BACKGROUND Punjab has achieved outstanding growth in agriculture, with rice and wheat particularly as major contributors to national food security. Recentty, problems relating to over-exploitation of natural resources such as soil and water have become a cause of serious concern. There has been a decline in the real farm income and near stagnation in agricultural growth. Hence, a policy framework which improves productivity, profitabalty and sustainability of farming is the only way forward to accelerate growth. The Agriculture Summit is being organized to'catalyze the process of implwing the sustainability and economic viability of farming. This is an Agro-technology and Business event to transform'agricultureftonr localized to globalized, production-driven to market-driven and profitable. lt is expected that,more than 300 reputed national and international companies/ exhibitors wili participate in the event under exclusive industry and sector specific pavilions. ln addition, more than 1 lakh visitors comprising of farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, faculty, students and other stakeholders from aiross the country are expecled to participate in the summit. The Progressive Punjab Agriculture Summit 2014 would also shovrcase the latest innovations and new technologies and would offer opportunities to do business, as well as interact and network with farmers, agriculture and related companies, PSUs and entrepreneurs from various countries & states. PROGRAMME The 4-day summit will start with a Kissan Sammelan on 16rn February wherein all the stakeholders involved with agricultural development shall participate and lay down the agenda for discussion. This will be followed by a daylong seminar on "Punjab Agriculture: Challenges and Way fonivard" wherein there will be exchange of current experiences and emerging opportunities in the sector. This will be followed by two days of specific technical sessions wherein the stakeholders shall discuss different aspects of the agricultural development process with respect to identified key areas.
