We have just completed our April auction and the YMCA Camp Independence benefi t dinner, and the team is preparing for our May and June sales. While it is always a thrill to report on record auction prices or historic tastings, it was the April 3rd benefi t for YMCA Camp Independence that I will remember as a true high point for Hart Davis Hart. We hosted a dinner and auction which raised over $200,000 and will provide Paul Hart the funds to build a camp for children with Spina Bifi da. The generosity of the donors, the President Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. bidders and Tru restaurant was remarkable. The May auction will take place at Tru over two days – Friday, May 16 at 11am and Saturday, May 17 at 9am. The Friday session features a series of jewel-fi lled consignments that will capture your attention, particularly if you are searching for Bordeaux for your cellar. Throughout the fi rst 500+ lot Friday session, there is an amazing array of the great modern vintages from top cellars, with full cases of fi rst growths and other leading Châteaux. Be sure to review lots 166-261 and 392-436 out of the many on offer. At the Saturday session, we will be offering a truly staggering consignment. Removed from a state of the art, underground, temperature-controlled cellar of a long time friend of Hart Davis Hart who offers a cache with stunning depth. The owner has purchased very carefully over the years and stores the collection in an ideal, cold and humid cellar. In an attempt to make room in the cellar, the owner has chosen to cull this cross-section of his collection, with top examples from all of the major regions. The session will start with over 300 lots of Bordeaux, including the great classic and modern vintages, with a broad selection of full cases. Perhaps most notable is the unrivaled offering of large format bottles. Bidders will fi nd a never before seen selection of these age- worthy mammoth bottles including, double-magnums (3L), jeroboams (5L), imperials (6L), balthazars (12L), nebuchadnezzars (15L) and even melchiors (18L). Though the Bordeaux selections are unrivaled, the collection continues with impressive benchmark wines from around the globe. The wines from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti span lots 892-935, and following the deep selection of Rhônes, the offering continues with over 100 lots from Gaja (lots 1013-1142). There is so much more – including legends from California, Spain and Australia. We are honored to represent this collection – and we have not seen more ideal cellar conditions or a collector with more passion. We hope that you will join us in Chicago on May 16 and 17 for this very special auction!
