Glamorgan, and of some of his descendants, and their relatives. Some of his papers were bequeathed to the Library in 1974 by the late Miss A. G. Jones, J.P., M.A., the present testator's sister. The papers comprise the following groups. The papers of Rev William Griffiths himself, including details of marches undertaken during his service with the Royal Carmarthen Fusiliers, 1807-12; volume 2 of his journal, 1815-16; his 'text' book', 1817-61 ; accounts relating to chapel building, etc., in Gower, 1839-54, to 'the Welsh Methodists Home Missionary Society' and the Trevecca College Fund Collection, 1839-43; and to visits to England and north Wales, 1841-58; sermon notes, 1817-61 ; a group of catechisms prepared for Sunday schools in Gower, 1831-57; and press cuttings from The Patriot. The correspondence of Rev William Griffiths, including letters from [Lady] Barham 1817-23, [Lord] Barham, afterwards [Earl of] Gainsborough, 1825-61, his future wife A. G. Howell] when she was a pupil teacher at Ebley Court, near Stroud, 1877-8; an account book of a school kept by her at Aberaeron, 1879-85; and papers relating to her work as matron of Aberystwyth Theological College, as a Justice of the Peace for the county of Cardigan, as a governor of Aberaeron County School, and as a speaker on behalf of the Coalition Liberals.
