ISRC MBRS/CAMPAIGN/CORONATION MEETING MINUTES September 23, 2019 ISRC MBRS/CAMPAIGN/CORONATION MEETING MINUTES September 23, 2019 Meeting was called to order at 7:02pm Board Members in Attendance – Attendance was not taken due to this being a non-required meeting. REPORTS: Treasurer’s Report – Don Hood – Nothing to report General Membership – Hellin/Jim – 69 – 2 online and memberships paid last night at Announcement Secretary’s Report – Nikki/Mark – Nothing to report Vice President’s Report – Summer/Brent – Nothing to report President’s Report – Monica/Casey – Nothing to report Committees: Traditions – Cicely - Nothing to report Website – Kenny & Ty - Nothing to report Advertising – Jay & Sofia - Nothing to report Social Media – Richard – Nothing to report Title Holder’s Reports: White Knight/Debutante – JJ & Jaklyn – Nothing to report; Jaklyn did inform all candidates that if they would like to come to the Silverado on a Tuesday night and hang out with her, they are more than welcome. Gay Portland’s – Sofia – Nothing to report; Sofia did invite all candidates to come to Cabin Fever tomorrow 09/24/19 at Stag PDX and hang out with her if they would like. Gay Oregon’s – Daddy Robert & Flawless – Nothing to report; Flawless did inform all candidates that they are more than welcome to perform at Legacy on Friday nights at Henry’s Tavern. Just send her your music at least one-hour prior. Prince & Princess – Vicious & Envi – Nothing to report Emperor & Empress – Daniel & Kimberly – Nothing to report; Daniel wanted to thank everyone that came out last night 09/22/19 for Announcement of Candidates. He also wanted to thank all Monarch’s that showed up to participate in the photoshoot. Old Business: Request from Marty Davis to be allowed to come to Coronation and take photos for the Rose Court; due to medical expenses and things she would like to have her ticket for Coronation paid for by the Court. Vivica made a motion to allow Marty Davis into Coronation as the official photographer. 2nd by everyone, unanimous. Question was brought up that since the budget for Coronation has already been approved, Marty’s ticket would need to come out of the General Fund? Monica explained that no it can still come out of the Coronation Budget because a few people that were supposed to get comp’d tickets decided to buy their own tickets for the cause. Another question was asked if Marty would get an assigned seat? Answer was No, Marty will be moving around the room that night taking pictures and if she does need to sit, her walker has a fold down seat she can use, plus how many of us really sit in our assigned seats during Coronation. Reminder about Absentee Ballots – lots of questions at Announcement of Candidates on who can take an absentee ballot. Any sustaining member or Monarch of the Rose Court and take or request an absentee ballot. New Business: Envi sent in a request email requesting that she be excused from Eugene’s Investitures due to not being able to get off work. We did an E-Vote due to it being a timely matter, the E-Vote failed because not all board members voted by the time they needed to. Don Hood asked if it really mattered if we vote on it now since she has already missed it. Since Envi submitted the request in time and us as the Board failed to pass it due to not all votes being returned in time, she deserves an answer and a vote. Vivica made a motion to excuse Envi from Eugene Investitures due to work, 2nd by Richard, 8 Yes votes and 1 No vote, it passes. Reminder from Daniel to all Candidates that the candidates still need to buy their tickets to all Coronation Events, i.e. Awards Dinner, Out of Town Show, Coronation, Victory Brunch. Their application fee does not cover the cost to get into these events. KVP wanted to encourage everyone to buy tickets to not only Coronation but to the Out of Town Show and to Victory Brunch. We want to be profitable from all these events and we really do not want to go in the hole especially with this being the first year we are having Victory Brunch at the Host Hotel. Daddy Frank wanted to clarify something, years ago a group of “seasoned” monarchs got together and decided that they would like to every so often get together for a dinner during Coronation Time. Because at their age, the herd is getting thin and we don’t get to spend much time together otherwise. So, this year, they are hosting a dinner at Hobo’s after the Decade Celebration and before the Out of Town Show. This is not a Coronation Event, but everyone is welcome. This happens at Coronation time in Vancouver, Surrey, Seattle, Spokane and Portland. Candidates Presentations: Candidate #1 for Rose Emperor 43 – Dr Chance de Valmont Chance wanted to thank everyone, it has been an amazing campaign so far, ups, downs and all arounds. Each week will be a different color raffle ticket, each week we will start over. The drawing will take place each Sunday at CC Slaughters and we will be raffling off some jewelry, some artwork and other great things.     The Oregonian $258 million affordable housing bond will be a test for Portland (opinion) By Guest Columnist Bruce Stephenson July 5, 2016 In a historic pronouncement, the Portland City Council asked voters to approve a $258.4 million bond measure for affordable housing. If passed, it will set the foundation for a systematic response to the housing crisis. Since declaring a "housing state of emergency" in October, the City Council has allocated over $100 million to stay the emergency, and this final investment should still critics such as Joel Kotkin, who claims that the gentrification of minority neighborhoods is a racist mark against the "achingly politically correct city." Limiting suburban sprawl and investing in sustainability is Portland's downfall, Kotkin contends. His new book, "The Human City," offers affordable, laissez-faire Houston as a prototype, but it fails to mention that the displacement rate of African Americans in the historic Third Ward matches Portland's. Thousands of Houstonians also inhabit gated subdivisions on low-lying flood-prone land, an exclusionary, unsustainable landscape foreign to Portland. Portland is a definitive "knowledge city," according to analyst Richard Florida, where clustering population in urban centers is a key factor in innovation and economic growth. The booming high-tech sector exemplifies how specialized skills, creativity and abstract thinking can fuel profits. The good news is that capital is flowing into Portland; the problem is that markets do not respect equity. City planning is a paradoxical enterprise. In a capitalist society, where property rights and free enterprise are sacred, planners must set controls on development to procure the common welfare.
