Did You Know…

 Munster High School has the record for most sectional championships with 45, including 44 consecutive since 1977.

 Don’t play Carmel, Park Tudor, or Brebeuf in the state finals. These 3 schools have a combined record of 22 - 3 in the State Championship Title Matches. By the way, North Central is another you do not want to be matched against….they are 12 - 3 in State Championship matches.

 From 1975-1981, the state finals consisted of individuals representing various schools competing in a state singles tournament and doubles tournament. Those schools were credited with a state finals appearance if they had a singles player or doubles team competing in the state finals tournament. Beginning in 1982, the state finals tournament changed to a format of four full teams competing head-to-head for the state championship. In 2010, the tournament format changed adding four more teams for an eight-team state finals field.

 Leah Barnes of Canterbury High School holds the record of most wins in a career, compiling a 108-3 record during her tenure.

 In 2019, Claire Kocielski completed her high school perfect high school career. Her overall high school record is 101 – 0. By the way, she won her final match, in a traditional third set tie-break, during the team state championship match. Cathedral won the match 3-2 over Park Tudor. Meg Coleman(Cathedral) also won, in a traditional third set tie-break, for the Irish in a 4-hour match. A few hours earlier, Coleman won a 3rd set match during the team’s semi-final match vs Carmel. What an unbelievable day of tennis!

 Starting in the 1981-82 school year, the state tourney format changed to conduct separate tournaments for teams and singles players.

 The ICGSA represents each of the ten girls' sports in Indiana. There are over 1300 Indiana coaches representing all levels of coaching.

 The 2020 ICGSA Senior North South All-Star Cup did not take place on the court. The players were honored through a video tribute.

SMASH CANCER

The #SmashCancer charity tennis matches continued to thrive in the fourth year of the program’s existence in Indiana high school tennis. These events started in the Spring of 2012 and involve two or more schools coming together on the tennis courts to raise money for various cancer organizations. Players from both teams put aside the rivalry and wear #SmashCancer t-shirts in a dozen different colors to recognize those who have or are fighting multiple types of cancer.

Since 2012, Indiana high school tennis teams have combined to raise at least $40,000 in the fight against cancer.

Delta and Yorktown, the co-founders of #SmashCancer, held their fourth annual event this spring and sold a record of nearly 1,200 t-shirts, which helped raise approximately $5,000 for their charities. Additional events were held in many communities, including Gibson Southern vs. Princeton, Marion vs. Madison Grant, Centerville vs. Richmond, the Jasper Invitational, Lebanon vs. Western Boone, Fishers vs. Hamilton Southeastern, Concord vs. Northwood, Plymouth vs. Bremen, Fremont vs. Angola, the Hancock County tournament, Arsenal Tech vs. Bishop Chatard, Cathedral vs. Westfield, and Homestead vs. Canterbury.

Coaches from any school interested in starting a #SmashCancer in the future are invited to contact Delta Coach Tim Cleland at 765-730-3288 or [email protected] for information.
