REDISCOVER Downtown Volume IV, 2013 A Peek At What’s Happening Downtown Those of you who have been following closely know there is a lot happening in downtown Las Vegas, where an urban renaissance is fully underway! Here is a pictorial sampling of a few of the over 70 projects either recently completed or currently under development downtown. Several new places have opened in the Fremont East Entertainment District. These include Park on Fremont (pictured to the left) on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street. Next-door is a new Radio City Pizzeria. Both opened this March. A topping out ceremony was held in late March for the $35 million, 11-story Federal Justice Tower, currently being built on Las Vegas Boulevard next to the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse. This halfway point marks the phase where the facade will be placed on the building and internal construction will begin. The 140,000-square- foot, Class A office development will house the executive and administrative offices of four federal government agencies. Approximately 300 employees will work in this building. In addition, a total of over 450 local construction workers are expected to be employed in building this facility. The estimated completion date is December 2013. A Peek Around Downtown, continued… Rachel’s Kitchen is the first retail operation that has opened on the ground floor of the Ogden residential tower in downtown off Las Vegas Boulevard. Opened this past March, the 2,500-square- foot restaurant serves an assortment of salads, sandwiches, pasta, burgers, wraps, smoothies, fresh squeezed juices and more. Breakfast items are offered all day. Beer, wine and champagne are served. Plans are for more retail operations to open soon at the Ogden. West Las Vegas residents now have another nearby full-service grocery store to shop at since the opening of a Dollar General Market. Located at the intersection of Martin L. King and Lake Mead boulevards, this $4 million, 21,000-square-foot operation opened in January 2013. The development created 40 permanent positions and generated 250 construction jobs. Two new dining locations have opened up at the Shoppes At Lewis, located conveniently across from the downtown Regional Justice Center. Get your java on, as well as enjoy smoothies, breakfast and lunch items at Moxie Java Café. Another lunchtime option is Anthony’s Pizza, which is located next door. Both opened in February 2013 Promoted by developers as “an urban mall,” the Shoppes At Lewis offer17,000 square feet of retail, law and bail bond offices, as well as a food court that features outdoor seating. The food court will include a west coast franchise called Casa Rosa Mexican, Kevin’s 1950s Diner, Jury Room Food and Spirits and others. Tenants will open at various times throughout 2013.
