Ćwierć wieku temu powstał Park Narodowy Gór Stołowych. Utworzony został przede wszystkim z myślą o ochronie krajobrazu gór płytowych i unikalnych form skalnych, ale do nadania najwyższej rangi ochrony – parku narodowego – bez wątpienia przyczyniła się też obecność torfowisk górskich, ginących gatunków i zbiorowisk roślin oraz ende- micznych lub rzadkich gatunków zwierząt. Od 25 lat Park Narodowy chroni przyrodę Gór Stołowych jako całość, jako jeden złożony górski ekosystem. Ochrona ta polega nie tylko na konserwatorskim zachowaniu status quo, lecz obejmuje szereg aktywnych działań, na czele z długofalową przebudową drzewostanów, ukształtowanych przez wieloletnią gospodarkę leśną nastawioną na pozyskanie drewna świerkowego. Jednak misją parku narodowego jest nie tylko ochrona dziedzictwa przyrodniczego, ale też wspieranie badań nad zjawiskami i procesami przyrodniczymi, upowszechnianie wiedzy o przyrodzie w jej najcenniejszych enklawach, oraz zrównoważone turystyczne udostępnianie walorów krajobrazowych i przyrodniczych. Ćwierć wieku istnienia PNGS to również dwadzieścia pięć lat pracy ludzi związanych z Parkiem zawodowo, profesjonalnie lub emocjonalnie. Jubileusz 25-lecia PNGS tworzy właściwą perspektywę do oceny efektów powołania Parku Narodowego – dla samej przyrody, dla nauki i wiedzy o przyrodzie, oraz dla ludzi, którzy w Górach Stołowych żyją, pracują lub je odwiedzają w poszukiwaniu natury, piękna, zdrowia lub wypoczynku. Monografia „Góry Stołowe – przyroda i ludzie” podejmuje próbę podsumowania współczesnej wiedzy o zasobach przyrodniczych PNGS, która nieprawdopodobnie zwięk- szyła się od momentu powstania Parku i nadal dynamicznie się rozwija dzięki kolejnym pokoleniom badaczy-pasjonatów, kolejnym projektom badawczym, ale też dzięki przy- chylności instytucji finansujących badania i działania ochronne w PNGS. Niniejsze opra- cowanie próbuje podkreślić aspekty, w których istnienie Parku Narodowego przyczyniło się do ochrony lub restytucji walorów przyrodniczych, ale nie unika też wskazywania dalszych niezbędnych działań, w odpowiedzi na nierozwiązane dotąd problemy lub nowe wyzwania. Niniejsza książka eksponuje też edukacyjną i popularyzatorską misję Parku Narodowego, w której realizacji pracownicy Parku mają niebagatelne osiągnięcia. Mamy nadzieję, że monografia „Góry Stołowe – przyroda i ludzie” będzie użytecznym źródłem nowoczesnej i profesjonalnej informacji dla wszystkich, którzy pragną wiedzieć więcej o Górach Stołowych – perle Sudetów, która jak magnes przyciąga rzesze przy- rodników i turystów z całej Polski i Europy. mgr inż. Symondson3 1 National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, 2 Conchological Society of Great Britain & Ireland, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, 3 Cardiff School of Biosciences, Cardiff University, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom Abstract The slugs of Britain and Ireland form a well-studied fauna of economic importance. They include many widespread European species that are introduced elsewhere (at least half of the 36 currently recorded British species are established in North America, for example). To test the contention that the British and Irish fauna consists of 36 species, and to verify the identity of each, a species delimitation study was conducted based on a geographically wide survey. Comparisons between mitochondrial DNA (COI, 16S), nuclear DNA (ITS-1) and morphology were investigated with reference to interspecific hybridisation. Species delimitation of the fauna produced a primary species hypothesis of 47 putative species. This was refined to a secondary species hypothesis of 44 species by integration with morphological and other data. Thirty six of these correspond to the known fauna (two species in Arion subgenus Carinarion were scarcely distinct and Arion (Mesarion) subfuscus consisted of two near-cryptic species). However, by the same criteria a further eight previously undetected species (22% of the fauna) are established in Britain and/or Ireland. Although overlooked, none are strictly morphologically cryptic, and some appear previously undescribed. Most of the additional species are probably accidentally introduced, and several are already widespread in Britain and Ireland (and thus perhaps elsewhere).

All previously known Bulgarian slugs from the Arionidae, Milacidae, Limacidae and Agriolimacidae families have been discussed in this paper. It is based on many years of individual field research, examination of all accessible private and museum collections as well as on critical analysis of the published data. The taxa from families to species are sup­ plied with synonymy, descriptions of external morphology, anatomy, bionomics, distribution and all records from Bulgaria. It also includes the original key to all species. The illustrative material comprises 118 drawings, including 116 made by the author, and maps of localities on UTM grid. The occurrence of 37 slug species was ascertained, including 1 species (Tandonia pirinia- na) which is quite new for scientists. The occurrence of other 4 species known from publications could not bo established. Basing on the variety of slug fauna two zoogeographical limits were indicated. One separating the Stara Pianina Mountains from south-western massifs (Pirin, Rila, Rodopi, Vitosha. Mountains), the other running across the range of Stara Pianina in the^area of Shipka pass. INTRODUCTION Like other Balkan countries, Bulgaria is an area of Palearctic especially interesting in respect to malacofauna. So far little investigation has been carried out on molluscs of that country and very few papers on slugs (mostly contributions) were published. Two-choice experiments on prey preferences of a generalist predator Pterostichus melanarius, and five species of slug prey, were conducted in the laboratory. Different preferences of P. melanarius for each of the slug species are described. They are interpreted as the outcome of differing slug species-specific defence mechanisms. The influence of hunger level, temperature, day/light period, condition of slugs and beetles, weight of slugs and beetles, and the sex of beetles were controlled experimentally or statistically. The order of slug species preference for predation by P. melanarius was: Deroceras reticulatum (Agriolimacidae), Malacolimax tenellus, Lehmania marginata (Limacidae), Arion distinctus and A. subfuscus (Arionidae). Efficiency of slugs’ species- specific defence mechanisms reflected their phylogeny. Defence mechanisms of slugs from the superfamily Arionoidea were signifi- cantly more effective at deterring an attack of non-specialised ground beetles than the defence mechanisms of slugs from Limacoidea superfamily. P. melanarius significantly preferred Agriolimacidae to Limacidae, and Limacidae to Arionidae. Slug spe- cies was the strongest factor influencing prey preferences of P. melanarius amongst slug prey. Malacol., 47 : 9-22 (1/2011) Nuove segnalazioni di limacce per la malacofauna bresciana (Gastropoda: Arionidae, Milacidae, Limacidae,Agriolimacidae) Gianbattista Nardi Riassunto Nell’ultimo decennio sono state studiate le limacce appartenenti alle famiglie Arionidae, Milacidae, Limacidae, Agriolimacidae (Mollusca, Pulmonata), entro i confini della provincia di Brescia. L’analisi del materiale raccolto, effettuato attraverso l’esame del tratto genitale, ha permesso di individuare alcune specie sino ad oggi mai segnalate per l’area di studio: Milax nigricans (Philippi, 1836), Tandonia budapestensis (Hazay, 1880), Tandonia simrothi (P. Hesse 1923) e Malacolimax tenellus (O.F. Müller, 1774) rappresentano una novità per il bresciano; Arion (Cariarion) circumcriptus Johnston, 1828, e Deroceras planarioides (Simroth 1910) sono addirittura nuove per l’intera regione Lombardia. Per Arion (Arion) vulgaris (Moquin-Tandon, 1855) e Lehmannia rupicola Lessona & Pollonera 1882, due entità già segnalate come nuove per la Lombardia attraverso immagini fotografiche (Nardi, 2006b), vengono forniti dati più completi (stazioni di raccolta e disegni anatomici), a dimostrazione della correttezza delle assegnazioni. La trattazione di ciascuna delle otto specie comprende osservazioni sulla morfologia e sul tratto genitale, dati di distribuzione e commenti tassonomici. Rare terrestrial molluscs’ species of Kaunas and Kaišiadoriai districts’ reserves. Acta Biol. Univ. Daugavp., 12 (1): 69 – 83. The diversity and distribution peculiarities of rare and other snail species in Kaunas and Kaišiadoriai districts’ were the objective of research work that was carried out in 2007 July and September in different types of 15 reserves. 64 terrestrial molluscs’ species belonging to 22 families were collected during this research. The biggest variety of species was in botanical- zoological reserves. Only one species of Lithuanian Red Data book was found – Vertigo angustior Jeffreys, 1830, but some data about other rare species in Lithuania are described. Other rare terrestrial molluscs’ species were: Acicula polita (Hartmann, 1840), Acanthinula aculeata (Müller, 1774), Vertigo alpestris Alder, 1838, Vertigo genesii (Gredler, 1856), Columella aspera Waldén, 1966, Clausilia cruciata Studer, 1820, Macrogastra latestriata (A. Schmidt, 1857), Ruthenica filograna (Rossmässler, 1836), Isognommostoma isognommostomos (Schröter, 1758). The assessment of conservation status of molluscs’ species and the main conservation measures necessary for improving the status of these species are discussed. Generalization regarding the protection of terrestrial molluscs in Lithuania was made. Key words: Mollusca, Red Data book of Lithuania, rare species, reserves, conservation.
