This frenetic entertainmentis long on shtick and historical hilarity. Itis staged as a backers' audition for an 83.5-million-dollar twelve-hourstage history of the world from creation to the present. Eighteen side-splittingnumbers, performed by two actors, portrayingAdam and Eve, Attila the Hun. the building ofthe pyramids, Julius Caesar andColumbus, among others, give potential investors ataste of the impending extravaganza. In the process, the opulent Park Avenue apartment"borrowed for the occasion is trashed asthe two snatch its furnish- ings to create makeshiftcostumes while singing and clowning their way through inventive recreations of the past, stopping occasionallyfor a little supplicatingshow biz patter. Reverend Oglethorpehas invited them to the BaptistChurch to sing and witness, getting the congregation into the down-homeholiday spiritbefore the boys, includingone of the Sanders' own, are shipped off to World War 11. More than two dozen Christmas carols, many of them vintage hymns, and hilarious yuletide stories from themore or less devout Sanders family keepthe audience laughing, clappingand singing along with bluegrass Christmas favorites. Richly entertain- ing, this wildly infectiousmusical brings cheerto audiences eagerto see how their friends from Smokeon the Mountainhave been getting along. December 11 - 22,2002 Written by Connie Ray Conceived by Alan Bailey Musical Arrangement by John Foley & Gary Fagin Leave A Legacy Planned Giving lnformation Consortium of East Centrallllinois

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to ihe quality of life.

The people of East Central Illinois are known for their generosity. But not many area people leave gifts to charity in their wills or estates. With that in mind, area managers of wealth and non-profit organizations established the Planned Giving Information Consortium (PGIC) of East Central Illinois devoted to educating the general public about philanthropy in general and about planned giving in specific. The Little Theatre On The Square is a member of and supports the efforts of this consortium. have A Legacy - PGlC has embarked on an initiative that will help further its mission to educate the public and promote the cause of charitable giving through bequests, lifetime giving with retention of income, and estate plans. Leave A Legacy's goal is to remind people that they can make a difference in the lives that follow theirs.

Frequently asked questions: How do I leave a gift for my favorite nonprofit organization?

It's easy. You can arrange for a gift several ways. The most common is through a charitablegift in a will or living trust. Many people set asidea certain dollar amount. Others leave a percentage of their estate or any assets left over after their family has been provided for. Some people donate somethingthey own, like a car or their home. Others leave a paid life insurance policy, retirement account or other financial investment.

Do I tell the organization that I have left a gift?

That is up to you. Nonprofd organizationslike to know in advance so they can recognize your generosity. They can also tell you about specific opportunities for giving.

Must I have a sizable estate in order to leave a gift?

Everyone can leave a gift. 'Estate" is simply a word used to describe any amount of money, property or personal belongingsthat you may have at the time of your death. Most people leave an estate when they die, even though they may not have a great deal of wealth. Many gifts are less than $1,000.

How do I leave a gift to a specific organization?

A charitable bequest will not take effect unless you state your intention in your will or living trust. Wdhout a will you may lose control over your belongings after death. Then, your property and finances are settledaccording to state laws, whether or not they coincide with your wishes.

Who can help me arrange for a gift?

If you have a professional that you are working with like a financial planner, lawyer, accountant or insurance agent, please talk with them about leaving a gift. A professional can tell you about the tax benefds of planned gifts. You can also call a nonprofit organizationdirectly for assistance. The architecturalfirm of Hance, Utz & Associates of Mattoon, Illinois has presented us with this architect's drawingof the pr oposed new building that will contain our ticket ofice, administrative offices, concession stand and new dressing roomsfor the peqormance This drawing also shows the treatment to the front of the theatre that will tie the two buildings together We will begin fund- raising for this project soon and hope that you will join us in seeing the completion of this aciting nat step for The Little Theatre On The Square.

Comments From tlze Artistic Director

At the end of last season, one of our subscribers wroteme to thank The Little Theatre for "taking us to places he and his wife could never travel to." Such is the magic of live theatre. It transports us to new and exciting places, introduces us to whole new worlds of people; and, if we let it, opens our minds and hearts to new ideas.

1 This season is aperfect example. First,we visit Victoria Grant, a"woman playing a man playing a woman" in Victor Victoria's "Jazz Hot" Paris of the 1930's. Then, "time- travel" one decade to the romantic islands as a southern nurse must con- quer her own racism to find love during World War 11.

The vibrant stage adaptationof one of MGM's most popular movie musicals, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a delighthl battle of the sexes in the Washington mountains in the 1890's. Then travel to Beaumont, Texas, as Chicagoan Ren getsthe whole town dancing to the '80's pop hits of Footloose.

One more stop... travel to in late 1800's as the demonic Mr. Hyde destroys his alter ego Dr. Jekyll in the passionate musical taleJekyll and Hyde.

So, we're off for another exciting seasonof travel as The Little Theatre transports youto five new worlds in our 2002 season.

Open your minds and hearts! All Aboard!

HONORARYPATRONS: Julie Andrews Linda Rodgers Mary Rodgers

Leonard Anderson Little Theatre on the Square PO Box 288 Sullivan, IL 6 195 1

Greetings, everyone!

I want to congratulate you and thank you for participating inthe Centennial.

My father, Richard Rodgers, adored musical theatre. He loved to tell good stories, and he especially loved the way they could be told in musical theatre -- through a potent combination of music, lyrics, dialogueand dance.

He also loved the collaborative spirit thatbrought all these elementstogether. No matter how tough the problem, he relished solving it as long as a stalwart friend like LarryHart or Oscar Hammerstein was at his side. As a matter of fact, he was muchhappier collaborating with othersthan on those rare occasions when he wrote a song, or a musical, by himself; it just wasn't anyfun for him unless he had a comrade inarms.

But for my father, the ultimate collaborationwas between the people doing the show, and the people they were doingit for.

There will be many tributes and honors forRichard Rodgers during his Centennial season, but I know nothing would havemeant more to him than this performance, right here, right now. By appearing in one of his shows, or by seeing one, you are giving my father the greatest 100th birthday present he could have imagined.
