First: The ADK Headquarters in Lake George has your snail mail address and the phone number (that you gave them when you joined) and if you chose to register your e-mail address with them, they have that too. You would then get periodic emails from them about activities, appeals or issues. This is only updated when you tell them to do so. Hurricane cannot change your information for you. Second: Hurricane Chapter gets our ‘snail mail’ mailing labels from ADK. So if your membership lapses, don’t expect to get anything in your snail mail from Hurricane or ADK – except maybe an appeal to re-join. (Please avoid this situation) Third: Hurricane has a ‘newsletter e-mail’ list which Leslie Shipps (our hero!) maintains. This is to get your newsletter electronically – and print it yourself. She adds your name to the list if you send her an e-mail at . [email protected] If you haven’t already done this – please do so unless you really cannot get email.     HEALTHY HAPPY ATTITUDES Harrietstown Housing Authority Volume 18 Issue 8 www.harrietstownha.org August 2018 Sarah’s News The summer heat is not slowing my work. I’m busier than ever. Not all of you know that the Housing Authority is affiliated with a small non-profit organization, the Adirondack Housing Development Corporation (AHDC). Since 2012, AHDC has managed the Helen Hill Apartments on the corner of Front and Helen streets in Saranac Lake. AHDC is paid for its manage- ment of the apartments and, because AHDC contracts with the Housing Authority for the staff to do this work, the Housing Authority also is paid. This revenue enables the Housing Authority to operate closer to its budg- et. AHDC has been working for more than two years to ready itself to acquire the Helen Hill Apartments and obtain funding to make needed upgrades. In May, New York State Homes and Community Renewal awarded AHDC an almost $700,000 loan/award to make many of the needed improve- ments. AHDC and the owner have a signed purchase and sale agreement conditioned on the satisfaction of certain terms – terms that are being addressed over time. If all progresses as hoped, AHDC will own the Helen Hill Apartments this fall and commence upgrades immediately. AHDC will continue to contract with the Housing Authority for staff; and, AHDC will continue to pay the Housing Authority for staff’s work. AHDC’s mission, in part, is to provide decent, affordable housing and re- lated community services and facilities designed to meet the needs and requirements of low income families and individuals.

    SPRING 2015 Adirondack Mountain Club NORTH JERSEY RAMAPO CHAPTER NEWSLETTER & HIKE SCHEDULE A Message From the Chair WELCOME SPRING! My first task as your new Chair is to thank those board members that are ending their tenure. I would like to thank our past Chair Jeff Sovelove for leading the chapter for the past 2 years. Thanks also to Suzan Gordon for her many years as Programs Chair, Marcia Greenwald for her many years as Treasurer and Deanna Felicetta for her years as our Delegate to the NYNJ Trail Conference. I also want to welcome Daphne Downes as our new Vice Chair, Allen Grunthal as our new Treasurer and Chris Tausch as our new Delegate to the Trail Conference. These new members will bring fresh ideas to our board meetings. We are actively looking for a volunteer to replace Suzan. Please contact me if you would be interested or if you have any questions about the Program Chair position. I want to encourage all members to become more involved in our chapter’s activities. Do you know we maintain a section of Long Path and a section of the Ramapo Dunderberg trail in Harriman Park? I am leading a trail maintenance hike on Saturday, May 16th; see the hike listing for details. All members are welcome to come and help clean up our section of the R-D. There are also volunteer opportunities in the Catskills and the Adirondack High Peaks. Click on stewardship at the adk. org website for more information. Since 1986, thousands of volunteers have worked with experienced ADK trail crew lead- ers to complete trail maintenance and reconstruction projects in the Adirondacks and Catskills.
