2010 San Antonio Tour Information  All tour prices are per person.  On Saturday, 6 November we are offering two stay over tours for people who want to see a little more of Texas and mix the reunion with a short vacation. So come in a day early and stay a day longer. Life is too short to rush.

Tour #1. $45—Tuesday, 2 November, River Walk Dinner with Boat Tour. 5:45 PM to 9:30 PM. We will depart El Tropicano Hotel at 5:45 PM and go directly to the River Walk boat landing. Relax and enjoy the lush tropical beauty of the and the fun of gliding past restaurants, shops, hotels, and historical sites on your tour. After your tour we dock at the best Mexican restaurant on the river. Your dinner follows cocktails at the cash bar and is served overlooking the boats and people traveling the river. Package includes boat tour, guides, restaurant reservations, Mexican dinner with salad and ice tea, state taxes and 18% gratuity at the restaurant.

Tour #2. $30—Wednesday 3 November. Early Bird Tour. The Gruene Texas Adventure, 9:00 to 2 PM. We will meet you in the hotel lobby and escort you to your motor coach for a pleasant trip to historic Gruene Texas on the scenic banks of the Guadalupe River. The town of Gruene has been placed on the National Register of historic places as a restored 20th century town. Gruene offers unique shopping with many specialty stores, antiques and wine tasting shops. For lunch there are excellent restaurants to select from. The town has several general stores, a pottery works and even a Christmas store. A very nice outing with time to enjoy your friends.

Tour #3. $30—Thursday 4 November. Spouses & Guests Tour, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. We will shop at four unique locations: First the 1920 General Store at the San Antonio Shoe Factory (SAS). There are many types of leather goods and shoes. Next we will stroll through “The Little Village” an arts and crafts village on the banks of the San Antonio River. Shops include clothes, jewelry, glass and art work of many kinds. Lunch on your own will be your choice of Alamo Plaza, , or River Center Mall, another great shopping location. After lunch we will explore the largest Mexican Market in the U.S.A. with all the South of the border bargains.

Tour #4. $49—Thursday 4 November, 6 PM to 10 PM, Western Evening at the San Antonio German Society Beer Garden. We have selected this location because it is a private club in downtown San Antonio. The Beer Garden is attached to an authentic 1880’s German beer hall, it is comfortable and charming under a stand of tall majestic trees. Travel time to your Texas Bar-B-Que is 5 minutes from the Tropicano Hotel. Upon arrival have a drink (cash bar) followed by the best Bar-B-Que dinner in Texas. It includes 1/3 beef brisket, ranch beans, potato salad, cole slaw, ice tea, and all the fixin’s. The beer hall has American beer and beer from Germany. Dessert is freshly baked pies. Your band is the “Country Swing Band” which has been playing together since the 1950’s. They are great and worth the trip to Texas. Your Western Show has the best trick roper in the U.S.A. You’ll enjoy all the old Will Rogers rope tricks as well as a six gun show and Bull Whip skills. Our western entertainers are all Ranch folks so join the party for South Texas Hospitality. Tour #5, $35—Friday, 5 November. The Best of San Antonio Tour, 9:30 AM to 2 PM. First stop will be at Mission Concepcion. The mission was started in 1731 and holds historic art and wonderful story of Colonial Spain. On we go to the famous Alamo mission fort with its historic Long Barracks and Chapel. Lunch is on your own at the River Center Mall or the Menger Hotel buffet. Additionally, we will visit the San Antonio Sunken Gardens for a walk through a beautiful Japanese Tea Garden in Brackenridge Park. Our last stop is at the oldest Cathedral in the United States, “San Fernando Cathedral”, a true National treasure.

Tour #6, $45.—Saturday, 6 November 9 AM to 4 PM, National Museum of the War in the Pacific and the Admiral Nimitz Museum. Your tour travels through the charming Texas Hill Country to Fredericksburg, Texas, the hometown of Adm. Chester Nimitz. The high point of the tour is the National Museum of the Pacific War. Included in this historic Park is the Japanese Peace Garden and The George Bush Sr. Gallery of the Pacific War, which also tells the complete story of WWII. The Nimitz family Steamship Hotel, owned by the Admiral’s Grandfather, is where Chester Nimitz grew up. The museum tells the story of the Nimitz family in Fredericksburg. In addition, there is an Aircraft Carrier hanger deck and a PT boat exhibit that is first class. To top off this display of naval history is the Plaza of the Presidents which tells the stories of all our presidents who served in WWII as members of the military. Lunch is on your own at one of the fine restaurants located on Main Street within two blocks of the Nimitz Museum. After lunch you are free to return to the museums or enjoy shopping the unique stores on Main Street. We will board the coaches for our return trip at 2:30 PM with arrival at your hotel at 4 PM.
