Two years on from our hugely successful inaugural event in Brussels it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2009 World Copyright Summit in Washington, DC. This year’s slogan for the Summit – “New Frontiers for Creators in the Marketplace” – illustrates perfectly what we aim to achieve here: remind to the world that creators’ contributions are fundamental for cultural, economic and social development but also that creators – and those who represent them – face several daunting challenges in this new digital economy. It is imperative that we bring to the forefront of political debate the creative industries’ future and where we, creators, fit into this new landscape. For this reason we have gathered, under the CISAC umbrella, all the stakeholders involved one way or another in the creation, production and dissemination of creative works.

משרד ראש הממשלה Prime Minister’s Office אגף התקשורת Communications Department April 19, 2007 Translation Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s Speech at the Ceremony Marking 60 Years Since Feinstein and Barazani Faced the Gallows Honorable Mayor of Jerusalem, my dear friend Uri Lupoliansky, My friend, Harry Hurwitz, Chairman of the Menachem Begin Center, Herzl Makov, Director General of the Begin Heritage Center, The Feinstein and Barazani Families, The Goodwin Family, to who we are so grateful for this special gesture, Families of Olei Hagardom [Those Who Went to the Gallows] and the Underground Fighters who are here, Museum Department Heads and Representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Distinguished Guests, I must say that as I stand here in the courtyard of the Underground Prisoners Museum and hear what has been said here and the songs which were sung here, I cannot but express how profoundly touched I am, since these songs and this heritage have been part of my life from the day I was born in the Shoni Fort near Jabotinsky River, where the heroes of the Irgun, the partners in the struggle of those who went to the gallows and many others who are with us here today, lived and fought. The sound of the explosion which emanated from the death row cell on that night echoes in our national memory. We are a people who remember, and in the tapestry of our lives there are moments which are eternal. Such a moment was that in which Meir Feinstein and Moshe Barazani chose to take their fate into their own hands.

  • How Change Happens
‘In this powerfully argued book, Duncan Green shows how we can make major changes in our unequal and unjust world by concerted action, taking full note of the economic and social mechanisms, including established institutions, that sustain the existing order. If self-confidence is important for the effective agency of deprived communities, so is a reasoned understanding of the difficult barriers that must be faced and overcome. This is a splendid treatise on how to change the actual world— in reality, not just in our dreams.’ Amartya Sen, Thomas W. Lamont University Professor, and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, Harvard University ‘In How Change Happens, Duncan Green points to a simple truth: that positive social change requires power, and hence attention on the part of reformers to politics and the institutions within which power is exercised. It is an indispensable guide for activists and change-makers everywhere.’ Francis Fukuyama, Olivier Nomellini Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), and the Mosbacher Director of FSI’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, Stanford University ‘It was George Orwell who wrote that “The best books… are those that tell you what you know already.” Well in Duncan’s book How Change Happens I have found something better: A book that made me think differently about something I have been doing for my entire life. He has captured so much in these pages, drawing on global and national and local change and examples from past and present. But what makes this book so insightful is that at all times we are able to see the world through Duncan’s watchful eyes: From his time as a backpacker in South America to lobbying the WTO in Seattle and his many years with Oxfam, this is someone who has always been watching and always been reflecting.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
