The Catalan tourism sector has boosted the accessibility of its services, making a reality the principle that a respectful and diverse society should recognise the equality of conditions for people with disabilities. This principle is enshrined in the “Barcelona declaration: the city and people with disabilities” that to date has been signed by 400 European cities. There are many Catalan companies and destinations that have adapted their products and services accordingly. -

The Romeries: Tourist Opportunity and Social Relationships Between Local and Visitors
Cuadernos de Turismo, nº 41, (2018); pp. 737-738 Universidad de Murcia ISSN: 1139-7861 eISSN: 1989-4635 THE ROMERIES: TOURIST OPPORTUNITY AND SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LOCAL AND VISITORS. THE CASE OF LA CERDANYA IN CATALONIA (SPAIN) José Mª Prat Forga Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia. UNED [email protected] Gemma Cànoves Valiente Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona [email protected] Many rural towns, with the aim of reducing their secular demographic, economic, social and cultural marginalization, are committed to highlighting their natural and cultural heritage, assuming that if historical memory is lost, identity is also lost. In this way, the interest in the tourist revaluation of the material and immaterial reli- gious heritage of these territories has grown. Thus, some religious places have ended up becoming a multifunctional and multifaceted element, a meeting point for tourists and the local population. In addition, tourists, more experienced, critical, demanding and individualistic, have modified their motivations and concerns, demanding activities that are increasingly per- sonalized, authentic and that provide them with values and experiences. On the other hand, the attitude of residents toward tourists is also changing. Among the most influential factors in residents’ attitudes toward tourism, there are two fundamental factors: the type and degree of interaction between residents and visitors and the importance of tourism activity in the territory. The theory of social exchange explains that human beings select their relational trans- actions once they have evaluated their benefits and costs. According to this idea, attitudes are affected by the perceptions of the exchange that individuals consider they are perform- ing. -

Determinants of Waste Generation Per Capita in Catalonia (North-Eastern Spain): the Role of Seasonal Population
European Journal of Sustainable Development (2016), 5, 3, 489-504 ISSN: 2239-5938 Doi: 10.14207/ejsd.2016.v5n3p489 Determinants of waste generation per capita in Catalonia (North-eastern Spain): the role of seasonal population Òscar Saladié1 Abstract Seasonal population is not taken into account in waste management policies and regional differences in waste generation per capita are magnified. Here I analyze the differences among the Catalan counties (North-eastern Spain) and I compare the results if seasonal population is added or not to the resident people. Waste generation per capita in tourist areas is overestimated and actually the differences among the counties are lower than those indicated in the official data. Only reliable data will allow determining the reasons of differences in waste generation per capita and stablishing more precise objectives in waste management policies. There is a positive correlation between municipal waste generation per capita and the services sector’s contribution to GDP, a negative correlation with the percentage of population over 64 and no correlation with income per capita. Finally, taking into account territorial factors, the lowest waste generation per capita corresponds to counties with very low population densities located in inland Catalonia. Key words: Municipal waste management, seasonal population, determinants of waste generation per capita, Catalonia 1. Introduction There are broad typologies of waste, all with varying behaviour related to environmental agents, potential evolution over time and impacts on environment and human health. The natural ecosystem’s capacity to receive and incorporate waste is limited, and exceeding it can become a serious environmental problem. Waste can be harmful to human health and animal and plant life and may also affect soil, ground water and air quality, including global warming and inadequate management can compromise the sustainability of our development. -
Carrilet I Greenway (Girona)
Carrilet I Greenway Until the sixties, the Girona-Olot railway was the main transport artery for the rural districts of La Garrotxa, La Selva, and El Gironés. A modest narrow gauge railway (of the type known as "carrilet" in Cataluña) just 54 Kms long, it ran along the banks of the rivers Ter, Bruguent, and Fluvià in the shadow of the menacing La Garrotxa volcanoes. In the not to distant future, this Greenway is to be linked by a track to the Camí de Ferro Greenway de (12 Kms between Ripoll and Sant Joan de les Abadesses). Add on the existing Girona-Costa Brava Greenway between Girona and San Feliú de Guíxols (39 Kms) and we can travel by Greenway from the upper Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, a distance of nearly 135 Km. Observatorio De La Sostenibilidad De Las Comarcas De Gerona
