10 Outdoor Evening Volleyball - Grades 6-12 Director of Summer Programs: Karin Epstein 10-11 LEAP Course Offerings Karin Epstein was appointed the Director of Summer Programs in January, 2012. Prior to being named Director, Mrs. Epstein taught a variety of grade levels at The Albany Academy Lower School since 1994. In addition, since 1992 Mrs. Epstein has held a variety of camp positions including LEAP Camp Director and teacher. Mrs. Epstein has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Oneonta. Little Leapers

Little Leapers Directors: Kathy Polubinski and Lauren Howley Entering Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade One Kathy Polubinski has served as the Preschool teacher at The Albany Academies since its inception in 1998. Prior Little Leapers provides a creative, nurturing and enriching to this position, she worked at The Albany Academy as the environment. LEAP (Learning Enrichment Activities Program) Entering Grades 2-8 This unique and very popular camp is a two week, full-day program. Campers must register for both weeks of the two week session. Students design their own daily schedule and participate in five classes of their interest. Choices include areas of academics, foreign language, visual arts, performing arts, sports, technology and adventure. All courses are taught by classroom teachers with that particular expertise and are assisted by enthusiastic summer counselors. To create your child’s schedule, the class charts and descriptions are available on The Albany Academies website. During online registration, you will select the five classes to create the campers’ individualized schedule.

Director: Ann DiBiase Ann DiBiase has been affiliated with LEAP since 1985. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from The College of Saint Rose. She taught in The Albany Academy Lower School for five years and, after receiving her Master’s Degree in Reading from SUNY Albany, she returned to The Academy as a teacher in the LEAP program. She then became the Assistant Director in 2009 and Director in 2012. Mrs. DiBiase is currently a long- term substitute teacher in the Bethlehem School District.

44 Musical Theater

Musical Theater: Shrek The Musical Jr. Entering Grades 4-9

Welcome to The Albany Academies Musical Theater Camp! Staffed with experienced actors, directors and technicians, this fast- paced rehearsal process will culminate on the last day of camp with a matinée dress rehearsal for the other camps and a Friday evening performance of Shrek The Musical Jr. Along the way, students will participate in several workshops that address both performance and technical aspects of theater. In addition to being cast in the show, each student will have the opportunity to create an audition binder complete with a resume, sheet music and an 8 X 10 headshot to prepare them for future auditions. Please note: Show may be subject to change based on enrollment. Director: Matthew Streifert Matthew Streifert has been teaching at The Albany Academies for eleven years. He teaches theater, general music and chorus in the Lower, Middle & Upper School divisions. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance from SUNY Albany and an M.M. in Music Education from Boston University. When he’s not at work, Mr. Streifert can often be found on stage performing in musicals with local theater companies.

5 5 Leadership & Life Skills Drivers Ed Leadership & Life Skills Entering Grades 9-10 We are excited this summer to continue to offer a Leadership and Life Skills Program at The Albany Academies! Campers will be involved in a multitude of activities that will help them create their own leadership styles, as well as starting to think about the next big step in their lives: college! They will work together in group activities to step outside their comfort zone and learn to become important members of a community. Group dynamics, team building, problem solving, life skills and community service projects with Ronald McDonald House are at the core of this program. Each day campers will come across new challenges and ideas that will help in making them better leaders and important members of a community.

Director: Patrick Kauth Patrick Kauth has an undergraduate degree in both economics and political science from Merrimack College and a Master’s Degree in teaching from Columbia University in . Studying abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland during his junior year of college spurred a lifelong love of travel to match his passion for reading and the social sciences. After a varied career in sales and finance, Mr. Kauth enthusiastically joined The Albany Academies in 2015 and primarily teaches ninth grade world history and is involved in myriad extracurricular activities. Now a resident of Saratoga Springs, Mr. Kauth enjoys watching and talking about ice hockey whenever he can.

This non-credit course will include 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of road instruction. Students must have a valid NYS Learner’s Permit or license prior to taking the program. Upon successful completion of the program, the students will be issued an MV-285 Student Certificate approximately 4 weeks after completion.

Classes will meet on dates listed below and rotate between classroom work and driving instructions.

*Please note-Participants MUST attend all classes and in-car instruction daily July 5-July 26. Any missed days can’t be made up and the MV-285 certificate will not be issued.This program is open to the first 16 students who register.

6 Middle School Science Academy

Science Academy-Robotics/3D Printing Entering Grades 5-6 & 7-8

Located in our newly constructed Borisenok Family Science Center at Albany Academy for Girls, join us for this co-ed, all-day program. You will learn the basics of design as you work to construct and program VEX-style robots in order to complete a series of challenges. We will take advantage of 3D modeling to design custom robot parts and accessories. We will then print your designs on our large 3D printer. Expect to be challenged and to have fun as we explore these exciting fields!

Instructors: John McNally & Walter Keeley John McNally has an undergraduate degree in Applied Technology Education from The College of Saint Rose. Mr. McNally coached the FLL (First Lego League) Robotics team at The Albany Academy during the 2013 and 2014 season. Currently, Mr. McNally coaches The Albany Academies’ Upper School FTC (First Tech Challenge) team. He also teaches an Introduction to Engineering and a Principles of Engineering class at The Albany Academies in the Borisenok Family Science Center.

Walter Keeley has taught physics at the high school level since 2004. He has been at The Albany Academies for seven years and involved with the Upper School’s FTC Robotics teams for the past six seasons. Mr. Keeley received his AB in physics from Wabash College and his MAT from Earlham College.

7 LEAPS & Bounds Adventure Camp Entering Grades 7-9

LEAPS & Bounds is in its seventh year of active outdoor escapades in the surrounding areas of the capital region. This co-ed adventure camp encourages advanced thinking, problem-solving, and a life-long love of learning and adventure seeking in the great outdoors. Join us for a week or two and get ready for more adventure than you thought was possible! The first week of Adventure Camp will challenge campers at Adirondack Extreme Adven- ture Course in Bolton Landing. We will also test their endurance with high peaks day-long hiking complete with the reward of stunning panoramic views of the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains. The second week of adventure camp is water week! Campers will test their courage on various water adventures including Class III+ white water rapids with a rafting adventure down the Hudson River complete with picnic lunch and dinner through Beaver Brook Outfitters. Both weeks will include moderate difficulty level hiking which will require appropriate mountain hiking footwear, hydration, backpack and attire. No matter rain or shine, each day’s adventure will bring a new challenge to employ outdoor skills in a fresh, fun and imaginative way!

Please Note: It is imperative that students are able to understand and follow all safety instructions. This camp requires students to have swimming skills and the ability to participate in physically demanding outdoor activities. There will be a mandatory swim test administered to all campers at the start of week two only.

Director: Alina Daley, Co-Director: Adah Keegan Alina Daley has been a teacher of biology and chemistry at The Albany Academies for four years. Prior to her arrival at the Academies, Mrs. Daley taught Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Las Vegas, NV. Mrs. Daley grew up in the Albany area but spent her childhood summer vacations in Ticonderoga, NY which is a small town on Lake George. She has hiked and camped in California, southern Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota and in eastern North Carolina. During her years in Nevada, Mrs. Daley spent almost every month exploring Red Rock, Mount Charleston, or the Valley of Fire. She was the middle school outdoor adventure club advisor in Las Vegas and monthly took student groups on trips to local hiking trails, nature preserves, zoos, and aquariums. As a two-year Director of the Leaps & Bounds program, Mrs. Daley is thrilled to continue to pass along her love for the outdoors to another generation! Adah Keegan is an AAG graduate class of 2010 and Mrs. Daley’s sister! Ms. Keegan just earned her Master’s Degree from SUNY Albany in Information Science. She is currently working towards becoming a youth services librarian. Thanks to many family trips, she shares a similar passion for outdoor adventure. She has travelled and camped exten- sively throughout the US and Nicaragua, and spent an intensive two-week overnight camping adventure in Yellow- stone National Park last summer. She is most excited about sharing her appreciation of America’s natural beauty and fostering a spirit of conservation amongst our campers.

8 Classic Day & Adventures in Sports

Classic Day Camp Entering Grades 2-8 Classic Day Camp offers a variety of educational and recreational activities in a safe and caring environment. Campers will have the opportunity to rotate throughout a variety of structured activities during the day. Activities will include arts & crafts, sports, team building, science experiments, theme days and much more. Campers are encouraged to bring summer reading, math or other summer homework to work on during a quiet part of the day. There will also be free play outdoors each day. All campers will cool off with daily free swim in our indoor pool that will be supervised by an experienced, certified aquatics director as well as certified lifeguards. (Please note-there will not be swimming the week of August 14)

Director: Zach Nelson A 2010 graduate of The Albany Academy, Zach Nelson has been a high school math teacher at The Albany Academy for the last two years. Mr. Nelson is a graduate of St. Lawrence University with a Masters from The University of Massachusetts at Lowell. This will be his 7th year working for The Albany Academies Summer Program. Mr. Nelson will also direct the Extended Day program throughout the summer.

Adventures in Sports Entering Grades 4-8 If you are all about sports ALL day then this co-ed camp is for you! We will run the gamut from classic games like basketball, tennis, soccer and volleyball to team games like flag football, kickball and tennis baseball. You will also learn some backyard games like Bocce, Horseshoes, Corn Hole and Ladder Ball. All campers will cool off with daily free swim in our indoor pool that will be supervised by an experienced, certified aquatics director as well as certified lifeguards. Sprint, jump, hop, leap and kick your way into registering for these weeks of SPORTS fun! (Please note-there will not be swimming the week of August 14)

Director: Shane Hutchins Shane Hutchins graduated from SUNY Brockport with a BS degree in Physical Education in 2015. Shane played larosse for SUNY Brockport and was voted captain for the 2014 season. He graduated from The Albany Academies in 2011 where he was major of the Cadet Corps and captain of the JV hockey and varsity lacrosse teams his senior year. Shane is currently working as a substitute teacher, JV hockey coach and the Modified and JV lacrosse coach at The Albany Academies.

9 Evening Volleyball

Outdoor Evening Volleyball Entering Grades 6-12 Join us for some outdoor evening fun! Outdoor Evening Volleyball is a co-ed program open to students with all levels of ability. For the campers who are new to volleyball, this class will introduce them to the fundamentals of the game. They will develop the basic skills such as serving and passing the ball. For the more advanced campers, this class will continue building their skills and provide ample time to play the game. We will have multiple nets with various levels of play. In the event of poor weather, we will move to the indoor gym across the street at the Albany Academy for Girls.

Director: John McNally John McNally is the STEM teacher at The Albany Academies. He has an undergraduate degree in Applied Technology Education from The College of Saint Rose. This past season was Mr. McNally’s fifth year of coaching volleyball at Albany Academy for Girls. Three nights weekly: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays July 11- August 3 Cost: $150 Hours: 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This program is open to the first 24 students who register and requires a minimum of 12 participants to run the program.

Registration: Register online at www.albanyacademies.org. Visa, Discover, Amex, MC and check are accepted. Half the cost of camp is due upon registration. Payment in full is due by May 1, 2017.

Cancellation Policy: If you choose to cancel registration prior to June 1, 2017, please submit request in writing. You will receive the full refund of the tuition minus a $50 cancellation fee. If registration is cancelled after June 1, 2017, you will forfeit 50% of the program tuition. Children absent from camp will not be entitled to refund or exchange of dates.

Discounts: A discount will be given to individual campers who attend camp a total of five or more weeks as follows: 5 weeks-$25, 6 weeks-$50, 7 weeks-$80, 8 weeks-$110, 9 weeks-$140

Health Forms: Health history will be filled out yearly during online registration. Due to updated requirements for immunizations, the Department of Health requires all campers (with the exception of Academies’ students) to submit current immunization records.

Lunch: Lunch and a healthy morning snack are provided. Little Leapers and students attending Extended Day will also have an afternoon snack. No products containing nuts will be served or allowed on campus. The lunch menu is available on our website.

Discipline Policy: The Albany Academies reserve the right to dismiss any camper whose behavior interferes with the rights or safety of others or with the smooth functioning of the group or activity.
