Wind Chimes Wind Chimes 8Dio WIND CHIMES WIND CHIMES 8DIO WIND CHIMES Produced by T. B. Folmann Welcome to 8DIO's Wind Chimes library Wind chimes are chimes constructed from suspended tubes, rods or other objects and are often made of metal or wood. Wind chimes are usually hung outside of a building or house and are intended to be played by the wind. Sound can be produced when the tubes or rods come in contact with a suspended central clapper, in the form of a ball or horizontal disk, or each other. Wind chimes may be used to observe changes in wind direction, depending on where they are hung. The 8DIO wind chime collection is made from a selection of different wind chimes, however sampled in detail so the user can control the amount of chimeniness and use them as percussive instruments. We recorded both big metal wind chimes, small tiny triangle wind chimes and hollow wooden chimes. Note: Free Kontakt Player will only work for 30 minutes with this product. Full version required to remove this restriction. MANUAL INSTALLATION If you have had any issues using our automatic installer. Please using the following manual installation procedure. We Use Winrar (version 3.80 or later) or other compatible program to un-compress the “8DIO_Wind_Chimes.rar” file into its own folder in your sample library directory. Make sure to preserve the included folder structure. This is usually done by selecting the “extract to'...” option in Winrar or UnrarX. Here’s a link to winrar for PC: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html Here’s a link to UnRarX for OSX: http://www.unrarx.com/ You should now be able to open and play the .nki files. Be aware that all of our .nki files are compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 3 or Kontakt 4 only. Note: The Free Kontakt Player and any bundled Kontakt or Kompakt Players that come included with other software, hardware or built into other sample libraries won't be able to load this library. You may be able to run the library for a 30 minute “demo” period, but the full retail version of Kontakt is required for full use. However, since our wave directories are open, you can translate the patches into whatever format you like. There are a few conversion utilities available that can make the translation process much easier. 2 Programming Notes: Wind Chime Patches The library is divided into four main groups, namely metal WIND CHIMES bass wind chimes, metal treble wind chimes, wooden metal chimes and a master patch containing all the strike/ 8DIO staccato articulations (x 10 round robin). The bass metal chime is made from a series of more heavy metallic bars (see picture on previous page). The have a reasonably good sustain, so we recorded those on top of the traditional FX/glissando patches. The patches also includes X 10 round robin patch of staccato notes. The trebly metal chime is made our of tiny metal bars (see picture on the right). The patch includes the normal FX/glissanso, but also includes x 10 round robin patch of staccato notes. The wooden chimes (see picture down right corner) includes the normal FX/glissanso, but also includes x 10 round robin patch of staccato notes. In addition the library a bonus group of convolution reverbs. The library contains wet patches utilizing our custom convolution reverbs,.     Core Instrumentation of the “Typical” American Community Concert Band: An Approach to Scoring Guidelines for Composers and Arrangers Findings based on a 2012 Online survey by Composer/Conductor David Avshalomov, D.M.A 1 Approach In early 2012, after extensive observation of online email threads around the practical challenges of presenting concerts with community bands, the author decided to create and run an open online survey with the goal of gathering a sampling of reasonably reliable statistical information about the “typical” core instrumentation of a community concert band in the US. The definition of community concert band used here begins by distinguishing it from a full- instrumentation concert band or symphonic wind ensemble having all the “outlier/outsize” instruments and generally carrying only one (or perhaps at most two) players per part except for Bb clarinets. In the US these full bands are almost exclusively conservatory, university, college, community college, or advanced/large high school ensembles. Few professional concert bands exist in the US. The definition of community concert band here also excludes marching bands—school, municipal, or private—as these too have a separate and distinct instrumentation profile. Although there are some community concert bands that have fairly full instrumentation, initial observations from the survey results confirm that most, if not all, have what could be characterized as significant gaps by comparison with the “full” symphonic wind ensemble. They also often have much heavier doublings in certain common sections such as flutes and clarinets. GOAL: The intention of the survey was to draw a rough line around a “safe” core scoring, and additionally to define tentative guidelines for the inclusion of instruments outside that line, for composers and arrangers who wish to serve the community concert band population with music targeted to such groups’ strengths, not their weaknesses.

As such we are comfortable in trusting their recommendation and expertise. Conceptually all Jeans ‘n Classics productions are designed to feature the sound of the orchestra and as such the band and the orchestra should be equally sharing the musical picture as opposed to the orchestra being mixed into the back ground. The following are simply guidelines.
