SASA Programme - What’s on Monthly Meetings SASA Monthly Meetings are held at the Athenaeum, Boundary Terraces, off Campground Road, Newlands, on the last Thursday of every month at 19h00. Entry is R10 for members and R20 for guests, including refreshments. We encourage you to attend these meetings, find out what’s going on in your society and connect with your fellow artists. Thursday 25 October: Drawing Demo by Sonja Frenz: Report Back True to all expectations, Sonja entertained, demonstrated and informed all those who attended her demonstration in October. She introduced us to a “new” medium and members had a great time afterwards trying out the PanPastels. Thank you, Sonja, we really appreciated your input. Page 2 of 9 Thursday 29 November: Eleanor Palmer Competition and End of Year Function: We end our year off with a bang! Firstly, there is our competition which has traditionally been sponsored by the late Eleanor Palmer, who was a long-standing member of the society. Eleanor was president of SASA in 1988/1989 and presented this trophy to be awarded at an annual event. This year celebrates 30 years of the Eleanor Palmer Competition! This is an open subject competition in any medium and will follow the same procedures as our other in-house competitions. Remember, you must be there to enter. Combined with our social evening, we mark the end of the SASA calendar for the year. Each member is invited to submit one artwork of their choice. We have a few rules for the Eleanor Palmer Competition: (Please read carefully, to avoid disappointment.) These are in place so everyone has a fair chance at grabbing the trophy. • Only paid-up members and honorary members may participate. • Entrants must be present on the evening. • One entry per member. • Work may be in any medium and do not have to be framed. • Our standard copyright rules apply, and if in doubt, please contact [email protected] for clarity. Work may not be copied from any source material (eg, the internet or publications such as magazines) except for where the artist is the author/owns the copyright to the image or has been given permission in writing by the author. • Work submitted must be the original hand-made work and cannot be a photographic or electronic reproduction. • Work entered may be submitted for selection to a future SASA exhibition. Each work will be allocated a number, and voting will be by those members who are present. The Italian Artshop have donated gift vouchers for the evening and the winning paintings have the opportunity of having their work displayed in the window of the Italian Artshop for one month over December. Thank you, Skye. As promised, Christine Cherry-Jones and Libby Harrison have put together a quiz with a twist. You need to be there to find out what the “twist” is! Join a group, have a glass of something and test your art knowledge. Wonderful prizes have been donated by Artland for the winners of both the best partners, friends and family are very welcome to come artwork on the evening, as well as prizes for the quiz along as guests, but please note that only members winners – thank you Linda and Greg.
