Here is a description of the different members of your health care team. Use this handout to write down their names and phone numbers. The James Cancer Hospital is a teaching hospital. Your health care team may include staff that is in training. Staff may rotate when there is a “change in service” which means you may have another doctor who will provide your care when this change happens. Health Care What They Do Names and Numbers Team Members A doctor who directs your treatment and coordinates your Attending Physician care with other doctors and team members. A doctor who is training to Fellow become a specialist. A doctor who is in medical Resident or Intern training. A person still in medical school Medical Student who is supervised by a doctor. A healthcare provider with Nurse Practitioner advanced training who may (NP)/Physician do procedures and prescribe Assistant (PA) medicine. Nurses A nurse plans and directs your (RN or LPN) nursing care. Nurses provide care and teach you how to care Wears navy blue or for yourself. white scrubs Patient Care A case manager who helps Resource Manager coordinate your care when you (PCRM) leave the hospital. Health Care What They Do Names and Numbers Team Members Patient Care Associate (PCA) or Student Nurse A PCA or SNA help the nurse Associate (SNA) take care of you. Wears emerald green scrubs Registered Dietitian A dietitian and diet tech helps (RD) and Dietetic with your nutrition, and food Technician choices. A chaplain or clergy is available 24 hours, 7 days a week, to Chaplain/Clergy offer spiritual care, emotional support, prayer and other religious rituals. Consulting A doctor who is a specialist Physician or and provides advice on your Specialist treatment. Clinical Nurse A nurse with advanced training Specialist (CNS) who may help with your care. Clinical Study or Helps to coordinate your care Nurse Coordinator or monitor research studies. Enterostomal A nurse with special training in Therapist wound and ostomy care. A nurse that manages the Nurse Manager nursing staff and care provided to you. Works with your doctor to Palliative Care help manage your pain and Team symptoms. The Patient Experience Patient Department can help you with Representative any concerns or questions you may have during your visit. Prepares and provides Pharmacist or education on medicines for Pharmacy Tech you. Wears grey scrubs Respiratory Therapist that may help you Therapist with breathing problems and takes care of oxygen Wears royal blue equipment. scrubs The social worker can help you and your family with concerns Social Worker such as your care after your hospital stay, coping or finding resources to meet your needs. Health care students may help Student Interns care for you and are supervised by your health care team. Transport Staff Staff that takes you to test and procedure areas when you are Wears khaki scrubs in the hospital. Staff that answers calls and Unit Clerical requests for the nursing unit. Associate (UCA) This person answers when you use your call light. Environmental Services Staff that clean your room each day during your hospital stay.
