At this time of the year, a time for giving, it would be wonderful to remember all the charity organisations that depend on the good natured generosity of the general public. THE BEST OF TIMES AND THE WORST OF TIMES Above: Steppe Buzzard In keeping with the season of giving, we have quite a few stories this month about Pinelanders involved in service and welfare organisations, especially for animals – from BIRDS IN PINELANDS turtles in Malaysia to dogs and cats on our own streets. In honour of this TANNING BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT R600 international awareness campaign, Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital (LVPH) joined the global initiative and hosted its own Prem Party. The “Prem Party” was held on Friday 6 November in Pinelands, Cape Town, in celebration of the lives of all the children born prematurely at the hospital over the last 10 years. LVPH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), all came together in the planning and the preparation for this special occasion. The entire LVPH NICU, Sunrise Park, Prestige Drive, Maitland paediatric specialists and hospital management wore identical purple coloured t-shirts in aid of the occasion. The attendees were addressed by Dr Leon Jedeiken, MC of the event and he shared some inspirational success stories of famous people who were born prematurely and he invited three other speakers on stage to share their stories.
