For many years we have been blessed with a wonderful time of recreation and fellowship at Lakeshore during our annual Retirees’ Retreat. If you have never ben, this is the year to go! You are welcomed to do as much or as little as you want – you are guaranteed to have a good time! Last year we enjoyed a tour of the TN Fresh Water Pearl Museum and pontoon ride on the TN River. It was such a fascinating time that we are going to repeat it – but with a twist. Bob Keast, owner of the Birdsong Marina, and our own Allan Trull are Civil War historians. They will narrate our pontoon boat tour as we explore our unique Tennessee history. PLEASE NOTE: If you want to take this tour please indicate this on your registration. I need to have a head count prior to the retreat. Day One Free Time Activities: Low intensity nature walk TN River Folk life Museum at Pilot Knob Fellowship time (yes, you can even take a nap!) Civil War History Tour, TN River (2 ½ hr pontoon boat tour with guide Mr. Bob Keast, Birdsong Marina and Rev. Allen Trull). PLEASE NOTE ON REGISTRATION FORM IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE THIS TOUR. En quelques furtives minutes, nous avions 1 droit aux 3 Diables Rouges, à Batman contre l'Homme Noir (cet Homme Noir m'a toujours fait pensé au Fantôme Noir que Mickey poursuivait pour l'emprisonner dans le journal du même nom) ainsi qu'à un western de série plus que B mais que nous aimions quand même. Moi je l'aimais bien la Poupée Claire avec ces trois diables rouges dont le chef dès qu'il mettait sa tête dans une mallette, ressortait avec le visage d'un autre sbire. Certes comme dans la séquence du spectateur de Claude Mionnet les films 2 n'étaient pas les meilleurs, mais à la différence de sa grande soeur la Poupée Claire nous donnait la suite de nos aventures chaque semaine. C'est vrai je n'aimais pas beaucoup les Dimanche, mais quant à 17H00 débutait le Prisonnier excellent feuilleton mais un peu cafardeux je me disais que ça y est le week-end était fini et qu'il faudrait mieux que j'aille réviser mes maths, car il y avait interrogation écrite le lendemain Et puis le feuilleton démarrait, Patrick Mac Goohan nous attrapait, et puis bon en me 3 mettant demain à côté de mon copain Christophe, il me filerait bien quelques réponses. Cela dit le Dimanche à la télé il y eut aussi de bons moments. -

JUKEBOX AWARDS 2014 OBJECT LESSONS As I returned home from shopping one morning, I noted a sign posted on a streetlamp. It announced an estate sale. Ordinarily I demur from any opportunity to add one more item to my inventory of possessions. Nonetheless, the location of the event was on my street and only six addresses down. I made my approach and slowly realized it was a two flat I had privately dubbed “the house with the Nazi gate,” due to its wrought iron entry containing a design element, which incorporated the swastika. (Though the quasi-Greek cross design preceded the twentieth century scourge of Nazism, the roots of the ideogram in South and East Asia which became a representation of the inexorable wheel of history vanish into the past.) I opened that gate and entered. Inside I found a handful of people puttering amidst the belongings of a man who I had often seen on the front porch, engaged in the act of combing his dog’s fur. Snatches of overheard conversation revealed that the man had died and the proceeds from the sale of his home and belongings would be donated to an unnamed church. I pawed through a handful of books and found nothing of interest. A selection of records provided no discernible unifying theme, genre or focus. Spotting a reggae 45-RPM single, I had the sudden insight that much of what I was seeing appeared to be souvenirs: a record from Jamaica, a wood carving of Lao-Tse from Taiwan, a dish from here and a figurine from there. -

Jfte Cover ~clure The Mission style bell tower of the main entrance of San Diego State college is typical of the Spanish-Moorish architecture on the 225 acre campus at San Diego, Calif. Founded in 1897, the college now has an enrollment of 3,124 men and 1,481 women. Degrees awarded are AB, BS, BE, and MA. The college has Divisions of Education, Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, Languages and Literature, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. Beta Psi chapter of Sigma Kappa was installed on this campus in February, '50. The chapter really began forty-seven years ago when the Triton Rowing club was formed in 1903. Later the college assumed the athletic activity responsibilities and in 1924 the Triton Rowing club became a Greek letter social sorority known as Tau Zeta Rho. In 1949 the college's local sororities received permission to petition national organizations for membership and Aug. 19, '49 Tau Zeta Rho became a pledge chapter of Sigma Kappa. Other NPC sororities at San Diego are Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega and Alpha Chi Omega.
