LA CAGE AUX FOLLES Audition Notice Winner of 11 Tony Awards and one of Broadway's biggest hits, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is a musical-comedy classic featuring a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. In April 2017, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES will be gloriously revived by W!LD RICE, the company that brought you such hits as Boeing Boeing, Beauty World and The Importance of Being Earnest. With a star-studded cast, a chorus line of notorious and sexy Cagelles, as well as a magnificent score of memorable heart-warming songs including I Am What I Am and The Best of Times, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is a touching tale of one family’s struggle to stay together, stay fabulous and, above all else, stay true to themselves! We are currently casting for the role of ANNE as well as two female ensemble members. You have to be available during: Rehearsals: 6 March 2017 – 8 April 2017 Bump-In: 9 – 13 April 2017 Show: 13 April 2017 – 13 May 2017 Auditionees are required to act, sing and dance and play a character in her early to mid twenties. If you can commit to the schedule above, you may send us a video link (wetransfer, YouTube etc) of the following: • A monologue (2 minutes long) • A song of your choice • A short dance routine All interested candidates should submit a performance résumé, headshot and full- body shot (taken within the last 3 months) to [email protected] by Friday, 18 March 2016. Shortlisted candidates will be required to come for an audition on 10 April 2016, Sunday (10am – 6pm) at 33 Kerbau Road, Singapore 219166 (off Serangoon Road, nearest MRT station: Little India, exit E). Male dancers who can sing, dance and act are also invited to send in their CVs – all interested dancers must be proficient in jazz and tap dance and should be at least 1.8m in height. .

I examine how song and dance – sites of aesthetic difference within the musical – can warp time and enable marginalized and semi-marginalized fans to imagine different ways of being in the world. Musical numbers can complicate a linear, developmental plot by accelerating and decelerating time, foregrounding repetition and circularity, bringing the past to life and projecting into the future, and physicalizing dreams in a narratively open present. These excesses have the potential to contest naturalized constructions of historical, progressive time, as well as concordant constructions of gender, sexual, and racial identities. While the musical has historically been a rich source of identification for the stereotypical white gay male show queen, this project validates a broad and flexible range of non-normative readings.

While the combined strength of the city’s creative sector may not trump the impact of the financial services sector, it isn’t far off. The city’s creative economy consists of 12,066 businesses and non- profits (5.8 percent of all employers in the five bor- oughs) and provides employment to 309,142 peo- ple (8.1 percent of all city workers). In recent years, the sector has added jobs at a considerably faster rate than the overall city economy: between 1998 and 2002, employment in New York’s creative core grew by 13.1 percent (adding 32,000 jobs) while the city’s overall job totals increased by 6.5 percent during this period. Among the city’s nearly unparalleled concentra- tion of creative core enterprises, New York has more than 2,000 arts and cultural non-profits and over 500 art galleries, roughly 2,300 design services businesses, more than 1,100 advertising-related firms, nearly 700 book and magazine publishers, and 145 film production studios and stages. Glamor and farce in Hello, Dolly!, from Wilder to Kelly Julie Vatain-Corfdir & Émilie Rault When Hello, Dolly! opened on Broadway in January 1964, immediately to be hailed as “a musical shot through with enchantment,”1 New York audiences were by no means greeting Dolly for the first time. Through a process of recycling which probably owed as much to the potential of the original story as it did to a logic of commercial security, the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi – the meddling matchmaker who sorts out everyone’s love lives and contrives to marry her biggest client herself – had been prosperous on stage and screen for the previous ten years, and would continue to attract audiences to this day.2 Not unlike My Fair Lady, which previously held the record for longest-running Broadway musical, Hello, Dolly! trod on the “surer road to success,”3 with a book based on a popular play by an acclaimed playwright – Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker –, and one which had already been famously adapted to the screen with a cast starring, among others, Shirley Booth and Shirley MacLane.

It's the old melodrama "You must pay the rent" but as five mini-musicals parodying and paying homage to American and British musical theater legends: Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Kander and Ebb. Be prepared to hear some things that sound very familiar, but in a whole new way. The show is directed by Randy Barth and produced by Andy Negri, and features Dave Buckingham, Betsy Edwards, Katrina Jackson, Christa Kronser, Mike Marshall, Don Mitchell, Marie Nearing, Kathy Nieman, Shawn Perry, Melanie Pino-Elliott, Rachel Pino-Elliott, and Jack Scheer, with Dave Larko at the keyboard. Performances are February 13-28: Fridays and Saturdays at 8, Sundays at 2. Doors open 30 minutes before the show.
