THE BEST OF TIMES AND THE WORST OF TIMES Above: Steppe Buzzard In keeping with the season of giving, we have quite a few stories this month about Pinelanders involved in service and welfare organisations, especially for animals – from BIRDS IN PINELANDS turtles in Malaysia to dogs and cats on our own streets. Starting with Guy Fawkes, when Mid-summer brings the Steppe Buzzard many pets take fright and get lost, the number of stray pets increases through the holiday to Pinelands, migrating all the way from season when the unfortunate ones are abandoned or given over when owners can no Eastern Europe where they breed. They longer cope with them. The height of the summer holidays is when welfare organisations are notoriously tricky to identify, as each are stretched to their limits and need the most support.
