Maine Running Hall of Fame Results Project 2001 Maine Running Hall of Fame Results Project 2001 Maine Running Hall of Fame September 2020 Introduction Prince Memorial Library began archiving Maine running data in 2009, when it first contributed individual race results to the Maine Running History web site. Efforts intensified in July 2018, when pdf versions of Maine Running were posted to the Digital Maine Repository. The print magazine, first published by Bob Booker in Bangor, Maine, in February 1980, was renamed Maine Running & Outing Magazine in January 1985. Chuck Morris and Steve Giles assumed control of the magazine in May 1987, and publication ceased with Volume 10 Number 12, a double issue dated December 1989/January 1990. Next added to the Digital Maine Repository was Pine Tree Running Journal, which began publication in Westbrook, Maine, in December 1996, under Roland J. Thibault. Publication of Pine Tree Running Journal ceased with Volume 1 Number 6, dated July 1997. The state’s first running magazine, Maine Runner, began publication under Rick Krause of Pittsfield, with Issue No. 1 dated March 14, 1978. Maine Runner appeared on the Digital Maine Repository in 2019. The magazine was renamed Maine Running & Nordic Skiing with Issue No. 14, dated December 13, 1978. The magazine was renumbered when No. 21, dated May 12, 1979, was followed by Vol. 2 No. 5, dated June 2, 1979; the first volume of the magazine thus ran from March 1978 (No. 1) through February 14, 1979 (No. 17), and the second volume began with the March 7, 1979, issue. Nos. 18 through 21 can also be considered Vol. 2 Nos. 1–4. Maine Running & Nordic Skiing continued through Vol. 2 No. 7, dated July 16, 1979, after which the name reverted to Maine Runner. The magazine’s last issue was Vol. 2 No. 12, dated October 29, 1979. In February 2020, the board of the Maine Running Hall of Fame saw a need to archive Maine road race results appearing on the Internet after the demise of the state’s last print running magazine, Pine Tree Running Journal. MRHOF provided funding for the capture and digital publication of results from the period 1997 through 2019, and work on the Maine Results Project commenced. Thomas C. • Indoor Track and Field DIVISION I Women’S
Indoor Track and Field DIVISION I WOMEN’S Highlights Lady Vols show world-class distance dominance: Tennessee dominated Division I women’s indoor track March 13-14 – and dominated the world for more than 10 minutes. The Lady Vols captured the school’s second team title in five years at the Division I Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships and won two events during competition at Texas A&M – including a victory in world-record time in the distance medley relay. Tennessee’s time of 10 minutes, 50.98 seconds, in that event sliced more than three seconds off Villanova’s 21-year-old world mark in the 1,200-/400-/800-/1,600-meter medley, and eight seconds off UCLA’s 2002 meet record. The relay squad was anchored for the second straight year by Sarah Bowman, who figured in both Lady Vols’ event titles and collected a second meet record when she out- leaned Texas Tech’s Sally Kipyego to win the mile run. “Oh, my gosh, look at what we’ve done this weekend,” said Bowman, who also was a member of the 2005 indoor championship team. “I couldn’t ask for a sweeter weekend my senior year. I can’t even put it into words. It’s so amazing. “The heart that this team has, I could actually tear up just talking about them. Just to be out here with these girls who are putting their hearts on the line for the team, and it makes you want to do it all the more. It’s awesome to be part of a team like that.” Tennessee coach J.J.

  • Minor League Baseball and Its Clubs Embodied the Mission of Milb
2019 MiLBTM COMMUNITY REPORT LETTER FROM PAT O’CONNER LETTER FROM PAT Dear Friends and Colleagues, Thank you for your efforts in making 2019 another successful philanthropic year for Minor League Baseball, our 160 teams and MiLB Charities. As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities. This report highlights MiLB Charities’ many programs and initiatives, including the MiLB CommUNITY Initiative presented by Allegiant Air, the Stars & Stripes Caps Program with New Era Cap Company, the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation Father’s Day Initiative, Ed Randall’s Fans For the Cure, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Initiative, and the “Cover Your Bases” Sun Safety Initiative with the American Cancer Society. These are just a few of the ways our teams and partners are working together to make positive and lasting impacts in our MiLB communities.
