Second Announcement and Final Program1 THE 21st CONFERENCE OF THE NUCLEAR SOCIETIES IN May 22-23, 2002—, Israel (Hotel Dan-Carmel)

Theme of the Conference:

NUCLEAR SCIENCES IN ISRAEL - THE NEXT 50 YEARS (The 50th Anniversary of the Israel Atomic Energy Commission)

Participating Organizations: The Israel Nuclear Society The Israel Society of Radiation Protection The Israel Society of Medical Physics The Israel Society of Nuclear Medicine

Dear Colleague, You are cordially invited to participate in the 21st Conference of the Nuclear Societies of Israel, which will take place at the Dan Carmel Hotel in the beautiful city of Haifa overlooking the Haifa Bay and the Bahai Gardens, which we will visit during the conference.

The conference will bring together scientists, medical experts and engineers from universities, hospitals and research centers, covering a wide range of disciplines in the broad field of Nuclear Science. The conference will provide a timely bridge between the past fifty years (on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the IAEC) and the next 50 years in the new millennium.

Scientists from Israel, the US, Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and the IAEA, will present new and challenging ideas in the areas of Nuclear Medicine, Nuclear Physics and Engineering, Accelerators Design and their Application, Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Radiation Therapy, Medical Physics and others. There will be a technical exhibit associated with the conference.

I wish to thank the many participants who provided us with a significant number of high quality invited and contributed papers within a short time span of the deadline. These contributions permitted us to have two most interesting plenary sessions and 15 parallel technical sessions. In addition, a guest program was

1 Last updated on 1-5-2002, 19:09 prepared for your spouses and a field trip following the conference for all to enjoy. A gala dinner hosting distinguished guests and performing Israeli artists will be held on Wednesday evening, May 22nd.

I am looking forward to meeting you in Haifa, and hope you will benefit scientifically and enjoy socially this event.

Dave Saphier Conference Chairman.

Post Conference Field Trip to the Izrael Valley,“The Secrets of the Valley” - Friday, May 24 Tour starts in Kfar Yehoshua at the station for the old "Valley Train", there we will hear how the train served as a social and economic backbone during the early years of the previous century. Our next stop will be Beit She'arim to see the Burial Caves of the Sanhedrin. We will climb the Sheikh Avreikh and Khartieh hills, hear the story of the legendary Alexander Zaid and enjoy a magnificent view of the valley. We will continue to for a magnificent tour, guided by a local resident, in his home and place of birth. We will travel to the picturesque shepherds' village of Tbash, located high on a hill above Nachal - a unique integrated village, home to Arab and Jewish families. We will enjoy an authentic cook-out at the Shepherd's Flute cabin - a cabin built of wood and bamboo, located above Nachal Tzippori. Mustafa Tbash, the Bedouin village chief, will share authentic tales of Arab-Jewish relations in the valley during the period of the "shepherds", the development of Jewish settlement. Our sumptuous meal includes - steak, chicken skewers, homemade kebab, potatoes, rice with lamb, eight kinds of salads, soft drinks and Bedouin tea. This very special event will be accompanied by a guitarist, singing traditional shepherds' songs and Israeli songs.
