CHAPTER III SELECTED HOSPITALS IN AHMEDNAGAR DISTRICT 3.1 Introduction In this chapter an earnest attempt is made by researcher to compile and present an overview of the private hospitals in Ahmednagar district which have been selected for the present study. The selection of hospitals is already been discussed in the earlier chapter where in it has been deliberated that those private hospitals having bed size of more than 100 beds and which have been operating for more than 10 years are selected. The reason for selecting these hospitals basically lies in the premise that these hospitals have been revered as the best private hospitals in the district. The profile of 10 hospitals in terms of their establishment year, vision, mission, organizational structure, departments, facilities is been discussed. 3.2 Pravara Medical Hospital, Loni Pravara Medical Hospital owing its allegiance to Pravara Medical trust hereafter referred as (PMT) is a comprehensive Medical and Health Care center catering to Primary to Tertiary Care. The trust started providing primary and secondary level medical care in 1976 with a reticent hospital of 100 beds. Responding to the need of the area, gradually, the hospital grew into an 800 bed multi-disciplinary, super-specialty medical institute along with the other ancillary facilities. Hospital provides urbane diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. Spacious OPD & diagnostic departments and in patient wards are available with expert medical and paramedical teams. The hospital assists State and Central governments in implementing the National Health Programmes, like Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program & National AIDS control Program. The hospital offers state of art facility to patients some of which are listed and described below Diagnostic and therapeutic facilities: The institute provides sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic facilities like Ultrasonography, Colour Doppler, CT Scan, Digital X-ray, Cardiac Monitors, etc. 56 Central Clinical Laboratory (CCL) which consists of pathology (morbid anatomy, cytology, haematology), biochemistry and microbiology is well equipped and caters to the needs of patients. The Blood Bank of the Hospital is equipped with state of art equipment to perform routine and special investigations including HIV test (Elisa reader), and fractionation of blood to prepare blood components. Causality: Emergency and trauma care is provided with round the clock by experts. These services are augmented with the latest diagnostic facilities like invasive and non-invasive imaging techniques, on the spot transfusion and other resuscitative techniques Advanced Neonatal Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: It takes care of preterm babies, critically ill neonates, infants and children ensuring an excellent salvage rate. Critical Care Unit : A six bedded CCU equipped with latest of the ventilators, multipara monitors, external cardiac pace maker and 24 hrs continuous Holter ECG monitoring facilities, Caters for the needs of critically ill cardiac patients Besides these services the hospital has left no stone unturned to reach out to peasant community which is in allegiance to the vision and mission of the hospital. Some of the distinguishing factors of these hospitals are as follows Cancer Treatment and Research Centre: The Centre offers tele therapy with Theratron 780C and Brachytherapy with Gammamed Remote Afterloading system. The Centre - a boon for the rural cancer patients, also popular even with urban patients from Pune, Mumbai and other metropolis due to its cost effectiveness. Extension Out Patient Department-In order to attend to specific health problems of industrial workers, migratory sugarcane harvest labourers and their families, an extension Out Patient Department (OPD) was established at Pravaranagar, and Primary Health Centers at Pathare and Bhabuleswar. The OPDs are well equipped for first aid emergency management and routine health care. A mobile health team regularly attends to the needs of the migratory harvest labourers, specially the vulnerable groups at their operational areas. 57 Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Care Physiotherapy and rehabilitation care rendered in the hospital since 1980 has been upgraded in 1997 with specialized therapeutic procedures. A well-established Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre with full fledged orthotic and prosthetic laboratories and other modern and advanced equipments, caters to the needs of out patients and in-patients of Pravara Rural Hospital. The Orthotic and Prosthetic workshop has facilities to design and prepare all types of static and dynamic splints, calipers, crutches, collars, braces, prostheses, corrective modified shoes, wheel chairs, tricycles and other locomotive devices for handicapped persons. 3.3. Dr. Vikhe Patil Memorial Hospital, Ahmednagar Situated in serene and beautiful valleys of Viladghat, in area of 25 Acres, it is a 700 bedded multi-specialty hospital that provides 24 x 7 medical services in the vicinity. The Hospital has outpatient department for all specialties – Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Skin, Dentistry, T.B. & Chest, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, Cardiology, Nephrology & Neurosurgery. Important Facilities Provided By Hospital The hospital in addition to above listed facilities provides a wide array of services and could prove panacea to all woes of patients. The hospital has well equipped physiotherapy department. Further the Central Clinical Laboratory where Biochemical, Pathological, Histopathological and Microbiological investigations are carried out is an exemplary diagnostic center. The Radio Diagnosis Department (RDD) has ultra sound facilities, colour Doppler as well as the routine X – Rays & special investigations like CT Scan, MRI, Mammography etc. are also available that provide most accurate diagnostic support for medical assessment of patient. The well equipped Medical & Surgical I.C.U. helps in providing critical care for the seriously ill patients with the help of Ventilator, Central Cardiac Monitors, Pulse Oximeters, Central Oxygen and Suction system. The hospital also has N.I.C.U.- Intensive care unit for new born which helps in decreasing infant mortality. P.I.C.U. is also available. Recently the hospital has added one more feather in its cap through newly established Cardiac Cath-lab unit for Angiography & 58 Angioplasty. The Blood Bank & modern Blood Component Laboratory is functional and. Approved by F.D.A. The hospital runs its own Medical Stores. The hospital boasts of its well equipped MICU, ICCU, SICU, NICU, PICU, RICU, Ventilator, Central Cardiac Monitors, Pulse Oximeters, Central Oxygen and Suction System. 3.4. St Luke Hospital, Shrirampur St. Luke‘s Hospital, Shrirampur, registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950 is a 210 bed, comprehensive health care centre committed to serving the medical needs of Shrirampur taluka with quality health care services, for the last 60 years, irrespective of caste, color or creed at a reasonable cost. St. Luke‘s Hospital is committed to excellence in patient care, Nursing education and community service The Christian Missionaries of Catholic sect started the saint Luke hospital in the memories of ‗Luke‘ in 1952 in the Shrirampur city. The main rationale of this hospital was to offer the medical treatment without any cost to patients. Surprisingly, there was not a single charitable hospital in this area. The doctors and the nurses in this hospital came all the way from Germany. The Financial and medicinal abet was being received from Germany to this hospital. Therefore this hospital is called the ‗German Hospital‘ in this area. The in-patient department was incepted in 1953 with 25 beds which was augmented in 2007, to 200 beds. The hospital has 10 full time doctors, 4 part time doctors, 40 nurses. More than 200 patients on an average receive medical treatment from this hospital every month and about 4000 operations are done in one year in this hospital. The average quantity of patients in outpatient department (OPD) is more than 350. The dedicative approaches of doctors who have replaced their initial counterparts from Germany have carried out the legacy of service to humanity with equal dedication and commitment. 3.5. Sakhar Kamgar Hospital, Shrirampur Sakhar Kamgar Hospital Shrirampur is the most important social activity and welfare measures of Sakhar Kamgar Sabha, Shrirampur (Registered approved Union for Shrirampur Taluka). This hospital is built by worker‘s contribution but it is open to all those who need medical care and treatment. The foundation store of this hospital was laid by the noted labour leader Miss. MANIBEN KARA on 15th August 1962. 59 The hospital was commissioned at the auspicious hand of His Excellency Late Dr. P.V.Cherian on 29th OCTOBER 1965 the then Governor of Maharashtra State. Since then the hospital is functioning well. The basic premise of this hospital was the fact that needs of the sugar workers remained unfulfilled, because of apathy of sugar factories towards their workers forcing many of them to live in poverty and hardships. This perhaps may be one and only hospital which was built up by the workers for the workers. This hospital came into existence through the active instincts and motivations of the workers Leader. Mr. Gangadhar Janardan Ogale executed by a strong determination to erect an update and facilitative dispensary passed by the sugar workers Assembly. This hospital is spread over the 2.5 acres
