Ferruccio Lamborghini FERRUCCIO LAMBORGHINI Ferruccio Elio Arturo Lamborghini, nació el 28 de abril de 1916 en Renazzo di Cento, una pequeña provincia de Ferrara, Italia. Hijo de agricultores, cursó estudios de técnica industrial. Durante la II Guerra Mundial sirvió en un destacamento de transporte donde se hizo cargo del mantenimiento de los camiones. Finalizada la guerra comienza a comprar sobrantes de vehículos militares para convertirlos en maquinaria agrícola. Lo reconocían como una persona adinerada y un excelente fabricante de tractores, sistemas de unidades calentadoras y máquinas de aire acondicionado. El fabricante italiano decidió crear la empresa Lamborghini, con el objetivo de generar competencia a Enzo Ferrari. Todo comenzó después de la segunda guerra mundial, cuando un hombre adquirió un carro deportivo Ferrari, en el cual observó que había componentes del embrague que eran iguales a los que él usaba en sus tractores; además de eso, su Ferrari estaba presentando algunos fallos. Por razones como estas, decidió visitar a Enzo Ferrari para comunicarle los problemas que estaba presentando su coche. Ese hombre fue Ferruccio Lamborghini. Ferrari insultó a Lamborghini, diciendo "un fabricante de tractores no me va a enseñar cómo hacer coches deportivos". Y afrentado por la reacción de Ferrari, Lamborghini decidió "construir un coche mejor que un Ferrari" y demostrar que los supercoches no deberían de ser tan temperamentales como los Ferrari. Para cumplir con su objetivo, en el mes de mayo de 1963 Ferruccio fundó la sociedad “Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini”, y contrató a los ex-ingenieros de Ferrari Gianpaolo Dallara y Robert Wallace para diseñar y desarrollar sus coches. El primer auto que se fabricó en la empresa fue el Lamborghini 350 GT, que era muy superior en cuanto a los defectos que Ferruccio había encontrado en el Ferrari y fue presentado en la Feria del Auto de Turín en ese mismo año. Llegó el año 1967, y todos los medios especializados se volvieron para admirar el Miura, el prototipo que catapultó a la marca a un nivel de éxito muy alto. Su nombre se debe a una ganadería española de toros de lidia, ya que el fundador de Lamborghini era un apasionado de la tauromaquia y de ahí el logo de la marca, además de que todos sus autos tuvieran denominaciones de estos animales. En el año 1972, hizo grandes inversiones para mejorar la capacidad de producción de su fábrica, para poder cumplir con un pedido masivo que se le había hecho desde Sudamérica. Un tiempo después, se le comunicó a Lamborghini, que el pedido se cancelaria, por lo que el italiano se vio obligado a vender una parte de su empresa para recuperar algo del dinero invertido. En ese mismo año, Georges- Henri Rossetti se asoció a la empresa. En el año 1973, Ferruccio Lamborghini vendió la parte de la empresa que aún le quedaba a René Leimer, para irse a vivir a un viñedo que había comprado años atrás, y dedicarse a labores de agricultura. Lamborghini se retiró a una inmensa finca de la localidad de Panicale, donde se convirtió en productor de vinos (1,5 millones de botellas al año). A uno de sus caldos más apreciados le dio el nombre de Sangue di Miura. Como fabricante de automóviles deportivos, Ferruccio Lamborghini era único en su trabajo. Mientras que otros fabricantes de carros deportivos se centraban en demostrar la velocidad, la fiabilidad, y la superioridad técnica de sus coches por la participación en los motores de carreras, Lamborghini estableció que su empresa no participaría o apoyaría los motores de carreras. Ferruccio Lamborghini falleció en un hospital de Perugia, Italia, el 20 de febrero del año 1993, a la edad de 76 años, a causa de problemas cardíacos y respiratorios. .

Lamborghini’s first production car, the Touring-styled 350GT, debuted at the 1963 Turin Motor Show with deliveries commencing in the spring of 1964. The work of two of Italy’s most illustrious automobile designers, the 350GT featured a glorious 3.5-litre, four-cam V12 designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, housed in a chassis penned by engineer Gianpaolo Dallara, formerly with Ferrari and Maserati. This state-of-the-art power unit produced 270bhp (DIN), which was good enough for a top speed in excess of 150mph. The 350GT’s four camshafts and all-independent suspension meant that it upstaged the best that Ferrari offered at the time, but to compete with his Maranello rival’s larger models Lamborghini needed a four- seater, and the 400GT 2+2 duly appeared in 1966. A development of the 350GT, the newcomer used an enlarged – to 3,929cc – V12. This 4.0-litre unit had first appeared in 1965, finding its way into a handful of late 350GTs, this interim model being known as the 400GT.
