In fact, that is no longer just a question of environmental protection and ecological awareness, but along with it some other important themes are imposed: sustainability, economic growth, energy efficiency and energy security. Serbia is one of the countries of Southeastern Europe where climate change is evident, and its manifestations are more frequent and intense. As the consequences of climate change in Serbia in recent years the floods are more intense, landslides and erosion are more active, wind gusts are stronger, periods of drought are more frequent and longer and extreme climate events affect both urban as well as rural areas. In order to plan the sustainable development in areas vulnerable to climate change and, on the other hand, to reduce the effects of global warming and climate change in Serbia it is necessary to adopt and implement new strategies and laws, respecting the already adopted international conventions, declarations and strategies as well as national legislation. Key words: climate change, strategies, legislation, Serbia. Ljiljana Brašanac-Bosanac, Institute of Forestry, Kneza Viseslava 3, Belgrade, Serbia e-mail: [email protected] * The research is financed by the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, Project TR 31070 “The development of technological procedures in forestry with a view to an optimum forest cover realisation“ (2011-2014). Translation: Dragana Popović 7 nameću i druge bitne teme: održivost, ekonomski rast, energetska efikasnost i energetska bezbednost. 1. INTRODUCTION Southeast Europe is among the world regions that are highly sensitive to climate change (IPCC, 2007; IPCC, 2009, UNECE, 2007; SEEFCCA, 2012). More frequent extreme climate events such as floods, droughts, strong wind gusts and very cold periods with large amounts of snow, are a good opportunity to test the vulnerability of areas in Serbia to climate change. According to Popovic, T. et al. (2009) estimates based on climate modeling in moderate scenarios indicate that the annual temperature in Serbia will rise 2.6° C by the end of the century. Warming will not be evenly distributed throughout the year: summers will be 3.5° C warmer than they are now as well as autumns 2.2° C, winters 3.2° C and the springs 2.5° C warmer than they are now. It is expected that the heat waves will be increased in frequency, intensity and duration, while the projections for the number of frosty and icy days say that they will continue to decline. According to Brasanac-Bosanac, Lj., Cirkovic Mitrovic, T. (2013) trend of changes of mean annual air temperature and trend of changes of air temperature during growing season in Serbia

  • Study on Bioindicators, Inorganic and Organic Micropollutants in Selected Bioindicator Organisms in the River Danube and Its Tributaries
INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DANUBE RIVER Study on Bioindicators, Inorganic and Organic Micropollutants in Selected Bioindicator Organisms in the River Danube and its tributaries November 2000 Prepared by Institute for Water Pollution Control, VITUKI Plc., In co-operation with the Secretariat of the ICPDR Preface VITUKI Plc, Budapest, Hungary, performed the Study on Bioindicators, Inorganic and Organic Micropollutants in Selected Bioindicator Organism in the River Danube and its tributaries in co- operation with the Secretariat of the ICPDR in Vienna. It was a follow-up activity to the UNEP/OCHA Balkan Task Force Mission, which investigated the environmental impacts of the Kosovo conflict in FRY in 1999. The major aim of the Study on Bioindicators was to investigate the accumulation of organic and inorganic micropollutants in sediments and biota and to analyze the macrozoobenthos in the Danube reach impacted by the Kosovo conflict. The Study was financially supported by the governments of Germany and Austria and organized by the Secretariat of the ICPDR. The sampling mission was carried out on 17-23 July 2000 by the VITUKI team with the kind support of Yugoslavian authorities. The samples were analyzed in VITUKI and VUVH, Bratislava, Slovakia. The actual report was prepared by Dr. Béla CSÁNYI (Project Manager). The findings, interpretations and conclusions of the Study contribute to mapping of the quality status of the Danube reach, which has been excluded from the regular monitoring activities of the ICPDR (Transnational Monitoring Network) until now. Abstract Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level.
