Cuadernos de Historia, founded en 1980, accepts for consideration articles based on original research from the various areas of the discipline, for the purpose of publishing advances in the field, encouraging debate on historical methods, and fostering dialogue among local and international scholars who cultivate a variety of historigraphic approaches. It also accepts unpublished documents when these are accompanied by an introductory comment regarding their relevance, and scholarly reviews of books published in the three years prior to the publication of the respective number of the journal. At least two members of the Editorial Committee and one external reader will evaluate the originality and quality of the research contained in the submitted work. Cuadernos de Historia is published twice a year (June and December) by the Departamento de Ciencias Históricas of the Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades of the Universidad de Chile.     Cedomil Goiç Huidobro, Neruda, Arteche: tres y un modo de decir poéticos 2003 - Reservados todos los derechos Permitido el uso sin fines comerciales Cedomil Goiç Huidobro, Neruda, Arteche: tres y un modo de decir poéticos Me propongo abordar tres textos de otros tantos autores elegidos en consonancia con un rasgo común, pero que corresponden a instancias distintas y a modos de decir bien diferenciados, todos relacionados con la imaginación del tiempo en la poesía contemporánea. Más allá o más acá, del tiempo y la distancia que los separa, recojo tres textos que se refieren al viaje. Un texto de Pablo Neruda, el poema III del Libro de las preguntas (1974) uno de los ocho libros póstumos del poeta, cuya última pregunta es "Hay algo más triste en el mundo/ que un tren inmóvil en la lluvia". La pregunta implica la respuesta inequívoca: `No hay nada más triste en el mundo que un tren detenido bajo la lluvia´, esto es lo que realmente el poeta quiere decir. Esto es lo dicho e implicado en la pregunta. Este enunciado colma la significancia, el sentido poético, del segundo texto de que nos vamos a ocupar, el poema "Horas" de Vicente Huidobro, que encabeza el libro Poemas árticos (1918). Este poema, sin mencionar el sobrepujamiento negativo de la circunstancia, la representa como un cuadro -un tableau-, en el cual la visión espacial, que despliega un entorno bien definido, comporta todas las partes señaladas en el verso nerudiano y agrega el espacio y la noche, como rasgos diferenciales, y la percepción que lo traspasa del lento fluir del tiempo.

Universidad Austral de Chile RESUMEN / ABSTRACT Este trabajo estudia los procesos de canonización en la literatura chilena y sus relaciones con las identidades socioculturales, desde la generación romántica de 1852 (ó 1842) hasta la última década del siglo XX, delimitando sus autores, textos y metatextos canónicos. La hipótesis que organiza el trabajo es que la literatura chilena se inició en torno a un canon único, que ha sido reemplazado a través del tiempo por cánones plurales, paralelos y contrapuestos. PALABRAS CLAVE: literatura chilena, canon literario, generación, identidad, metatexto. This paper studies the literary canonization processes in Chilean literature and their relations with social and cultural identities. Its purpose is to establish the boundaries of the texts and metatexts written by Chilean canonical authors, starting with the romantic generation of 1852 (or 1842) and ending up with the works published in the last decade of the XX century. The hypothesis of this essay is that Chilean literature can be said to have its origins focused on a single canon, which is later replaced by a series of plural, parallel and even opposite canons. McSpadden. pp. (4-2) The Mapuche Indians of Chile form an integral part of the Chilean culture and society. Yet, because of racial prejudice, the Mapuches are often ignored or denied their rightful place in the Chilean society. However, the twentieth century Chilean poets are reawakening to the role the Mapuche plays in Chilean life. Assuming that the literature of a country is a written reflection of its culture, the works of several outstanding and famous contemporary Chilean poets have been chosen for investigation to determine how and to what extent the Mapuche culture entered the Chilean contemporary poetry. Influences of the Mapuche Indians have been found in the theme of the poems and in indigenous words included in the poems.     Exploring Jewish Forms of Speaking to God: The Use of Apostrophe in David Rosenmann-Taub’s Cortejo y epinicio Raelene Wyse, M.A. The University of Texas at Austin Abstract: In his first published collection of poetry, Cortejo y epinicio (1949), Chilean author David Rosenmann-Taub (1927) references Jewish culture, prayers and beliefs. This project seeks to foreground the Jewishness in his work as well as the cross-cultural spaces he creates. I argue that Rosenmann-Taub explores Jewish forms of relating to God through the use of apostrophe. In the first section of this essay, I offer a theoretical framework for discussing apostrophe in poetry and prayer. The following sections focus on three poems – “Elegía y Kadisch,” “Gólgota,” and “Schabat” – that depict speakers talking to or about God. Considering the poems alongside the Jewish prayers and conventions to which they refer, I read the poems as rewritten prayers. This comparison highlights the notable presence of Jewish forms in Rosenmann-Taub’s poetry, while also drawing attention to how he reshapes them. Through these modifications, Rosenmann-Taub dramatizes the thresholds between belief and disbelief, divine and earthly, to point to a construction of faith as mode of being that collapses these boundaries. From this, I hope to be able to identify a series of transnational constants in the construction and evolution of modern Latin-American poetry. My investigation aims to prove the following hypothesis: The process of “canonization” of the poetic works of a determined author are dependent on three factors: 1) the aesthetic-ideological direction of its work, 2) the negotiation between this direction and the concept of taste developed in its particular (national) and general—this is, what is already established when the author writes his work—tradition, and 3) how this poetic work inserts itself in the literary fields of its moment, or of posterior moments (this is the case of poets whose works get late visibility). I propose that these three factors are inseparable and operate simultaneously, being the most decisive influence on the “canonization” process of an author or literary work.

    FABIENNE BRADU Los Encuentros de Escritores de Concepción hoy suenan a leyenda y, por su magnitud, parecen inconcebibles. Bajo la acaso extinta vocación del diálogo, fueron convocados en 1958, 1960, 1962, en Chillán y Concepción (la provincia engrandecida, otro signo sorprendente) destacados representantes de las letras nacionales y americanas. De la "casa América" –como diría el poeta Gonzalo Rojas, su visionario gestor– acudieron escritores de la talla de José María Arguedas, Alejo Carpentier, Thiago de Mello, Carlos Fuentes, Augusto Roa Bastos, Claribel Alegría, Mariano Picón-Salas, Ernesto Sábato, Lawrence Ferlinguetti, Allen Ginsberg, por nombrar a algunos. Y de nuestra BRADU FABIENNE casa: Nicanor Parra, Jorge Millas, Braulio Arenas, Pablo Neruda, José Donoso, Volodia Teitelboim, Marta Brunet, Claudio Giaconi, Miguel Arteche, Jorge Edwards, Luis Oyarzún, entre muchos otros. Todos, como diría Ricardo Latcham al referirse a estos Encuentros, sobre el tablado de la cordialidad, la comprensión y la tolerancia, “hasta un extremo que suscita admiración y hace concebir grandes y nobles ilusiones”. El interés y la voluntad puestos al servicio del mejoramiento de nuestra realidad y del incremento de la libertad, eran anhelos expresados y cumplidos en los Encuentros de Escritores, tras los cuales, afirma Fabienne Bradu, “ni la literatura ni el país fueron exactamente los mismos”. Conocedora de la obra de Gonzalo Rojas, con esta publicación Bradu cumple un compromiso pendiente: la difusión y publicación del material producido en dichos encuentros. “¿Cuál fue el origen de estos encuentros?”, se pregunta y responde sin vacilar el poeta Gonzalo Rojas: “un salto. Un salto hasta el descubrimiento de nuestro propio ser”; un salto que entonces cambió nuestra aldea.

Este artículo, inserto en una investigación más amplia sobre canonicidad e identidades en la literatura chilena, analiza los metatextos hegemónicos del período, dando cuenta del intento de clausura del repertorio criollista y ame­ ricanista de la literatura chilena; no obstante los ejes de la polémica siguen plenamente vigentes y tienen una dinámica que se proyecta hacia las promociones posteriores. Palabras clave: metatexto, canonicidad, identidad, generación, vanguardia. On analysing the literary and meta textual corpora of Chilean literature from the early twen­ tieth century, it is observed that the modification of the canonical repertoire in relation to the discourse construction of identity is one of the main elements. This paper, as part of a larger research about canon and identity in Chilean literature, analyses the hegemonic metatexts of the period, giving an account of the intention of closure of the creole and the American repertoire in Chilean literature.
