Join us during the “White Nights " in when Vasily Petrenko will conduct Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the historic Mikhailovsky Theatre. We will return to the Mikhailovsky for a performance of Prokofiev's Romeo et Juliet and also attend a performance by the Mariinsky Orchestra (performance details to be confirmed).

The White Nights are the evenings, running from May to the end of July, when the city emerges from long months of cold and darkness and celebrates the brief return of near round-the-clock daylight. ’s cultural capital — situated just five degrees south of the Arctic Circle, at the eastern end of the Gulf of Finland — has been welcoming the summer with relief and celebration ever since Peter the Great founded the city in the early 18th century.

During our stay we have included sightseeing to all the major sights of the city including St Isaacs Cathedral , the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood , the Peter & Paul Fortress and, of course, the Hermitage . Outside of the city we will also visit the Palace of Catherine the Great at Pushkin and the magnificently restored Grand Palace at Peterhof .

The Mikhailovsky Theatre (also known over the years variously as the Maly Theatre and Moussorgsky Theatre) is situated on Arts Square with the Russian Museum and Great Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonic as neighbours. We have secured top price seats for two performances from their extensive repertoire, Tchaikovky's lyric opera Eugene Onegin and Prokofiev's masterful score for the ballet Romeo & Juliet .

We will stay five nights at the excellent Marriott Courtyard Pushkin located on the Griboedova Canal and very close to the Mariinsky Theatre and Concert Hall (where we also hope to include a performance).

The hotel is situated in a good area of the city to the west of the downtown area and it's important to mention why we have chosen it (as you may read reviews saying it's not central). The Courtyard a modern well appointed hotel with all the facilities tha t you would expect from a 4* hotel. It has an excellent breakfast buffet and a very good 'German pub' serving good quality, well priced, food & drink until late evening. The hotel is less than 500 metres from St Nicholas Naval Cathedral , 10 - 15 minutes wa lk to the Mariinsky , 3km from the Admirality and Hermitage and around 4km from the mid point of Nevsky Prospekt (the main shopping 'drag' of the city).

As all of your sightseeing is included you need not worry about transportation. If you do decid e to venture out on your own it's actually a nice stroll along the banks of the Griboedova Canal all the way to Nevsky Prospekt and the hotel has it's own inexpensive car service to take you further afield.
