From Tallinn city centre, take the Paldiski tee (street) and Rannamõisa tee (street), Follow the signs of Euro Velo cycling route in the direction of Tabasalu for ca 14 km and for 19 km towards Türisalu, where you can enjoy the sight of dolomite rocks on the Baltic coast from the parking lot. Then continue in the direction of Keila - Joa (3 km), where you will see the Keila - Joa waterfall. In hot summer it dries out, and visitors can see 6 m high dolomite stairs in the river bed. To get to the Keila – Joa village, turn left in Keila and ride 15 km. You will find the train station in the village center. From this station take a train back to Tallinn. Discarding the Names of Parents and Godparents Annika Hussar Estonia Abstract There were extensive changes in names and naming patterns during the 19th century. In Estonia, in addition to other significant changes, the names chosen for children were less and less influenced by the surrounding community. In other countries, the practice of giving children their godparents’ name has been researched by Smith-Bannister (1997); Garðarsdóttir (1999); Hacker (1999); Sangoï (1999); and van Poppel, Bloothooft, Gerritzen, and Verduin (1999). Social relationships played a far bigger role in the city than in the rural areas; thus the tradition of giving children their godparents’ names was preserved better in the cities. The parents’ choice was not regulated by the Lutheran church either. In Estonia, the practice of giving children double names spread only at the end of the 19th century; thus the emergence of modern names removed the names of the parents, grandparents and godparents from usage, especially in the case of girls’ names. *** For three to four hundred years, until mid-19th century, Estonians had been using names that the Germans had imported during Christianization. These Christian names were adopted in the 14th to 16th centuries (Rätsep 1982). The adopted Low German names were either already phonotactically suitable to the Estonian ear or they were adapted in their usage. The size of the stock of names used during that time was small. Researchers have pointed to the fact that between the 16th to 18th centuries and the first half of the 19th century there were indeed few names used, especially female names.

    Take a pilgrimage in West Harjumaa The westward routes across Harjumaa are to be recommended, and run mainly away from major highways, allowing anyone using them to enjoy the full beauty of Harjumaa, its nature and its various cultural sights. West Harjumaa is especially rich in manors, but it also has a good many new urban areas. The view when leaving Tallinn is of an entire shoreline featuring an impressive limestone bank, which alternates with beautiful sandy beaches in Vääna-Jõesuu, Keila-Joa, Kloogaranna, Lohusalu and Laulasmaa. Due to the fact that the aim of the pilgrimage is to introduce the beautiful shrines of Harjumaa, we will not take the trail that runs along the shoreline. PILGRIMAGE ROUTES IN WEST HARJUMAA ROUTE Tallinn (Viru Square) - Keila - Paldiski - Padise - Harju-Risti - Riisipere - Hageri - Tallinn Tallinna The pilgrimage to Harjumaa starts from Tallinn and heads off towards the city of Keila. You can go there by train, bike or on foot, and if these options are not suitable for you, all of the shrines can be accessed by car, although you might miss an interesting natural or cultural sight if you take the car and drive along the highways. If you start your pilgrimage on a bike, you must first take Paldiski Road to the Haabersti roundabout. You can also use public transport, using trolleybus No. 6 from the city centre or No. 7 from Balti Jaam railway station. To the left from the roundabout is the Õismäe residential area. To begin to leave the city, you have to take the Paldiski road, to the right of which is Lake Harku.

    HARJU MAAKONNA PIIRKONNA KONKURENTSIVÕIME TUGEVDAMISE TEGEVUSKAVA TEGEVUSTE PRIORITEETSUS Harjumaa piirkondade konkurentsivõime tugevdamise tegevuskava koostamise ja PKT meetme valdkondlike TULENEVALT MAAKONNA prioriteetide määratlemise aluseks on olnud Siseministeeriumi poolt väljatöötatud juhendmaterjal ning ARENGUKAVAST „Harju maakonna arengustrateegiast 2025“ (koos lisadega) ja piirkonna kohalike omavalitsuste arengukavadest tulenevad majanduse, tööhõive ja töökohtade lisandväärtuse kasvu ning liikuvuse ja (põhjendada, miks on maakonna ühistranspordi kitsaskohad maakonnas. Harju maakonna arengustrateegia uuendamise aluseks olevatele jaoks üks tegevus prioriteetsem analüüsidele tuginedes saab järeldada, et prioriteediks maakonnas ei ole niivõrd uute töökohtade loomine, vaid olemasolevate töökohtade säilitamine, teenuste ja töökohtadele juurdepääsu parandamine ning töö- ja kui teine) pereelu parem ühildamine. Kohalike omavalitsuste panus ettevõtluskeskkonna parandamisse saab toimuda läbi planeerimistegevuse ning avalike teenuste ja avaliku kasutusega infrastruktuuri arendamise. Tulenevalt Harju maakonna arengustrateegia lisast 3 „Harjumaa konkurentsivõime tugevdamise kava prioritiseerimise alused 2014 – 2020“, on meetme sihtala kohalike omavalitsuste vahel kokku lepitud järgnevas: 1. Seada esimeseks prioriteediks meetme alafookus keskuste ja tagamaa vaheliste ühenduste (ühistransport ja kergliiklusteed) arendamine.
