FIRST AID MEASURES General advice : In the case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical ad- vice immediately. When symptoms persist or in all cases of doubt seek medical advice. If inhaled : If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately. In case of skin contact : In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention immediately. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse. In case of eye contact : In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If easy to do, remove contact lens, if worn. Get medical attention immediately. If swallowed : If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs have person lean forward. Call a physician or poison control center immediately. Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Most important symptoms : Harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin. and effects, both acute and Causes serious eye damage. delayed Toxic if inhaled. Causes severe burns. Causes digestive tract burns. Corrosive to respiratory system. Protection of first-aiders : First Aid responders should pay attention to self-protection, and use the recommended personal protective equipment when the potential for exposure exists. 3 / 19 SAFETY DATA SHEET DOW CORNING(R) Z-1211 METHYLTRICHLOROSILANE Version Revision Date: MSDS Number: Date of last issue: 03/03/2015 1. 3 04/02/2015 926371-00004 Date of first issue: 12/10/2014 Notes to physician : Treat symptomatically and supportively. SECTION 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Suitable extinguishing media : Alcohol-resistant foam Carbon dioxide (CO2) Dry sand Unsuitable extinguishing : Water media Specific hazards during fire : Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fighting fire. Flash back possible over considerable distance. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Exposure to combustion products may be a hazard to health. Applying foam initially will release significant amounts of cor- rosive hydrogen chloride vapors which will be reduced when uniform blanketing is achieved. Contact with water liberates toxic gas. Hazardous combustion prod- : Carbon oxides ucts Silicon oxides Chlorine compounds Formaldehyde Specific extinguishing meth- : Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local cir- ods cumstances and the surrounding environment. Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Suppress (knock down) gases/vapors/mists with a water spray jet. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Remove undamaged containers from fire area if it is safe to do so. Evacuate area. Special protective equipment : In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus. for fire-fighters Use personal protective equipment. SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions, protec- : Remove all sources of ignition. tive equipment and emer- Ventilate the area. gency procedures Use personal protective equipment. Follow safe handling advice and personal protective equip- ment recommendations. Environmental precautions : Discharge into the environment must be avoided. 4 / 19 SAFETY DATA SHEET DOW CORNING(R) Z-1211 METHYLTRICHLOROSILANE Version Revision Date: MSDS Number: Date of last issue: 03/03/2015 1. 3 04/02/2015 926371-00004 Date of first issue: 12/10/2014 Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Prevent spreading over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers). Retain and dispose of contaminated wash water. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained. Methods and materials for : Non-sparking tools should be used. containment and cleaning up Soak up with inert absorbent material. Do not put water directly on spill however, water spray may be used to knock down the corrosive vapor cloud downwind of the spill area. Cover spill with medium expansion (>30:1) AFFF alcohol compatible foam. Do not allow foam to enter container. Applying foam initially will release significant amounts of corrosive hydrogen chloride vapors which will be reduced when uniform foam blanketing is achieved. For large spills, provide diking or other appropriate contain- ment to keep material from spreading. If diked material can be pumped, store recovered material in appropriate container. Clean up remaining materials from spill with suitable absor- bent. Local or national regulations may apply to releases and dis- posal of this material, as well as those materials and items employed in the cleanup of releases. You will need to deter- mine which regulations are applicable. Sections 13 and 15 of this SDS provide information regarding certain local or national requirements. SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Technical measures : Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations. This material can accumulate static charge due to its inherent physical properties and can therefore cause an electrical igni- tion source to vapors. In order to prevent a fire hazard, as bonding and grounding may be insufficient to remove static electricity, it is necessary to provide an inert gas purge before beginning transfer operations. Restrict flow velocity in order to reduce the accumulation of static electricity. Local/Total ventilation : Use with local exhaust ventilation. Use only in an area equipped with explosion proof exhaust ventilation. Advice on safe handling : Do not get on skin or clothing. Do not breathe vapors or spray mist. Do not swallow. Do not get
