This is an exciting time to be part of Church Army as we continue to grow our frontline work in addition to implementing the new strands of our DARE strategy in the next three years to further our impact and reach our vision.

We are passionate about seeing communities transformed which is why Church Army is proud to work in some of the toughest communities across the UK and and make an impact that brings about real-life change. Our Centres of Mission, which are created in partnership with Diocese, are where we deploy evangelists into communities to share faith and empower and equip the local church in mission and evangelism. We are working hard in our aim to increase to 50 Centres of Mission by 2027. In Marylebone London, we run the biggest women’s only hostel which empowers women to end their homelessness and live their lives to the full. We also run the Amber Project in which helps over 100 young people each year who battle self-harm; as well as a hostel for young people.

ROLE OF PIONEER EVANGELIST

In this role as Pioneer Evangelist, you will support the Centre of Mission in the Diocese of Llandaff in all activities, including building relationships with children and young people with the aim of exploring the Christian faith and developing new and innovative expressions of worshipping communities in response to the wider needs of the Diocese of Llandaff. You will help spread and grow a culture of evangelist, creating a community in which doing, advocating, resourcing and enabling evangelism is a shared way of life, and contributing towards the Diocesan Vision ‘Where Faith Matters’ and in particular the ‘Young Faith Matters project’. This role will need someone who is experienced in creating new worshipping communities that are appropriate for new disciples. We are looking for someone who loves people, is creative and fun-loving, is energised by children and young people and is an initiator and pioneering in spirit. In this role, you will need to be able to work independently, as well as being a collaborative team player with experience of working in team ministry and you will need to help establish and develop links within the community. As a Christian, you will have a Jesus-centred and trinity-based life and ministry. You will be self-sustained and able to sustain your own walk and relationship with God. CENTRE OF MISSION IN LLANDAFF DIOCESE The Centre of Mission in the Diocese of Llandaff was established in 2015 and built relationships and communities across the Deanery of through until 2020. At the end of 2019, the Diocese secured funding from the Mission and Evangelism Fund made available to the to fulfil its new Vision ‘Faith Matters’, including funding to extend the Centre of Mission for a further five years to 2025. Planning around the extension of funding for the Centre of Mission coincided with the move away from Deaneries towards the implementation of 29 Ministry Areas across the Diocese. The move to Ministry Areas has provided an exciting opportunity to extend the work of the Centre of Mission and to broaden our reach across the wider diocese, with 50% of our work to be focussed on 'Faith Matters' and the new diocesan wide vision and the remaining 50% to be focussed on 'Young Faith Matters', reflecting and extending our existing work with Youth and Children and placing this firmly at the heart of the Centre of Mission. Our evangelists will therefore be working as part of a wider a team of advisers or supporters within the Diocese, advising, enabling and resourcing the 29 Ministry areas to engage with the Diocesan vision and reach out with the Gospel across their respective communities and to transform lives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Pioneer Evangelist for the Centre of Mission in the Diocese of Llandaff Location: Llandaff Diocese

2. To contribute to the delivery of the Diocesan Vision Where Faith Matters and in particular to support the Young Faith Matters project.

3. To develop appropriate and innovative expressions of worshipping communities in response to the wider needs of the Diocese.

4. To help spread and grow a culture of evangelism across the Diocese by training, encouraging and enthusing parishes and Ministry Areas to join in with the Mission of God and by seeking new partnerships.

5. To prosper the work and witness of the Church Army Mission Community.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS:

1. As pioneer evangelist of the Llandaff Centre of Mission, to create a community in which doing, advocating, resourcing and enabling evangelism is a shared way of life.

1.1 To grow the service of the Centre of Mission, presenting a life of such attractiveness that increasing numbers of local Christians are drawn into the mission of God, and to oversee their training.

1.2 To identify and be an advocate for those who are particularly gifted at evangelism, and together with them seek out and develop suitable evangelistic opportunities.

1.3 To resource and enable those in the Diocese who are inspired by the Centre of Mission who hope to reach un-churched people with the Christian Good News.

2. To contribute to the delivery of the Diocesan Vision Where Faith Matters and in particular to support the Young Faith Matters project

2.1 To build capacity within the Diocese, drawing on the skills, knowledge and expertise in evangelism of the Llandaff Centre of Mission.

2.2 To liaise and work alongside a range of other Diocesan support staff to deliver aspects of the Vision and Young Faith Matters

2.3 To use the resources of the Diocese and Church Army in equipping Ministry Areas to engage in appropriate evangelism in the Diocese especially youth evangelism and inter-generational opportunities.

2.4 In working with the local churches and the Centre of Mission team identify, encourage and train a volunteer teams that will share effectively the Good News of Jesus Christ.

3. To develop appropriate and innovative expressions of worshipping communities in response to the wider needs of the Diocese.

3.1 Developing the forms of worshipping community appropriate to those communities, especially working with young people, the elderly and lone parent families.

3.2 Lead innovations in what it means to be a worshipping community in communities across the Diocese that meets the individual needs of the people.

3.3 In conjunction with the Diocese and Church Army to build sustainable teams that support vibrant worshipping communities.

4. To help spread and grow a culture of evangelism across the Diocese by training, encouraging and enthusing parishes and Ministry Areas to join in with the Mission of God and by seeking new partnerships.

4.1 To encourage and train people in pioneering evangelism and new forms of Christian community in the Diocese of Llandaff.

4.2 To work with other denominations in promoting opportunities to share their faith effectively.

4.3 To work to create a culture where sharing faith are considered to be exciting and accessible for the people in the Diocese of Llandaff.

4.4 Seek to develop strategic partnerships to communicate the gospel further afield.

5. To participate in raising funds and prayer support.

5.1 To inform Church Army, the Diocese and others who are an interest in evangelism of what can be learn from the experience of Centres of Mission.

5.2 To build a support base that would sustain your work and the wider ministry.

5.3 To engage fully with the process of ‘Recording the Journey’ and the collection of the story of impact.

General:

• To undertake any such duties as are commensurate with the post at the direction of the line-manager or their senior.

• To be active as a member of the Llandaff Centre of Mission team, demonstrating and encouraging participation in team meetings and in the overall objectives and life of the team.

• To attend an annual appraisal and regular one to ones with your line manager.

• To undertake any training as required for the role as identified in an appraisal or supervision.

TRAINING

As a responsible employer we value the importance of professional formation and expect our employees to commit to ongoing training towards fulfilling their roles. As part of your induction within Church Army the Learning and Development Team will work with you to identify any specific training and formational needs that will be key for enabling you in your role and future ministry. They will draw up a plan with you, for approval by a Training Review Panel, setting out how these needs may be addressed. We also expect that as part of your role you will join the Church Army Mission Community. This again will be picked up with you through induction and through the Community Team.

OUTLINE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Location Llandaff Diocese

Salary £23,215 per annum

Hours 37.5 hours per week Full time - flexibility is required as the role will require Working Pattern evening and weekend work. Housing or a housing allowance will be provided within the Housing Llandaff Diocese. If a Church Army commissioned evangelist, non- contributory, operated by the Church of Pensions Board. Pension If not, Church Army commissioned, then the employee will be assessed under autoenrollment pension legislation and if eligible, minimum contributions will be made.

Annual Leave 25 days per year plus bank holidays (33 days in total)

A house in the local area, or a set rate housing allowance, Housing will be provided. It is required that you reside in the local area for the performance of the role.

Probation Period 6 months

Full Time, Fixed Term Contract Type (from 1st September 2021 to 31st August 2025).

Notice Period 4 weeks (after probation period)

An enhanced DBS check required and compliance with DBS Requirement Church Army’s Safer Ministry policy.
