Following the sad news that this newspaper’s founders - Emma Hunter and Victoria Williams - are moving on, we had feared that this would be our final special edition. However, we were delighted to learn last week that our friend and former Parish Councillor, Tina Royles, will be taking over this weekly, free paper from May 2nd. Tina will also take on these quarterly Tarporley Parish Council editions. We wish Tina well and would urge everyone in the village to support her as this precious village commodity enters a new era. Tarporley Parish Council Care Home Proposal Latest Liberty Properties - the company that wants to build a 65-bed ‘Nursing Care Facility’ and public car park in the centre of Tarporley - is hoping to submit a full planning application within the next few months. Following last year’s public consultation, a Cheshire West and Chester Heritage Officer has also offered feedback on the scheme, which would see land to the south of St Helen’s Parish Church being developed. Following a stipulation in the Tarporley Neighbourhood Plan about the need for car parking, the proposal includes a large public car park - with 85 spaces - in addition to a 23-space separate car park for the care home. Liberty Properties predict the ‘Class C2 Nursing Care Facility’, which would also offer dementia care, would provide 64 jobs.

He is first mentioned on a marriage license [Tattenhall parish records at the Cheshire Record Office, Chester, England] for his marriage to Rebecca Faulkner, daughter of William and Catherine Faulkner, also of Tattenhall, on September 13, 1767. His age on the license is given as 26, and hers as 32. Therefore they must have been born between that date in 1740/1741 and 1734/1735 [actually she was born 11 Aug 1734] respectively. John Willson’s death certificate shows that he was buried on 27 January 1816 at the age of 75 years (suggesting that he was born between ca. 24 January 1740 and 24 January 1741. The overlap of these two age indicators (age at marriage and age at death), presuming they are accurate, allows us to narrow down the possible range of his birth date to between 13 September 1740 and 24 January 1741. Baptismal records (Bishop’s Transcripts) exist only for 1741, not 1740, and do not show hisa birth. Therefore, if he was indeed born in Tattenhall, it was in late 1740. The marriage was by license rather than the more usual publication of “banns” (notices of intended marriage given three times in the parish church of each of the betrothed). A huge congratulations and thank you to all the teams who represented Chester at the Cheshire and Warrington Level 3 School Games this term. We have had a lot of success, with teams showing great determination, passion and respect in their events. A special mention must be made to the children from Waverton Primary School who took part in four competitions over two weeks. Also to Chester Catholic High for sending teams to three events, plus providing the amazing leaders for the tag rugby competition at Chester Rugby Club. PE and School Sport Premium Funding: please can all primary schools ensure that they update their website as the deadline has now passed to publish how you are planning to spend your funds and evidence the impact. We have a busy summer term ahead, if you want to enter any primary competitions, please do so via the Chester SSP website (www.chesterssp.co.uk) - please note that some events are already full. Playground Leaders Course Over the February half term, 27 children from years 5&6 gave up a day of their holidays to attend the Playground Leaders Training Course at Blacon High School. Here they learned about how to deliver playground games and activities to their peers and younger children in their school. The training was a mixture of practical and theory work, looking at the STEP principle and how to be a good leader. The children have now gone back to their schools confident and prepared to begin to help deliver playground games and activities.
