I am a retired Chartered Chemist, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Member of the Chartered Quality Institute. For the last 15 years I have been Chair of the Planning Committee of Brickhill Parish Council, an urban parish council in the north of Bedford. 2 I have also been Chair of the Cycling Campaign for North Bedfordshire (CCNB) for the last four years and Vice-Chair for the previous 14 years. 3 CCNB has been promoting cycling and campaigning for cycle infrastructure in the Bedford area since 1992. 4 CCNB does not object to Network Rail's proposed rebuild of the Bromham Road railway bridge to allow the Midland Main Line to be electrified as far as Corby, only to the plans absence of a dual use footway/cycleway across the bridge. 5 Bedford has always been a 'Town of Cyclists'. 5.1 Way back in 1935 a Ministry of Transport census showed that cycles accounted for 80% of vehicular traffic in Bedford, similar to levels found in the Netherlands. 5.2 In 1945 a traffic census found that 'for 10 minutes in one midday period cyclists passed the census takers at the rate of three thousand per hour'. -

PUBLIC NOTICE THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF MILTON KEYNES (WOLVERTON ROAD, NEWPORT PAGNELL) (TEMPORARY CLOSURE) ORDER 2021 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Borough of Milton Keynes has on 8th June 2021 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the above-named Order will be to temporarily prohibit vehicles from entering, waiting or proceeding along Wolverton Road, Newport Pagnell (at the M1 bridge) between Little Linford Lane roundabout and Giffard Park Roundabout. in order to enable Highways England to carry out the following essential works as part of the ‘M1 T3 smart motorway’ project: (1) Installation of temporary protection above the road, (2) Installation of environmental barrier panels to the bridge parapets, (3) Removal of the temporary protection above the road and in the interest of public safety. The affected length of road will be closed between the hours of 9:30am and 4:30pm every day (Monday to Friday) between 14th June 2021 and 9th July 2021. The road will be re-opened to the public during the hours of 4:30pm and 9:30am (Monday – Friday) and fully opened at weekends. Alternative routes (whilst Wolverton Road is closed): Motorists: The alternative route will be via Brickhill Street (V10), Monks Way (H3) and Marsh End Road (Vice Versa). Albion Archaeology Preliminary report on the archaeological investigations at Northampton Road, Brackley, Northamptonshire Photo1: Aerial view of the Northampton Road development area from south Introduction Between June and October 2014 Albion Archaeology undertook open-area excavation in advance of mixed-use development by Albion Land plc on land off Northampton Road, Brackley. An area of c. 3ha was excavated divided into two main parts of unequal size, exposing an unenclosed middle Iron Age settlement. The main part of the settlement extended over c. 1.6ha and was in the northern excavation area, possibly continuing beyond the limit of the development area (see figure at the back of this report). It was characterised by roundhouses, ditched enclosures, post-built structures and an abundance of storage pits. Similar features were found to the south and in the southern excavation area, although these were smaller in number and occurred in a much lower density than in the main settlement area. Roundhouses Evidence for c. 20 roundhouses was identified. They were defined by pennanular gullies with E-facing entrances. The area defined by the gullies ranged from 8–15m in diameter, whilst the gullies themselves were generally shallow and only a few had been redug. The majority of the gullies are assumed to have served a drainage function with no structural slots associated with the outer walls being identified.
