A los jamaicanos les encanta su estilo de vida tranquilo y sosegado. Cuando han pasado sólo dos semanas desde la conclusión de la Copa Oro en la que Ja- maica conquistó una segunda plaza memorable, se podría decir incluso que la fuerza de este país caribeño radica precisamente en esa filosofía vital basada en la tranquilidad. Pero, lógicamente, la calma y el sosiego no bastan por sí solos. Para proclamarse campeón de grupo superando a selecciones como Costa Rica y Canadá y eliminar después a Estados Unidos, la máxima favorita del certamen, hacen falta también cualidades en los aspectos táctico, técnico y físico. Winnie Schäfer nunca logró dar el salto a un gran club, pero el técnico ale- mán no tardó en percatarse de que su particular fórmula —basada en una com- binación de saber futbolístico e inteligencia social— podía darle muchas alegrías. La actitud de los jamaicanos ante la vida encandila al alemán. “Si preguntas a la gente cómo le va, te contestan ‘¡Fenomenal! ¡Fantás- tico!’. Nadie te dirá nunca que le va mal”, nos cuenta. Con esa misma actitud positiva es como Schäfer pone a jugar a sus Reg- gae Boyz. Sin embargo, el desarrollo del fútbol en Jamaica aún tiene un Wlargo camino por recorrer. El mayor éxito del país fue con diferencia la clasificación para la Copa Mundial de la FIFA Francia 1998™. Desde en- tonces, el combinado caribeño había vivido más bien una existencia es- pectral en el panorama futbolístico internacional. Winnie Schäfer se ha propuesto grandes cosas. “El Mundial de 1998 sigue aún en las cabezas de la gente. Pero, en el fútbol, 17 años son mu- chos. Por eso estamos trabajando para que los jamaicanos puedan ateso- rar nuevos recuerdos”, apunta. De cara a la competición preliminar para Rusia 2018, en la que Jamaica se cruzará en septiembre con Nicaragua, los preparativos previstos son de lo más intensos. “La disciplina, por ejemplo, funciona igual en todos los sitios. Si no andas con cuidado, los chicos se te suben a las barbas, ya sea en Alemania, en Tailandia o en el Real Madrid”. On the other hand, this research also represents my personal journey to understand better my role as a citizen, a man, a father and a husband, while covered by a given aura of otherness, always reminding me of my permanent foreignness in the country I decided to make my home. In this sense, this has been a personal journey to learn how to cope with my new ascribed identity as an alien (my ‘labelled forehead’) without losing my essence in the process, and without forgetting who I also am and have been.     SPORTS INDIA AND WORLD World Cup Cricket History The idea of organising a World Cup of cricket was mooted and agreed to in principle in 1971 when such a proposal was discussed at a meeting of the International Cricket Conference in London. However, due to various commitments the tournaments could not be staged until 1975 when the original plan of a South African team's visit to England fell through following opposition to the country's racial policy. England's Prudential Assurance Company came forward with sponsorship and for three consecutive years - 1975, 1979 and 1983, the one-day limited overs cricket tournament was held in England. It became famous as the Prudential Cup. In the first two tournaments, apart from the six full members of the International Cricket Conference (England, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, India and Pakistan), Sri Lanka, before being elevated to Test status in 1981, had joined East Africa in 1975 and Canada in 1979 (two top teams among the associate members) to complete the groups in the tournaments proper. The West Indies, under Clive Lloyd, not only won the first two tournaments in 1975 and 1979 but in true Calypso style they produced sparkling cricket and confirmed their unassailable supremacy in this game. India broke the West Indian stranglehold in 1983 to open a new chapter in the brief annals of this prestigious tournament. I like it to play football by myself, to watch it on television, but also to read articles about football. The opportunity to combine my love for football with a scientific research for my Bachelor Thesis, could not be better for me. During an orientating conversation about the topic for my Bachelor Thesis with my thesis mentor Jos Bijman, I mentioned that I was always interested in the management strategies of organizations. What kind of choices an organization makes, what kind of resources an organization uses, what an organization wants to achieve and its performances. Following closely this process in large organizations is something I like to do in my leisure time. My thesis mentor Jos Bijman asked for my hobbies and he mentioned that there was a possibility to combine my interests in the management strategies of organizations with my main hobby football. In this way the topic Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie was created. The Bachelor Thesis Management strategies of football clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie is executed in a qualitative research, using a literature study. This Thesis is written in the context of my graduation of the study Business-and Consumer Studies (specialization Business) at the Wageningen University and Research. From October 28 2019 until January 23 I have been working on the research and writing of my Thesis.
