Namuli, located in Zambezia Province, Mozambique. The project commenced in 2011 with a Phase I reconnaissance trip to Mt Namuli. Phase II took place in May of 2014, when an 18-person international team explored Malawi’s Mt. Mulanje and Mozambique’s Mt. Namuli, conducting scientific- and conservation-focused fieldwork, using rock climbing to access previously unexplored habitats, and capturing media for a forthcoming film. Phase II yielded a biodiversity assessment by the Lost Mountain Science team, led by Dr. Flavia Esteves, and an assessment of potential for an integrated conservation project, performed by Mozambican development organization, LUPA. The biodiversity assessment built on past assessments to further establish that Namuli is an inselberg of critical biological significance in the Eastern Afromontane bioregion due to its distinctive flora and fauna. The global food price crises of 2008 and 2010 underscored the mounting challenge of meeting rapidly increasing food demand in the face of increasingly scarce land and water resources. The twin scourges of poverty and hunger quickly resurfaced as high-level policy concerns, partly because of food price riots and mounting insurgencies fomented by contesta- tion over rural resources. Meanwhile, agriculture’s heavy footprint on natural resources motivates heated environmental debates about climate change, water and land use, biodiversity conservation and chemical pollution. Agricultural technological change, especially associated with the introduc- tion of genetically modified organisms, also introduces unprecedented ques- tions surrounding intellectual property rights and consumer preferences regarding credence (i.e., unobservable by consumers) characteristics. Similar new agricultural commodity consumer behavior issues have emerged around issues such as local foods, organic agriculture and fair trade, even motivating broader social movements. Public health issues related to obesity, food safety, and zoonotic diseases such as avian or swine flu also have roots deep in agri- cultural and food policy. And agriculture has become inextricably linked to energy policy through biofuels production. Meanwhile, the agricultural and food economy is changing rapidly throughout the world, marked by contin- ued consolidation at both farm production and retail distribution levels, elongating value chains, expanding international trade, and growing reliance on immigrant labor and information and communications technologies.

Cave temples and monasteries are found in many parts of India, but the largest and most famous artificial caves were excavated from Western Deccan region. It was constructed during the regime of the Satavahana rulers and their successors. Timeline: This architecture had three definite phases; The earliest dating from the 2nd century BC to 2nd century AD The second from the 5th to 7th century The last from the 7th to 10th century Significance: Rock-cut architecture occupies a very important place in the history of Indian Architecture as they present the most spectacular piece of ancient Indian art specimen. Most of the rock-cut structures were closely associated with various religions and religious activities. Numerous caves were excavated by the Buddhist monks for prayer and residence purposes. The rock-cut architecture differs from traditional buildings in many ways. It is more similar to sculpture than architecture, as structures were produced by cutting out solid rocks. The architectures are classified into Rock-Cut Caves and Rock-Cut Temple Architecture. 1/7 Rock-Cut Caves Mauryan period: The earliest rock-cut caves in India are attributed to the Mauryan period, mainly to Ashoka (273-232 BC) and his grandson Dasharath. Caves in this period were generally used as viharas, i.e. living quarters, by the Jain and Buddhist monks.
