VESTING PRIESTS Reverend Michael Lane Gregory Alberts (Please remain standing for the Bishop’s Blessing with the Book of Reverend Dindo Billote Brian Geary the Gospels) Reverend Barry Cole Thomas Logue LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST RITE OF ORDINATION CALLING OF THE CANDIDATES THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS The candidates to be ordained deacon are called by the Deacon. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES HOLY, HOLY, HOLY The candidates are then presented to the Bishop by Reverend Steven Borello, Diocese of Joliet Vocation Director, who testifies to their worthiness for the MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION diaconate. ELECTION BY THE BISHOP GREAT AMEN The Bishop chooses the candidates for the office of deacon. COMMUNION RITE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE LORD’S PRAYER After the Bishop says “Relying on the help of the Lord God and our savior Jesus Christ, we choose these, our brothers, for the Order of the Diaconate”, all present respond: LAMB OF GOD THANKS BE TO GOD. COMMUNION HOMILY All sit while the Bishop gives a homily. He begins with the text of the scripture readings and then speaks to the RECESSIONAL HYMN people about the office of deacon and its meaning. LAYING ON OF HANDS AND PRAYER OF ORDINATION The candidates go to the Bishop and kneel before him. The Bishop lays his hands on the candidates head, in silence. Following the imposition of hands the Bishop prays the Prayer of Ordination. AFTER THE HOMILY INVESTITURE WITH STOLE AND DALMATIC PROMISE OF THE ELECT Priest-concelebrant, chosen by the newly ordained, vest them with the deacon stole and dalmatic. The candidates stand before the Bishop who questions them about their resolve to perform the duties of the diaconate. The Bishop also speaks to them and inquires about their intention to commit to permanent celibacy. HANDING OF THE BOOK OF GOSPELS Vested now as deacons, the newly ordained once again go to the Bishop and kneel before him. The Bishop places PROMISE OF OBEDIENCE the Book of Gospels in the hands of the newly ordained. The candidates go to the Bishop, and kneeling before him places their joined hands between those of the Bishop promising obedience and respect to their Diocesan Bishop and his successors. FRATERNAL KISS The Bishop then gives the kiss of peace to the deacons. LITANY OF SUPPLICATION All stand. The Bishop invites the people to pray. The candidates then prostate themselves; the assembly stands for the praying of the Litany of the Saints. .
