About Natalia Kremen Ballet Foundation (NK Foundation)

In 2015, Natalia Kremen made the first step towards the fulfilment of her dream: to create and grow a charitable foundation that will inspire, en- courage and support children in discovering and excelling at classical ballet by providing a range of scholarships and bursaries.

NK Foundation's primary social and public objectives lie in the areas of education, health and the community. Whilst direct beneficiaries of the NK Foundation's efforts are children and young people who live in the UK and have shown potential for pursuing ballet as a career, the important objec- tive of our inspirational project is not limited to providing opportunities for talented students. We also strive to raise cultural and healthy lifestyle awareness amongst all children and adults alike. Through the prism of classical ballet, one of the most graceful and artistic forms of dance, we are determined to support equal opportunities and access to this art form in the UK and beyond.

Scholarships and Bursaries NK Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides financial support to ballet students of exceptional talent but limited means. Talent, past performance and financial background are taken into consideration as criteria for scholarship/bursary eligibility assessment. NK Foundation aims to create an environment conducive to the devel- opment of young talent.

The principal goals of NK Foundation activities are: • to assist children and young people with a talent for classical ballet and dance in their technical, artistic and creative development in the UK and abroad; • to preserve and develop cultural values and traditions of classical ballet, including through providing financial sup- port to students with a potential for excelling in this art form.

Our scholarships and bursaries give students a chance to attend ballet classes as well as to perform in stage productions, participate in examina- tions, attend numerous ballet events organised by Natalia Kremen Ballet School (NKBS) and cover expenses for ballet uniforms and equipment.

The School opened in 2012, with only three students and with the sole purpose of bringing the method to students based in the South Kensington and Chelsea areas of London. Within three months of its opening, the school had grown to 30 students. Today the school has 150 students. Our class group sizes are intentionally small and we focus on personal attention and an individual approach to each student. We believe that any child can benefit from our classes and enjoy dancing, regardless of natural ability and socioeconomic background. The school offers a wide range of classes, examinations and performance opportuni- ties to students age 3-16, based on the famous Vaganova syllabus.

The Vaganova method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Russian dancer and pedagogue Agripina Vaganova. It fuses elements of traditional French style from the romantic era with the athleticism and virtuosity of Italian technique. This notable and progressive training programme has produced some of the best dancers in the world, including Anna Pavlova, , , Mikhail Barysh- nikov, Diana Vishneva, Uliana Lopatkina, Svetlana Zakharova, and professional dancers in almost every company worldwide. Our teachers are all former ballet dancers from leading ballet companies: Bolshoi Theatre, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert, Stanislavsky Theatre and . The biggest recognition of our school to date was the invitation for our students to perform with the Bolshoi and companies on the stage of the Royal House in 2014 and 2016. Students also attend galas and have the opportunity to meet and take masterclasses with leading dancers and teachers such as Diana Vishneva, Natalia Osipova, Lauren Cuthbertson, Isabella Ciaravola, Vadim Muntagirov, Andrey Klemm, and Tamara Rojo. Each year students participate in a professional standard end of year performance where they share the stage with ballet stars of today. Our school was the winner of the Stars of Albion International competition. NKBS student Isabelle Raphael won the top prize at the prestigious Lario Danza Ballet Competition in Italy.
