The messages in these cards run from simple beauty to sappy and senmental as they eloquently describe what LOVE is. All throughout histo- ! ! ry, many poets, writers and musicians have aempted to ! " describe for us what “love is.” A favorite line of Shake- #$ # ! speare, o en quoted by many, is “love is blind.” The Beatles ! ! gave us “love is all you need.” For those who remember the ! %& 1970 movie Love Story we have the famous “love means ' " "& (&)* ! never having to say you’re sorry.” And we could go on and " ! ! on. However, the 2 nd reading in this week’s liturgy, one of ! +",& the most quoted in Scripture, read at many weddings and - & . "/ anniversaries, is St. Paul’s reflecon on what “love is.” The # ! $ original language of the New Testament was Greek, the pre- ! 0&..& 12 / 3. +&. dominant language of the day. The Greeks had more than ! % ! & one! word to convey the concept of love, while in our English ! (# & . language we only have the one word. The Greeks’ various 4. $ 4 ! words conveyed subtle differences, whether they were talk- ! ing of romanc love, friendship or brotherly love or, as St. .)..&"" Paul was, describing a love above all loves, a spiritual love. 5 - & &. ! The Greek word used here by St. Paul was agape. This spoke ! ' of the love God has for us, even we could say, the love God is for us. It also speaks of our love for God, imperfect as our +& $6# .&.& human love is, and in extension, the love of God that we 7+.. share with others (caritas or charity). St. Paul explains to us -2 $+ that love must be the reason for all that we do or it loses all meaning. Natural and even spiritual gi s that are good and worthy mean nothing if not for love of God. Reclaiming our Inheritance We all live very busy lives. Often we can feel there are not enough hours in a day to do all the things that we want to do. Perhaps that is because we forget who we are and the purpose of our lives. As Jesus reminded the Scribes and Pharisees, “What good would it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” Matt.16:26. No matter how faithful we may be to the practice of the faith, we can take for granted the gifts God has given us in Jesus or even turn a deaf ear to His call for conversion. We may be convinced that we have nothing more to do when it comes to our faith. However, each of us needs to Reclaim our Inheritance . This Adult Faith Formation program, Reclaiming our Inheritance , directed by Fr. Arul , is a self- journey. A journey that makes our daily life filled with meaning, joy, purpose, love and mercy. Tuesday’s during Lent - beginning February 16th (five weeks) 7:00 PM in the School Library God has freely given us his love and mercy; it has not been forced upon us. So, with total freedom we must consciously claim these gifts for ourselves. Registration will take place in the vestibule of the church, beginning Sunday, February 7th after all of the Masses . A Love Knowing Nothing: Zen Meets Kierkegaard Mary Jeanne Larrabee 1 Abstract I present a case for a love that has a wisdom knowing nothing. How this nothing functions underlies what Kier- kegaard urges in Works of Love and how Zen compassion moves us to action. In each there is an ethical call to love in action. I investigate how Kierkegaard’s “religiousness B” is a “second immediacy” in relation to God, one spring- ing from a nothing between human and God. This imme- diacy clarifies what Kierkegaard takes to be the Christian call to love. I draw a parallel between Kierkegaard’s im- mediacy and the expression of immediacy within a Zen- influenced life, particularly the way in which it calls the Zen practitioner to act toward the specific needs of the person standing before one. Ciamarra At present, our students are valued for their capacities to thoughtlessly absorb and regurgitate standardized facts and figures. Meanwhile, the affective facets of schooling, such as love, relationality, compassion, acceptance, integrity, and altruism are overlooked by politicians and educational decision makers, who claim these elements lack academic rigor. In this study, I use the dominant views of the educational elect to accentuate the current push for a more standardized, accountable, and scientific approach to schooling. Then, I employ the counternarrative as a methodological tool for talking back, offering up personal stories and experiences that frame the power of agapic love to demystify the normative views of schooling. More specifically, I employ personal narrative as means for providing teachers a voice, one which aims to debunk confounding generalizations or refute common claims about what education is or ought to be. Finally, I analyze the divergent stories through multiple theoretic and practical lenses in order to make meaning of my experiences. Moreover, the counternarratives in this study focus on how agapic love can be utilized in pedagogical and curricular efforts to transcend the present conditions that hinder many students and teachers from being and becoming who they really are.

In this op-ed, writer Mathew Rodriguez unpacks how Netflix’s dating reality show "Love Is Blind" purports to test whether sparks can fly between people who have never seen each other before — yet doesn’t include fat people. Within the first few minutes of Love Is Blind on Netflix, host Vanessa Lachey, standing next to her husband, 98 Degrees frontman Nick Lachey, delivers the show’s premise. She says to the participating women, “Everyone wants to be loved for who they are. Not for their looks, their race, their background or their income.” To counteract the world of Tinder, Grindr, and other dating apps, which give users the chance to reject or accept a person based solely on a photo, Blind challenges people to fall in love without ever having seen their potential partners. Couples will date and forge connections in furnished pods from opposite sides of a wall. The show does make good on at least three of those promises: It does have couples that are from different economic backgrounds, different upbringings, and across races. But, for all the differences the show derives drama from, it leaves one notable exception to its experiment: weight. Love Is Blind features all average-bodied people. And while it does want to test how people find love regardless of race and class, it never even nods to people’s size.

Create a routine for completing your work, try scheduling things at specific times in Google Calendar or your planner. Utilize the resources available to you (we'll tell you all about them!). Connect with others virtually as much as you can. Alone time is something you might not have normally, try to focus on the positives and enjoy some time to yourself. 14 days may seem like a long time right now, but it will be over before you know it! If you're in quarantine, not isolation, remember, you can get outside for 2 hours a day to get some fresh air - just ask your REC or campus contact for guidelines!     love is blind Boris Vian I On August 5th at eight o’clock the city started submerging into fog. It was unusually turbid, seemed to be dark-blue colored, and didn’t hamper breathing at all. It was falling with a parallel layers: first, foamy hanging low, went about 5 centimeters up, hid from passersby their own legs. The woman from house №22 in Saint-Bracmar street couldn’t find a key lost in front of the hall- door. Six men, including a suckling, came to the help her – at this moment the second coverlet settled: they found the key, but lost the suckling, who had crawled away under cover of the foggy trail. He couldn’t wait to get rid of a feeding bottle and learn the modest delights of adult life. One thousand three hundreds sixty two keys and fourteen dogs were lost this way in the first morning. Fishermen neglected useless, henceforth, floats, got mad, and went for the hunting. The fog was tightly choking up the streets in hollows and at the bottom of slope; was clouding rainwater and ventilation pipes with a long strips; was conquering subway’s underpasses, which stopped functioning after the milk stream had gone up to the red traffic light level; in the meanwhile, the third screen fell, and a one upstairs had to make his way knee-deep in the white shroud. The inhabitants of the upper blocks, believing that they are more lucky, were ridiculing those ones who lived close to the river, but one week later peace and harmony triumphed; beginning from this point everybody was able to hit against furniture in his flat the same way, since the roofs of the highest buildings had been clouded with the fog too.
