FAMILY HISTORY The history of the Crayton family began with John Crayton and a Native American woman named Riley, reportedly of Tonkawa Indian heritage. John Crayton originated from Tennessee and traveled to Texas. Along the way he met Riley, affectionately known to us as Grandma Riley and had a son named James (Jim) Crayton Sr. Jim later met and married Jane Bell Allen, “Grandma Jane” (both pictured left). Together they were said to have 18 children, nine boys and nine girls. Among the known children were Jim Jr., Lizzie, Tennessee, Gurtrude, Minnie, Rhoda, Dock, Baylor, John, Ben and Bruce. It was these 18 children that gave birth to all known relatives in our family today. Many of these ancestors can be found buried in Crayton Cemetery located in the York Creek community on Lemann Road or in the York Creek Cemetery at Clearview Baptist Church. DON’T MISS THE FUN!
