Das Nachbarsdorf Gimmelwald liegt auf halber Höhe und ist ein authentisches und traditionsbewusstes Dorf. Beide Orte sind mit der Luftseilbahn Stechelberg–Mürren erreichbar, von Lauterbrunnen aus mit der Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen–Mürren. Nationale und internationale Bahnverbindungen haben Anschluss ab Interlaken Ost ins Lauterbrunnental, für Autofahrer gibt es in Lauter- brunnen ein Parkhaus und in Stechelberg genügend Parkplätze. Seine Bewohner pflegen engen Kontakt mit Natur und Tier und diese Verbun- denheit zeigt sich im ganzen Dorf mit seinen liebevoll geschmückten Chalets, den Käsespeichern, dem weidenden Vieh in der Umgebung und den blumen- übersäten Bergwiesen. A small mountain road leads down to the authentic mountain village of Gimmelwald at 4472 ft where most of the inhabitants are farmers. Their daily life is determined by a close link to nature and animals, and this is reflected in its carefully decorated houses, scattered huts for storing cheese, grazing cattle and flower meadows.   • Dorfchronik Niederried Bei Interlaken
    "Nidirriet", Niederried, wird kurz vor dem 15. April 1303 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Doch belegen einige wichtige Funde, dass bereits viel früher Menschen auf dem heutigen Gemeindegebiet gelebt haben. Somit beginnt die Chronik mit der Zeit dieser Funde. An- schliessend finden sich diverseste geschichtliche Themen aus Europa, der Eidgenossen- schaft, des Herrschaftsgebietes Bern und der Region, welche die Entstehung der heutigen Gemeindeform mit prägten oder zumindest beeinflussten. In all dies eingebettet sind ältere und neuere Be- und Gegebenheiten aus unserem Dorf. So ist es möglich, je nach Lust und Laune unser Gemeindegebiet zusammen mit seinen Einwohnern im Umfeld der Frühgeschichte, dann das Dorf Nidirriet in der Zeit seiner erst- maligen Benennung "56 Jahre vor 1303" (!), weiter die Bäuert Underried und später Nie- derried auf dem langen Weg hin zur Gegenwart kennenzulernen. ~ 4300 bis 1800 v. Chr. "Neolithikum" oder "die Jungsteinzeit" 1913 wurde beim Bahnbau westlich vom Weiler Ursisbalm in Niederried ein Hocker- grab aus dem Neolithikum gefunden. (Lage 637010 / 173675 / 584; unter dem nördli- chen der zwei Felsvorsprünge.) Das Grab aus 'Goldswilplatten' mit 1 m Länge und 0.4 m Breite enthielt ein Skelett einer 20 bis 25-jährigen Frau, den Kopf nach SW ge- richtet. 1924 wurde der Schädel von Prof. O. Schlaginhaufen als der niedrigsten bis dahin bekannten Variante der schweizeri- schen Neolithikerkapazität zugeordnet (kleinwüchsig, vergleichbar Pygmäen) und ist demzufolge um die 6'000 Jahre alt. Ausserhalb des Grabes im Nordosten la- gen wirr durcheinander Knochenüberreste zweier 7- bis 14-jähriger Kinder und eine Platte mit Asche. Rundwanderung Gimmelwald – Gimmelwalder Allmi – Gimmelwald Jahreszeit: begehbar Anfang Mai bis Ende Oktober Dauer: ca. 1h, Höhenmeter: 200m 200m Kategorie: einfach Hinweis: ausgeschildert mit weissen Schildern «Allmiweg» Von der Station Gimmelwald gehen Sie ins Dorf und biegen bei der Pension Gimmelwald rechts ab. Auf einem Fussweg und über Treppen kommen Sie zum Mittaghorn, wo Sie rechts abbiegen und dem Strassenverlauf an den obersten Häusern des Dorfes vorbei folgen. Etwa 50m nach einer Bachüberquerung, biegen Sie links ab auf einen kleinen Pfad, der über die Wiese und durch den Wald ansteigt. Nach mehreren Kehren queren Sie den kleinen Bach über eine kleine Brücke und erreichen auf einem Forstweg die Gimmelwalder Allmi. Von hier geniessen Sie einen herrlichen Blick hinunter auf Gimmelwald sowie auf die Bergkette von Schwarzmönch, Jungfrau, Ebnefluh, Mittaghorn und Grosshorn. Südlich gegenüber liegt die Busenalp, darüber der Tschingelgrat und weiter hinten das Gspaltenhorn. Folgen Sie der Strasse, welche nun gleichmässig mit leichtem Gefälle zurück ins Dorf führt. Oder Sie nehmen beim zweiten Bänkli den kürzeren markierten Bergweg, der im Zickzack durch die Bergwiesen hinunterführt.     SWITZERLAND ITINERARY 8 DAYS, 8 NIGHTS — DAY 1 — Welcome to Switzerland! We suggest arriving in Zurich prior to this day so you have time to walk the timeless streets of old town Zurich. First thing in the morning we will meet for an orientation breakfast and depart from Zurich by vehicle to the Alpstein mountain range of northeast Switzerland. We will check into our hotel in the village of Appenzell and set off immediately on our first adventure. We will embark on a dreamlike hike taking in a stunning mountain, Saxer Lucke, before continuing on to Falensee Lake. We’ll enjoy a hearty lake side lunch at a local mountain hut. We would suggest trying a local favorite: A steaming plate of rosti smothered in Appenzeller cheese. We’ll then return to the hotel to rest or do some sightseeing at one of the nearby castles. — DAY 2 — After breakfast, we will embark on a hike that epitomizes the incredible vistas of the Swiss Alps. It starts with a cableway ride to some historic cultural stops. We’ll pass through the Wildkirchli Museum caves and stop at the must-see cliff-side Aescher restaurant. We will spend the rest of the day hiking across magnificent terrain with views spanning to three countries filled with wildflowers, lakes, and massifs. You will pass mountain farms that make the famous Appenzell cheeses from their herds of cows freely grazing on the slopes.
