Day 1: Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 From Castle Hill in Ipswich, Massachusetts, Phil introduces us to the eleven teams, who are travelling in one of six lobster boats to the starting line at the Eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester, Massachusetts. In order of introduction, they are: A. Brook & Claire, coworkers B. Chad & Stephanie, dating couple C. Katie & Rachel, friends D. Connor & Jonathan, friends E. Nat & Kat, best friends F. Michael & Kevin, father and son G. Nick & Vicki, dating couple H. Ron & Tony, best friends I. Jill & Thomas, dating couple (from the same LA suburb as the production company making this show) J. Gary & Mallory, father and daughter K. Andie & Jenna, mother and daughter At the starting line, Phil provides this season's introductory spiel: “Welcome everyone. [cheering and clapping] In just a few minutes, you will begin the adventure of your lives. You better be ready, because this is going to be one of the most gruelling races ever. At the end of each leg of the race, there is a Pit Stop. Eight of these Pit Stops are elimination points, so as always, you need to race as fast as you can because, if you're last, you'll be eliminated. Everybody understands that, right? [nodding] Now I suggest you listen very carefully because there is a new element in this race that will be a real game-changer. As you know, the first team to check in to the Pit Stop receives a prize. Well, at the end of this first leg, if your team checks in first, you will receive the most important prize that we have ever given away.

American Television, Reality Shows by Nathan G. Tipton Encyclopedia Copyright © 2015, glbtq, Inc. Entry Copyright © 2004, glbtq, inc. Reprinted from http://www.glbtq.com Richard Hatch, winner of In 2000, when self-described "fat naked fag" Richard Hatch emerged as the first- the Survivor reality show season winning contestant on the phenomenally popular network reality television in 2000. show Survivor, he credited his survival success in large part to his homosexuality. Courtesy Richard Hatch. According to Hatch, growing up gay, being part of a minority community--and thus subject to scrutiny by others--inspired him to be both introspective and egocentric. These dual poles of introspection and egocentrism are, in fact, key elements in understanding the important roles gay men and lesbians play within the confines of reality television shows, even as they present interpretive quandaries for hetero- and homosexual viewers alike. In a typical reality television show, particularly one with game-show trappings such as CBS's Survivor and Big Brother, or ABC's The Mole, cast members as well as viewers regard introspection as suspicious behavior. Surely, the viewers surmise, something is being hatched under that quiet façade, and usually this supposition is proved correct. For these shows' gay and lesbian participants, however, the conflation of introspection with cunning and plotting too easily becomes connected to the unfortunate stereotype that gay men and lesbians are inherently crafty, conniving, and untrustworthy. Even in ostensibly less competitive shows such as Bravo's Boy Meets Boy, Fox's Playing It Straight, and even MTV's "docusoap"--Sam Brenton and Reuben Cohen's neologism for a television show that seamlessly combines elements of documentary realism with soap opera-style plotting--The Real World, introspection is often seen as a negative attribute, indicating moodiness, insecurity, or simmering hostility.

Issue No. 84 Fall/Winter 2013 Town of Malta Founded 1802 A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERVISOR Dear Resident: The construction of GlobalFoundries has been transformational for Saratoga County and Malta. In the past 8 years we have seen GlobalFoundries not only build the first semiconductor manufacturing plant, but add to their 229 acre complex a large administrative building and then a Technology Development Center, bringing the total workforce to 2,000. On August 19, the Town Board amended zoning for the Campus to clear the way for even further expansion. See companion article on page 2. This driving force in our economy has brought a “second tier” of businesses - INSIDE THIS ISSUE: high-tech suppliers such as; Tokyo Electron, KLA Tencor, DNSE, Novellus, Applied Malta’s New Businesses Materials, Ovivo Water, Ebara Technologies, Lansing Engineering and Variant Technologies. Round Lake Road Improvement Plans And, there are a number of “third tier” businesses that have emerged. Page 2 contains a list of these businesses. Senior Corner As we jokingly say, Malta “The Center of the Universe” has become the job center for Saratoga County. During this growth period, the Town Board has provided Residents In The News steady leadership to not only support economic development, but to protect our quality of life. We welcome all our new businesses to The Malta Town Family. We welcome your EVENTS: culture of excellence and public service. We encourage you and your employees Malta Community Day to become part of our community in ways best for you, whether as a volunteer for our fire departments, donor at our blood drives or members of our theatre group.
