without excluding the importance of the previous periods in history, the 17th and the 18th centuries are considered to be the starting points of dance for amusement. This was often dedicated to ceremonies or entertainment. In approaching these moments, the increased attention towards the aesthetic expression and the manner in which beauty was intensified, sometimes even at the expense of the real, is notable. Moreover, the technicality under which theatrical ballet was formulated in its demonstrative forms, full of technical charge, although arid in ideas or expression that reach the sensitive cords of the viewer.

  • 13 Russian Ballet in the Age of Petipa Lynn Garafola
13 Russian ballet in the age of Petipa lynn garafola On 24 May 1847 Marius Petipa, a young French-born dancer and ballet master, landed in St Petersburg.1 He was not the first dance artist to brave the long journey to Russia and the rigours of a Russian winter, nor even the only Petipa; only five months later, his own father signed a contract to teach the senior classes at the Imperial Ballet School.2 Like so many other danseurs, Petipa fils was drawn to the “Venice of the North” because of decreasing opportunities for male dancers in the West and the unusually generous terms of an imperial contract, in his case, 10,000 francs a year and “half a benefit” for the position of premier danseur.3 He accepted the offer with alacrity, little imagining that he would remain in Russia until his death in 1910, marry twice there (both times to Russian ballerinas), raise a family and rule the Imperial Ballet from 1869, when he became chief ballet master, to his retirement in 1903. Petipa’s long stewardship of the company had an incalculable effect on Russian ballet. He presided over the shift from romanticism to what is usu- ally termed ballet “classicism”, laid the foundation of the modern Russian school by marrying the new Italian bravura technique to its more lyrical French counterpart and helped transform an art dominated by foreign- ers and identified with the West into a Russian national expression. Petipa choreographed scores of ballets and innumerable dances, codifying their structure while expanding the lexicon of their movements, and created sev- eral generations of distinguished dancers.

  • MARIUS PETIPA and HIS LIFE in BALLET We Know Marius Petipa As the Father of Modern Classical Ballet
Kabannik T. Dragomanov National Pedagogical University Institute of Arts, student Pet’ko L., Ph.D., Associate Professor, Dragomanov National Pedagogical University, Kyiv MARIUS PETIPA AND HIS LIFE IN BALLET We know Marius Petipa as the father of modern Classical Ballet. His career, mostly spent in the Russian Imperial Ballet, that lasted nearly sixty years. Marius Petipa was both a dancer and later a choreographer. He is the best remembered for masterpieces which are still mainstays of ballet such as «The Nutcracker», «Sleeping Beauty», «Swan Lake» and «Don Quixote». His contributions to modern classical ballet have been vast and this is in part due not only to his long career but to his experience with all elements of production. From dancing to designing as well as researching, Marius Petipa was able to revolutionize ballet, especially in Russia where he served as ballet master for the Imperial Ballet. Although the career of Marius Petipa ended without a great deal of fanfare after an unsuccessful production, his legacy remains. While no one will remember that last failed ballet, history will remember his enormous contribution to choreography and dance through the many other pieces he worked. In total, Marius Petipa produced over 50 ballets, reworked over 20 old pieces, and arranged the dancing in over 35 operas [2]. The aim of our article is to investigate theoretical material and to analyze literary works on this theme. To achieve the aim we have defined such tasks: 1. To learn a biography of the famous choreographer M.Petipa. 2. To describe his life in ballet. Choreography is the art of designing sequences of movements in which motion, form, or both are specified.

The two women met when Lloyd was running a dance school in Leeds, England and Farrally was her student. They both immigrated to Canada in 1938, and settled in Winnipeg. There they offered dance classes to the community – starting out with only six students in their first year. Word quickly spread, however, and by year two their enrolment had grown and they were able to establish the “Winnipeg Ballet Club.” By 1943, The Winnipeg Ballet was formed with all of its dancers coming from the Club. Six years later, the Company officially became a not-for-profit cultural institution.
