Self-Guided Walking in the Cinque Terre and Porto No Trip Notes Current as of: October 30, 2019 - 13:11 Valid for departures: From October 1, 2019 to October 31, 2022 Self-Guided Walking in the Cinque Terre and Portono Trip Notes Ways to Travel: Self-Guided Holidays 7 Days Land only Trip Code: Destinations: Italy Min age: 10 W06CT Moderate Programmes: Walking & Trekking Trip Overview About sixty miles east of Genoa lies a corner of the Liguria region with a remarkably well-preserved landscape steeped in tradition. 'Cinque Terre' means ve lands; villages which are nestled high on cliffs or along deep inaccessible coves, with colourful houses facing the seafront. Each village offers its own olive oils, anchovies and Sciacchetrà liqueur (known as the 'Elixir of the Gods'). By day, you discover the beautiful peninsulas of Portono and Sestri Levante using well-marked walking trails; in the evening enjoy the sunsets over the Mediterranean. At a Glance 6 nights hotel, all rooms en suite 5 days centre based walking Moderate walking on a variety of paths Low altitude throughout Self-guided trip. Minimum age 10 years Trip Highlights Coastal and countryside walking among olive groves and vineyards The chic town of Porto no Boat trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Palmaria Island The serene village of Sestri Levante Is This Trip for You? Activity Level: 3 (Moderate) 5 days optional centre-based walking, low altitude throughout. This is a self-guided tour, so you can walk at your own pace (we recommend taking plenty of time to rest and enjoy the views!). Although some walks will get your pulse racing you will also have plenty of time to rest, admire the views and on many days you can also enjoy swim breaks. Over the course of the week, the terrain and type of path will vary from man made paved tracks and tarmac to forest trails. Some areas may be rocky underfoot with narrow, overgrown or exposed paths. Although the walks are not technically challenging, you do need to be steady on your feet. All walks take between 2 and 6 hours including lunch stops and require a moderate level of tness. Please note that, as on all of our walking trips, when the weather is wet some of the paths can be slippy. The steep sections on Palmaria Island have ropes to help with this. Public transport is recommended (the cost is not included in the trip) in order to reduce your carbon footprint. The transport timetables will be provided in your route notes so you can choose the bus or train time that suits you best. As this is a self-guided tour, there will be no group or tour leader and you are free to complete the walks at your own speed. You may nd our Fitness Training Guide a useful reference: https://www.breakaway-adventures.com/Breakaway_wt_fitness_training_guide.pdf Group As this is a self-guided tour there is no group and no leader. 1 CINQUE TERRE EXPERIENCES 2018 - Regular, sharing tours – Our on-site team has handpicked the best local experiences for your clients, offering a great variety that can satisfy every kind of traveler. The following tours are arranged by their thematic focus, recognizable by different colors. 2 FOOD & WINE The wine tour in Riomaggiore: meeting the winegrower, hiking through the vineyards, enjoy the wine tasting! Andrea, a young winemaker from Riomaggiore, follows the wine-growing traditions handed down over generations. He takes you on a unique and interesting wine tour. The tasting consists of two different wines offering you a complete new gustatory experience - very natural wines, produced respecting the vineyard and the earth, without the use of chemical products, sulfites and yeasts. The results are intense wines which, through their scents and flavors, will transmit you the special characteristics of the place where they have grown - rocks, sea, herbs… These are authentic wines that symbolize both past and future – because this is the way the ancestors produced the wine in the past, but wines rich in history and character will impress the future too. In the morning you take a bus and reach Andrea at the starting point and together you will walk on a little trail into his vineyard. This is a special panoramic place with a magnificent view over the steep Cinque Terre coast. Andrea will explain you his wine growing methods - respecting the vineyard and the earth, without the use of chemical products. Skillful and with sensitivity he combines modern methods with ancient equipment as the terra- cotta amphorae.

(linea Genova – La Spezia).

The Cinque Terre, the “Five Lands“ or the “Five Villages” (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) is famous all over the world, mainly thanks to its paths and walks which wind round the coast or reach the sanctuaries above each village. • Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre Welcome to the ItalianCoast Cinque Terre, which translates to “the five lands,” is one of the most dramatic sites along the Italian Rivera. Once brushed aside as a fly over destination, the five villages that comprise this medieval-era coast – Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore – are now a top vacation spot for anyone looking for an old-world Italian experience. The ancient villages, the first of which was founded 643 AD, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and were declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1997. Your colorful, coastal adventure begins with a flight into your designated airport, where ground transportation will whisk you away to become acquainted with your yacht and crew. Once guests have settled in, the real fun begins with the first stop on your luxury private cruise: Monterosso al Mare. The rugged terrain of this quiet seaside escape will leave all in awe. Whether you choose to spend your time admiring historic cas- tles or the lively, local churches; wandering the narrow streets while staring up at the vernacular, vibrant architecture; jumping into a popular swimming hole with the local; snorkeling reefs teeming with life; or simply shopping till you drop – you’ll find yourself wishing the adventure will never end! Monterosso al Mare You’ll find Monterosso al Mare located at the center of a natural gulf, which is protected by a small artificial reef. The village is divided into two distinctive parts: old town and new town, which are split by a single tunnel that was built in 1870.
