  • Solomon's Wisdom Is Not Philosophy; Rather, It Is an Ability to Perceive and to Describe the Simple, Godly Life That Leads to Happiness
PROVERBS A Description of The Secret Pathway to Happiness John David Clark, Sr. This book is dedicated to the young, who are precious in the sight of God and in the eyes of those who are like Him. It is not written as a substitute for the wonderful books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, but only to acquaint the young reader with some of their beauty and wisdom. Solomon’s Wisdom: The Secret Pathway to Happiness ISBN- - Second edition, 2010 copyright 1999, John Clark, Sr. SOLOMON’S WISDOM P. O. Box 99 Burlington, NC 27216-0099 visit these web sites: www.GoingtoJesus.com www.Isaiah58.com and for good music all day long, go to: www.SongsofRest.com INTRODUCTION You want to be happy; everybody does. When you as a newborn cried in your mother's arms, you cried because you wanted to be happy. And that same yearning for happiness drives you now to do whatever you do and whatever you say. We are all desperate travelers in this confusing and tormented world. Old and young, rich and poor, wise and foolish, we are all striving and yearning together from the moment of birth for happiness. That longing for happiness drives all people at all times to do whatever they do; it drives the treasure hunter as well as the thief, to risk his life for gold; it inspires the astronaut to circle the earth, and it motivates the lazy bum to beg for a piece of bread. The irrepressible human longing for happiness motivates men to go fishing, to sleep late, to study microbes, to play games or to do work, to invent new materials or to vandalize masterpieces, to love and to cherish or to hate and kill, to write books or to read them, to become martyrs or to conquer empires, to believe in God or to deny that He exists.

This new version is expanded from the most recent edition (2009) and contains even more hit and significant non-hit covers of Buddy Holly “solo” and Buddy Holly & The recordings ... as well as newly discovered Buddy Holly "salute" songs, interviews, and recorded historical artifacts that WDAM Radio has identified and acquired. View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by The University of Sydney: Sydney eScholarship Journals online DOROTHY GREEN MEMORIAL LECTURE Narrative Lives and Human Rights: Stolen Generation Narratives and the Ethics of Recognition KAY SCHAFFER, UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE Dorothy Green was a formidable figure in the field of Australian literature. I first met her twenty five years ago at a symposium in Sydney hosted by Geoffrey Sharp, the then editor of Arena. The idea for the gathering grew out of the pres- entation of a number of innovative papers that had been delivered to the first ASAL Conference, held at Monash University in 1978 that offered what then were emergent feminist and cultural studies perspectives. At the ASAL confer- ence, and later at the Sharp symposium, I presented a paper on Katharine Susannah Prichard, entitled “Of an End a New Beginning,” that utilized feminist, neo- marxist and psychobiographic tools to analyse the creative tension between Prichard’s biography, her Marxist politics and the marked Lawrentian tendencies in her fiction. Geoff later published it in Arena in 1979 (Iseman). It was my first published piece of critical writing in Australia. A number of (then) young (and now well-known) scholars whose work pio- neered Australian feminist and cultural studies, including film and popular cul- ture, had delivered papers at ASAL and were subsequently invited to the seminar in Sydney. Many of us worked at the intersections of literature, politics, philoso- phy and popular culture and came from interdisciplinary faculties in the CAEs, the Institutes of Technology and newer universities.

Rock the Halls with Bows of Holly 1 Part One: Stairway to Whatever 1. Rock the Halls with Bows of Holly “The levee ain’t dry, And the music didn’t die, ‘Cause Buddy Holly lives Every time we play rock and roll.” —Cricket bandmate Sonny Curtis, 1980 This is a book mostly about Buddy Holly. And his Crickets. The world knows Buddy as the martyred hero of “American Pie,” Don McLean’s #1 rockin’ 1971 saga of dry levees, roaring Chevys, and a golden-age America when rock was young. Long before leaded Zeppelin dreams soared aloft to the stars on ‘Stairways to Heaven,’ rock and roll first honored lean Texan Buddy Holly with his fiery Fender Stratocaster and magic voice. Holly and his rockin’ Crickets brought 1957-59 America and the English-speaking world its first torrid affair with a genuine rock and roll band. After Elvis This’ll Be The Day 2 Presley’s vocals, Chuck Berry’s lead guitar and teen lyrics, and dozens of dynamic drummers perfo- rated 50s quietude with new molten music, Buddy’s electric guitar and bass-powered rock band the Crickets gave us our first taste of rock band glory. Buddy also jump-started the Beatles and Bob Dylan. And yes, of course, the Fab Four owe the Crickets for their style, their gung-ho gusto, and their name. By now, the Beatles’ reputation as premier rock band has never been higher. This’ll Be the Day is about the world’s first and the world’s greatest rock and roll band.
