The current status of the inland waters ichthyofauna of Turkey is revised, and an updated checklist of the freshwater fishes is presented. A total of 368 fish species live in the inland waters of Turkey. Among these, 3 species are globally extinct, 5 species are extinct in Turkey, 28 species are non-native and 153 species are considered as endemic to Turkey. We recognise pronounced species richness and a high degree of endemism of the Turkish ichthyofauna (41.58%). Orders with the largest numbers of species in the ichthyofauna of Turkey are the Cypriniformes 247 species), Perciformes (43 species), Salmoniformes (21 species), Cyprinodontiformes (15 species), Siluriformes (10 species), Acipenseriformes (8 species) and Clupeiformes (8 species). At the family level, the Cyprinidae has the greatest number of species (188 species; 51.1% of the total species), followed by the Nemacheilidae (39), Salmonidae (21 species), Cobitidae (20 species), Gobiidae (18 species) and Cyprinodontidea (14 species).

  • Revision of Parasitic Helminths Reported in Freshwater Fish from Turkey with New Records
Transylv. Rev. Syst. Ecol. Res. 16.1 (2014), "The Wetlands Diversity" 1 REVISION OF PARASITIC HELMINTHS REPORTED IN FRESHWATER FISH FROM TURKEY WITH NEW RECORDS Ahmet ÖKTENER * * Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policy, Livestock Research Station, Department of Fisheries, Çanakkale Street km 7, Bandirma, Balikesir, Turkey, TR-10200, [email protected] DOI: 10.1515/trser-2015-0001 KEYWORDS: Turkey, freshwater, checklist, revision, helminths, fish. ABSTRACT This new checklist is an update of helminths of freshwater fish from Turkey. The last publication of a checklist of helminth parasites of freshwater fish in Turkey was over 11 years ago (Öktener, 2003), and there have been a number of new records. This update includes additional records and allows for the correction of errors and omissions that were present in the preceding version. The revision literature indicated the occurrence of 123 parasite species which included 60 monogeneans, 20 digeneans, 20 cestodes, 11 nematodes, seven acanthocephalans, five annelids from 71 different wild fish (64 native, four transitional, three introduced fish) species from freshwater in Turkey. Parasites not identified to species level are listed separately, and not included in the resulting comments, because of reporting different host species. Cyprinidae, with 50 species, is the dominant family among the examined fish with regard to species diversity.

Turkish Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences 7: 19-22 (2007) Distribution of Ligula intestinalis (L.) in Turkey Deniz İnnal1,*, Nevin Keskin1, Füsun Erk’akan1 1 University of Hacettepe, Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, 06800, Beytepe, Ankara, Turkey * Corresponding Author: Tel.: +90 242 4312424.; Fax: +90 242 4312474 Received 02 January 2006 E-mail: [email protected] Accepted 27 October 2006 Abstract In the present study, besides identifying host fish species and water resources in which it is reported that an important cestode species, Ligula intestinalis, exists as endoparasite in fish, inhabiting Turkish waters; our findings are given as new records. Key words: Ligula intestinalis, distribution, host records, Turkey. Introduction Materials and Methods In Turkey, the biological productivity of lakes The data, given in this study, were presented by and rivers, mostly, is up to the conditions of nature scanning the resources that were discovered thanks to and controlled production of aquaculture products for scientific researches carried out in the inland waters economic targets has not been realized yet. As well as of Turkey and published. The new species infected fishery studies carried out in natural inland water with Ligula intestinalis given as new records were resources, recently artificial water resources, which observed by authors in the land studies (from 1995 till have provided many benefits, have been installed. 2005) which consist of host fish and locations and Generally, as these systems have fish fauna in their years. The cestodes were identified according to natural structure, new fishery fields for different aims Chubb et al. (1987). are created thanks to these studies (Innal, 2004).
