PRESS RELEASE No. 445/2015 Date: 24th June 2015 Budget Speech 2015 - The Hon Samantha Sacramento MP - Minister for Tourism, Equality, Social Services and Housing Mr Speaker, This has been my first Parliament. It is quite amazing how time flies and that this is my last budget address of this parliament, making it important to pause for a moment and reflect on all that has been achieved for our community by this Government. SOCIAL SERVICES Of all the departments I am responsible for, nowhere is the change as apparent or as rewarding in my view as the tremendous progress that has been made in social services in such short period of time. Ministry of Tourism, Equality, Social Services and Housing, HM Government of Gibraltar • 14 Governor ’s Parade • Gibraltar GX11 1AA t +350 20066482 f +350 20042509 (Centrex 2368) e [email protected] w gibraltar.gov.gi We have gone from a haphazard disjointed service, that, by the very nature of its disorganisation, failed to support and reach out to people as it should, to one that is now a far cry from that. The priority has been to reorganise and restructure in a way that has best worked for the service and the service continues a process of self-assessment and review as needs and priorities change. To say that in the history of social services it is the first time ever that there is a full complement of staff is an achievement in itself, but this Government has not stopped there and we have invested in increasing the number of social workers and support staff.

• 1 Impressions from the Rock of Gibraltar
IMPRESSIONS FROM THE ROCK OF GIBRALTAR: THE JOURNAL OF A TRAVELLING TEACHER (AUGUST 29-DECEMBER 3, 2009) J.A. McLean 2010 Good to Go: August 20, 2009 Within only nine days left before departure, things have fallen into place for Gibraltar. Janet Waterfield, a kind friend of English Bahá’í, Ann Dymond, informed me by telephone that she has a flat available to rent at 503 Neptune House, Marina Bay. The good news is that the flat is available for the whole three months duration of my stay. Janet recently made the acquaintance of senior believer, Ann, who was the first Bahá’í who came to Gibraltar in Holy Year 1992, the centenary of Bahá’u’lláh’s ascension. I have never been to that small, densely populated (7 square kilometres) overseas territory of Great Britain, but I understand that Marina Bay is a fine, central location. Sam Benoit, a recent university graduate and son of old friends, Wendy James and Bernard Benoit, is going to sublet my furnished apartment. This will be a great help since I won’t have to carry two rents at the same time Any pioneer or travel-teacher should not forget that serving the Faith, although it brings confirmations and rewards, can also bring tests and difficulties. They are a built-in component of service. I suppose that if Bahá’u’lláh did not find that His believers had the capacity for spiritual growth and service, He would not put us to the test at all. But as ‘Abdu’l-Bahá has written, these tests prove to be either stumbling-blocks or stepping-stones, just as we make them.
