The villages are by the River Eden north-east of Carlisle, joined by a road that used to be the Stanegate Roman Road. It has been thought on spacing grounds that there might have been a small Roman fort in Crosby-on-Eden, as part of the so-called Stanegate frontier which preceded Hadrian's Wall, but if such a fort exists it has not yet been found. The Stanegate ran in a deep cutting still visible next to the road running west from High Crosby, and it has been suggested that part of the reason for the cutting was to produce stone for building work. The line of Hadrian's Wall passes a mile or so to the north, and the Hadrian's Wall Path follows the Stanegate through the villages. PROPERTY The main entrance is at the front of the building. The whole of the ground floor is open plan with lots of little areas of character and charm with split levels. There is seating/benches for (44) with the ladies and gents at the rear of the room. There is a stunning log burner fire place which makes for a very cosy feel and adds to the ambience. The main bar area is cosy and has additional seating if you are just looking for a drink and not a meal. The walls are open brick with traditional beams, wood floors and beautiful wooden servery. There is also access to the 1st floor where the catering kitchen is positioned with another restaurant area for (24) with another ladies WC. On exiting the premises at the rear, there is an outdoor seating area with large car park for over 20 cars.
