Other new and altered motions and amendments *S5M-06665 Bob Doris: Welcoming the First Glasgow Canal Festival—That the Parliament welcomes the first-ever Glasgow Canal Festival, which is taking place at Applecross Basin in north Glasgow on 22 July 2017; notes that the event will be held between 11am and 5pm on the Forth and Clyde Canal and will include street theatre, a street food village, canoe taster sessions, guided cycle tours, craft workshops, heritage and wildlife tours, live music and a behind the scenes look inside local landmarks, with the highlight of the day being the Dragon Boat Race; recognises the vital contribution that the canal has played in helping boost regeneration across the various communities bordering the canal, including Firhill, Hamiltonhill, Possilpark, Maryhill, Lambhill and Cadder; acknowledges the key leadership role of Scottish Canals in conjunction with Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government in this regeneration, and hopes that the Canal Festival is a huge success. Supported by: Ruth Maguire*, Jenny Gilruth*, Gillian Martin*, Stuart McMillan* *S5M-06664 Gail Ross: Funding for Scrabster Harbour—That the Parliament welcomes the funding award decision made by the Highland & Moray Fisheries Local Action Group for Scrabster Harbour; notes that this decision will allow for the installation of new pontoons that will allow Scrabster to increase its berthing spaces to help meet demand from fishing, leisure and cruise customers; appreciates that £73,383.75 of the funding came from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and that £24,461.25 came from the Scottish Government, and looks forward to the positive impact that it considers this funding will have on both the economy of Scrabster and the wider community. *S5M-06663 Alison Harris: National Lottery Cash to Transform Camelon—That the Parliament acknowledges plans to transform two Camelon parks for the benefit of local families through a welcome cash boost from the Our Place programme; notes that Tamfourhill Tenants and Residents Association and Communities Along The Carron Association (CATCA) are both sharing in £279,480 of funding from the Big Lottery Fund; understands that Tamfourhill Tenants and Residents Association will use its £149,500 to build a Roman-themed play park that will replace the existing play park at Tamfourhill Community Hall, and further understands that CATCA will use its £129,980 to redevelop Nailer Road Park in partnership with Falkirk Council’s Monday 10 July 2017 7 Today's Business Future Business Motions & Questions Legislation Other Gnothaichean an-diugh Gnothaichean ri teachd Gluasadan agus Ceistean Reachdas Eile Motions | Gluasadan Development Services Environment Team, deliver a volunteering programme and create a Friends of Nailer Park group, which will encourage and sustain community activity within the park. *S5M-06662 Gail Ross: Congratulations to Bualnaluib Primary School —That the Parliament congratulates Bualnaluib Primary School in Aultbea on being presented with two awards as part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge; notes that the Wester Ross school was awarded the school reading most books prize whilst Albey Antony was awarded the individual prize for a P6 pupil for his reading journey; considers that these awards are an outstanding achievement given that the school roll at Bualnaluib is just 17; pays tribute to the dedication of those pupils who undertook the reading challenge, as well as the teaching staff who encouraged their participation, and looks forward to the future success of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge, which it considers will foster a lifelong love of reading among Scotland’s young people. Supported by: Gillian Martin*, David Torrance*, Richard Lyle*, Ben Macpherson*, Graeme Dey*, Jenny Gilruth*, Bob Doris* *S5M-06659 Pauline McNeill: EIS Reports Rise in Children Attending School Hungry Due to Increasing Levels of Poverty—That the Parliament is extremely concerned regarding the rise in the number of pupils coming to school hungry, according to the Face Up To Child Poverty survey undertaken by the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS); notes that 59% of teachers reported that they had seen an increase in the number of children experiencing poverty and that 77% said that this was causing pupils to display signs of anxiety, stress and extremes of mood and aggression; understands that some staff kept food at school to give to hungry pupils and that some are reported to have observed pupils stealing food from one another; further understands that increasing numbers of pupils are arriving at school without basic items such as school bags, stationery, PE kit and warm clothes; agrees with Andrea Bradley, EIS assistant secretary for education and equality, that "the results
