    1993-94 ECHL Card Set for Hockey Blast Information Booklet Introduction 1993-94 was the sixth season of the East Coast Hockey League. Four expansion franchises (Charlotte, South Carolina, Huntington, and Roanoke) joined the league, increasing the number of teams to 19. The new franchise in Roanoke was made possible due to the relocation of the former Roanoke Valley Rampage to Huntsville, Alabama. Award winners that season were as follows: MVP: Joe Flanagan (Birmingham) – 54 G, 72 A, 126 Pts in 62 games Leading Scorer: Phil Berger (Greensboro) – 56 G, 83 A, 139 Pts in 68 games Rookie of the Year: Dan Gravelle (Greensboro) – 38 G, 66 A, 104 Pts in 58 games Defenseman of the Year: Tom Nemeth (Dayton) – 16 G, 82 A, 98 Pts in 66 games Goalie of the Year: Cory Cadden (Knoxville) – 26-8-4, 3.09 GAA, .898 SV% in 40 games Hockey history was made on the ice that season as Manon Rheaume and Erin Whitten, the first two female goaltenders in professional hockey, recorded their first wins. Whitten became the first to pick up a victory for Toledo on October 30, 1993, replacing an injured Alain Harvey at the beginning of the second period and stopping 15 of 19 shots in a 6-5 win over Dayton. Rheaume became the first female ECHL goalie to start and win a game on November 6, 1993 when she made 32 saves for Knoxville in a 9-6 victory over Johnstown. Knoxville captured its second Brabham Cup as regular season champions but were upset by Louisville in the first round of the playoffs, just as they were in 1990-91 when they finished first overall.

Afternoon Matchup: After suffering a 3-1 loss on Friday night, the San Jose Barracuda look to get back on track as the Tucson Roadrunners make their first ever trip to SAP Center. After winning four-straight games from Dec. 20 to Dec. 28, the Roadrunners have now lost three straight including a 3-2 overtime loss to the Stockton Heat on Friday. Special Group: The San Jose Barracuda killed off both Milwaukee power-play tries on Friday night and still sit atop the AHL on the penalty kill (87.9%). The Barracuda also rank within the top five in the league on the power play. On Wednesday, the Barracuda matched a season high with three power-play tallies and went 1-for-2 on Friday. San Jose is ranked third in the AHL on the man advantage (27.2%). All-Star Nods: On Thursday the AHL announced that Barracuda Goaltender Troy Grosenick and rookie Forward Danny O’Regan had been named to the 2017 All-Star game, which will take place in Lehigh Valley at the end of the month. Grosenick is having a career campaign in his fourth season as a pro, posting a 9-6-1 record in 20 games played. The Brookfield, WI, native leads the AHL in shutouts (5), is T-14th in wins, fourth in save percentage (.928) and fifth in goals-against average (2.12).

    A staple in the New York region and an emerging program on the nationalQuick stage, the Facts Manhattanville and College Athletic Contents Department continues to bolster its reputation as a program on the rise in all areas: athletic achievement, academic success and overall participation. More than 300 Valiant student-athletes (nearly 20 percent of the student body) took part in intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 school year, showcasing the continued and rapid growth of athletics at Manhattanville. With women’s golf beginning play as a varsity sport last year, the program now sponsors 20 competitive intercollegiate teams – including eight teams that have been established or re-established in the last six years alone. And the teams at Manhattanville have proved themselves more than able to hold their own in an increasingly competitive athletic landscape. Fourteen of the school’s 20 intercollegiate programs earned berths in their respective conference championships last year, while both men’s hockey and women’s hockey teams received national rankings over the course of the year. On an individual level, many Valiant student-athletes were honored in 2012-13 as well. Field hockey junior Amanda DeChent was named the program’s fi rst-ever NFHCA All-American, giving Manhattanville at least one All-America selection in 13 of the last 14 years, while senior high jumper Bill Motherway was crowned the school’s fi rst champion at the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Manhattanville also boasted two Freedom Conference Players of the Year to go with 45 combined All-Conference honorees. In addition, nearly 40 former Valiants have gone on to play their sport professionally either domestically or overseas in recent years, including former baseball standout Dan Fiorito ’12, who signed a deal with the New York Yankees in August 2012.
