The CELF is always special but this one is extra special since it’s the 25th anniversary. I attended the first (then called the CEO Forum) in 1991 at Lake Tahoe. As the executive director of ASCC, I was invited, although the event was organized by the Aberdeen Group and Concrete Construction magazine—long William D. Palmer Jr. before I worked on it. Dan Anderson, owner of the magazine and World of Concrete, Editor in Chief established the event partly to generate ideas for content for the magazine, but also [email protected] to bring together concrete construction leaders to exchange ideas—and boy did they! Twitter: @wmpalmer Some of the guys who were at that first meeting still attend but there are always new faces, too. Many of the old-timers swear that the CEO Forum was an important reason for their success. If you are a concrete contractor, you should really consider attending—sure it’s a little expensive but the ideas you get and the friends you make are worth many times the cost. My wife and her twin sister turned 60 this year and have planned for us to take a two- week trip to Alaska. We will ride bicycles 400 THE IDEAS miles over one week and fish the next. Should be fun—I haven’t taken off two weeks in a row since YOU GET AND 1989. I’m not sure how I’ll be able to just let go THE FRIENDS for that long, but I’m looking forward to trying.
