About Natalia Kremen Ballet Foundation (NK Foundation) In 2015, Natalia Kremen made the first step towards the fulfilment of her dream: to create and grow a charitable foundation that will inspire, en- courage and support children in discovering and excelling at classical ballet by providing a range of scholarships and bursaries. NK Foundation's primary social and public objectives lie in the areas of education, health and the community. Whilst direct beneficiaries of the NK Foundation's efforts are children and young people who live in the UK and have shown potential for pursuing ballet as a career, the important objec- tive of our inspirational project is not limited to providing opportunities for talented students. We also strive to raise cultural and healthy lifestyle awareness amongst all children and adults alike. Through the prism of classical ballet, one of the most graceful and artistic forms of dance, we are determined to support equal opportunities and access to this art form in the UK and beyond. Scholarships and Bursaries NK Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides financial support to ballet students of exceptional talent but limited means. Talent, past performance and financial background are taken into consideration as criteria for scholarship/bursary eligibility assessment. NK Foundation aims to create an environment conducive to the devel- opment of young talent. The principal goals of NK Foundation activities are: • to assist children and young people with a talent for classical ballet and dance in their technical, artistic and creative development in the UK and abroad; • to preserve and develop cultural values and traditions of classical ballet, including through providing financial sup- port to students with a potential for excelling in this art form. Our scholarships and bursaries give students a chance to attend ballet classes as well as to perform in stage productions, participate in examina- tions, attend numerous ballet events organised by Natalia Kremen Ballet School (NKBS) and cover expenses for ballet uniforms and equipment. Page 3 of 10 ! About Natalia Kremen Ballet School (NKBS) The School opened in 2012, with only three students and with the sole purpose of bringing the Russian Ballet method to students based in the South Kensington and Chelsea areas of London. Within three months of its opening, the school had grown to 30 students. Today the school has 150 students. Our class group sizes are intentionally small and we focus on personal attention and an individual approach to each student. We believe that any child can benefit from our classes and enjoy dancing, regardless of natural ability and socioeconomic background. The school offers a wide range of classes, examinations and performance opportuni- ties to students age 3-16, based on the famous Vaganova syllabus. The Vaganova method is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Russian dancer and pedagogue Agripina Vaganova. It fuses elements of traditional French style from the romantic era with the athleticism and virtuosity of Italian technique. This notable and progressive training programme has produced some of the best dancers in the world, including Anna Pavlova, Natalia Makarova, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Barysh- nikov, Diana Vishneva, Uliana Lopatkina, Svetlana Zakharova, Natalia Osipova and professional dancers in almost every company worldwide. Our teachers are all former ballet dancers from leading ballet companies: Bolshoi Theatre, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Rambert, Moscow Stanislavsky Theatre and Mikhailovsky Theatre. The biggest recognition of our school to date was the invitation for our students to perform with the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Ballet companies on the stage of the Royal Opera House in 2014 and 2016. Students also attend galas and have the opportunity to meet and take masterclasses with leading dancers and teachers such as Diana Vishneva, Natalia Osipova, Lauren Cuthbertson, Isabella Ciaravola, Vadim Muntagirov, Andrey Klemm, and Tamara Rojo. Each year students participate in a professional standard end of year performance where they share the stage with ballet stars of today. Our school was the winner of the Stars of Albion International competition. NKBS student Isabelle Raphael won the top prize at the prestigious Lario Danza Ballet Competition in Italy. Page 4 of 10 ! About Natalia Kremen Natalia Kremen, a renowned ballet dancer and an actress, started her ballet journey at the Bolshoi Academy Mos- cow at the age of 9. Studying with the greatest ballet masters of the Soviet Area (Lavrovsky, Sorokina, Vladimirov, Krapivina and others) she was invited to join The Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow after graduating. From the very beginning of her career she performed solo roles in ballets such as Giselle, Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, The Nutcracker and many others. In 2006 she received an invitation from Wayne Eagling to join the English National Ballet in London. Natalia was also invited to perform, as a guest artist at numerous ballet Gala Concerts, on some of the greatest stages in the world. These galas were a great opportunity for Natalia to broaden her repertoire and share the stage with such dancers as Tamara Rojo, Alina Cojocaru, Marianela Nuñez, Svetlana Zakharova, Sylvie Guillem, Carlos Acosta, Daniil Simkin, and many others. The highlights of Natalia’s appearances are: performances at the O2 Arena (Princess Diana Memorial Concert), Buckingham Palace (Her Majesty The Queen and Prince Philip hosted a reception there), a standing ovation after Natalia’s performance at the breathtaking open- air Herod Atticus Theatre in Greece, and a performance of Swan Lake in Versailles Palace on a stage built over the lake. Alongside her ballet career Natalia took part in different modelling projects, photoshoots and filming. She was a face for the Grishko Company, and performed and presented the Swan Lake jewellery collection at the De Beers London boutique on Bond Street. In 2006 Natalia expanded her acting repertoire by playing the greatest Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, in the famous TV series Mr Selfridge. Page 5 of 10 ! Feb 2017 THE PRIMA BALLERINAS OF THE KIROV Диана Вишнёва DIANA VISHNEVA C A T A L O G U E PHILIPPE JORDAN France 1962 The Wandering Banker, Moscow. To survive in the harsh reality of Moscow, the financier Philippe Jordan spends his evenings drawing Indians, creating ballerinas, and meeting oligarchs. And it helps! Philippe is quite an unconventional banker. During working hours he is deals with derivatives, futures and options, but in his private time he makes paintings on glass, and art from paper. “It seemed to me that there was always some magic at the Ballet: the music played, the notes came alive, the ballerinas flew in the air” Philippe was born in Strasbourg, and his stepfather, Robert Grossmann, not only was the vice- mayor of the town of Strasbourg, but also a long-term associate of Nicolas Sarkozy – “the man who thirty years ago taught the future French president the art of public speaking.” The former president of France also has one of Jordan’s works: a courier delivered it, and after a few days, Philippe received a letter of thanks. Unconventional by nature, again in 2010, Philippe invited his friend in Moscow, the French author Michel Houellebecq, who once compared Philippe’s works to those of Giorgio de Chirico. The story of their friendship is downright amazing. After reading the novel "The Map and the Territory," Jordan was shocked - the book’s main character was so much like him. He, like Jordan, met with Abramovich. And also painted a portrait of Houellebecq.

DIVERSITY EN POINTE: MINIMIZING DISCRIMINATORY HIRING PRACTICES TO INCREASE BALLET’S CULTURAL RELEVANCE IN AMERICA Nicolle Mitchell Greenhood Major paper submitted to the faculty of Goucher College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in Arts Administration 2016 Abstract Title of Thesis: DIVERSITY EN POINTE: MINIMIZING DISCRIMINATORY HIRING PRACTICES TO INCREASE BALLET’S CULTURAL RELEVANCE IN AMERICA Degree Candidate: Nicolle Mitchell Greenhood Degree and Year: Master of Arts in Arts Administration, 2016 Major Paper Directed by: Michael Crowley, M.A. Welsh Center for Graduate and Professional Studies Goucher College Ballet was established as a performing art form in fifteenth century French and Italian courts. Current American ballet stems from the vision of choreographer George Balanchine, who set ballet standards through his educational institution, School of American Ballet, and dance company, New York City Ballet. These organizations are currently the largest-budget performing company and training facility in the United States, and, along with other major US ballet companies, have adopted Balanchine’s preference for ultra thin, light skinned, young, heteronormative dancers. Due to their financial stability and power, these dance companies set the standard for ballet in America, making it difficult for dancers who do not fit these narrow characteristics to succeed and thrive in the field. The ballet field must adapt to an increasingly diverse society while upholding artistic integrity to the art form’s values. Those who live in America make up a heterogeneous community with a blend of worldwide cultures, but ballet has been slow to focus on diversity in company rosters.

3 JUNE 2014 THE ROYAL BALLET TOURS TO MOSCOW, TAIPEI AND SHANGHAI The Royal Ballet Tour - Moscow 17 – 22 June / Taipei 27 – 29 June / Shanghai 3 – 5 July This summer The Royal Ballet will tour to Moscow, Taipei and Shanghai for the annual international tour. The Royal Ballet is delighted to return to Moscow, its first visit since 2003, where it will be part of the UK-Russia Year of Culture celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of both countries. As part of the celebrations The Royal Ballet will perform in The Bolshoi Theatre between 17 – 22 June, presenting a Triple Bill of Tetractys by Wayne McGregor, Rhapsody by Frederick Ashton and DGV: Danse à grande vitesse by Christopher Wheeldon. The Royal Ballet will also perform Manon by Kenneth MacMillan, one of the signature works from the Company’s repertory. Tetractys, an exhilarating fusion of baroque music and contemporary dance, received its UK premiere in February and is Wayne McGregor’s latest work for The Royal Ballet. Rhapsody was created in 1980 by Frederick Ashton for the 80th birthday of HM The Queen Mother. It is a celebratory showpiece, set to sweeping music by Sergey Rachmaninoff, and pays tribute to virtuoso dance. Christopher Wheeldon's award-winning DGV: Danse à grande vitesse is a high- octane finale, set to Michael Nyman’s score, MGV (Musique à Grande Vitesse), which was composed to commemorate the 1993 inauguration by the north European line of the French train TGV. Manon, Kenneth MacMillan’s acclaimed tragic ballet is a modern masterpiece telling the story of Manon Lescaut, a young woman longing for love who is corrupted by wealth and luxury in 18th century Paris.
