2017 “ARTIST SERIES #26” CABERNET SAUVIGNON Our Woodward Canyon "Artist Series" began in 1992 with the intent to showcase the finest cabernet sauvignon in Washington State and has since become our flagship wine. The vineyards used in the "Artist Series" are among the oldest and most highly regarded in the state, typical vine age is around 25 years old. The label changes every year with work from a different Pacific Northwest artist. The 2017 vintage was a warm dry vintage with lower than normal yields resulting in concentrated fruit aromas and flavors. 2017 "Old Vines" Cabernet Sauvignon Tech Sheet
2017 “OLD VINES” CABERNET SAUVIGNON The "Old Vines" Cabernet (originally "Dedication Series") has been in production since the bonding of the winery in 1981. Primary sourcing has always come from the oldest blocks of Champoux and Sagemoor Vineyards, some of the oldest cabernet blocks in the state. The 1987 vintage was the first Washington wine to be on Wine Spectator’s Top 10 list. This is a full-bodied cabernet and will typically age well with proper cellar conditions, 15+ years from vintage. Produced and bottled at Woodward Canyon Winery. Its early vineyards are among the oldest plantings of vinifera grapes in the state. Rick began using Sagemoor fruit in his home winemaking days and we continue to use it today. A significant number of 1972 plantings are still producing our "Old Vines" Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from specific rows in Blocks 3 and 9. The four vineyard sites are located in three distinct areas, ranging from the base of Mount St. Helena to the San Pablo Bay in Carneros. 2018 “OLD VINES” CABERNET SAUVIGNON The "Old Vines" Cabernet (originally "Dedication Series") has been in production since the bonding of the winery in 1981. Primary sourcing has always come from the oldest blocks of Champoux and Sagemoor Vineyards, some of the oldest cabernet blocks in the state. The 1987 vintage was the first Washington wine to be on Wine Spectator’s Top 10 list. This is a full-bodied cabernet and will typically age well with proper cellar conditions, 15+ years from vintage. Its early vineyards are among the oldest plantings of vinifera grapes in the state. Rick began using Sagemoor fruit in his home winemaking days and we continue to use it today. A significant number of 1972 plantings are still producing our "Old Vines" Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from specific rows in Blocks 3 and 9. Champoux Vineyard (38%) Founded in 1972 and located in Alderdale Washington within the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, Champoux’s original plantings of the famed "Block One" Cabernet Sauvignon are regarded as being among the oldest and finest in Washington State and are a key component of our “Old WINE DATA Vines”.
